  • A good old-fashioned 2-for-1 video, with a reformatted show & the rollout of a new station logo. All content is the property of WLS-TV, Incorporated & Disney. Message for removal.
After 10 seasons, ABC 7 Chicago's 'Windy City Live' transitioned from a daily talk show to a weekly program on September 10th, 2021, highlighting what's happening in Chicagoland ahead of each weekend. Airing Fridays at 11:30am, 'Windy City Weekend' hosts Ryan Chiaverini & Val Warner have shifted 90 minutes earlier, replacing the 2nd half hour of the station's 11am newscast, while featuring much of what already appeared in the time slot. Roz Varon's 'Weekender' report & Tracy Butler's full forecast remain, while WCL's (shortened) host chat segment & film critic Richard Roeper's 'Spend or Save' feature join from the former 1pm show. Also appearing at the top are news anchors Tanja Babich & Ravi Baichwal (filling in for Terrell Brown), who will toss to a preview of 'Weekend' at the close of their newscast.
Some of you may also notice that WLS is beginning to roll out their updated logo, in accordance with ABC's rebranding guidelines. It appears in the 'Windy City Weekend' package, plus a few promos that I left in this montage. The ABC dot has shrunk, and all glossy effects have been stripped from the iconic Circle 7, with the new proportions lining up with New York sister station, WABC-TV.

Thankfully the show has evolved after the first few months to be almost closer to the daily version.
The weather and weekender segment was taken out, allowing a bit more time to Ryan & Val's host chat and guests were welcomed back to the studio in the last year when social distancing was lifted.
The 7am streaming show uses the Windy City LIVE/Weekend studio for the 7:30am portion and they have had more guest segments lately, including a pickleball demonstration in the studio a few weeks ago.
All the Windy City LIVE logos are still up in the studio,so i think it's WLS-TV's way to keep the brand alive.
The show still had good ratings and made the station lots of money in advertising, but unfortunately the ABC corporate bosses in NY forced Channel 7 to make room for the dreaded Tamron Hall,so they had to end the daily show, but kept it going on a weekly basis at least.
Val Warner recently got expanded duties as co-anchor of the 6am news and since early 2022,she co-anchors the 7am streaming show.
Ryan Chiaverini is back to sports reporting and anchoring and he probably is in the running to replace the recently retired Jim Rose.

I’d rather have Tamron Hall on a 1pm since she is a Chicago staple and have them go back to 9am. LIVE with Kelly and Mark is boring anyway. Val and Ryan are the Kelly and Mark of Chicago (much better ones at that), so LIVE should be optional on WLS. Maybe air it overnight

The edits were terrible. But it was good to see they're still alive, albeit in a fraction of what they were. Sad. The replacement show that took their time slot is a big let down.

I don't work for the station, so it's not my material to post in full. If you don't like it, turn on ABC7 and watch it when it's on.
