- THIS VIDEO IS OUTDATED- WATCH THE NEW ONE HERE- • Hogwarts Legacy - Ray ...
If you saw my last comparison you'll see a lot of people saying it's too shiny and everything looks wet. That was from a config file tweak that make everything overly reflective. In this video I've toned it down that so the game has a more subtle set of reflections. No more stone floors that look covered in water! Do you think it looks better or do you like the more shiny reflections? Or maybe even prefer ray tracing off?
Stick around a while, subscribe if you enjoyed!
Hogwarts Legacy has an interesting approach to ray tracing. Without some kind of config file tweak, it doesn't look so great. You can see examples here for vanilla ray tracing : • Hogwarts Legacy - Ray ...
You can also tweak it to make everything look VERY reflective like you can see here : • Hogwarts Legacy - Ray...
I think the settings I'm using in this video looks the best. If you want to try it, just paste these settings at the end of your Engine.ini located - "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor"
[SystemSettings]
r.RayTracing.Reflections.ScreenPercentage=100
r.RayTracing.Reflections.SamplesPerPixel=1
r.RayTracing.Reflections.MaxRoughness=0.3
r.RayTracing.AmbientOcclusion.Intensity=1

This is actually a massive improvement over the games default RT reflections. I hated how it made everything look wet or super glossy. I really like these settings you have here. Gonna try them out myself.
It’s incredible that this game looks as good as it does regardless of whether RTX is on or not. And to think that the last game the devs behind hogwarts legacy worked on was Cars 3. I hope to god they’re working on a Quidditch World Cup reboot
Well the Quidditch DLC claims are dead. The dev team came out to say it isn't happening.
@@Skylancer727 Tbh that’s totally fine in my opinion, I’d rather them either develop an entire game centered around quidditch or not do it at all at this point - so sick of poorly crafted DLC money grabs :(
It was just announced for pre order
It’s cool. But i think it sometimes looks wrong - take the stained glass behind the trophy at the start.
I don’t know how many of you have seen that old style medieval stained glass but it doesn’t really reflect that brilliantly.
I love RT but I still see it as being in its infancy.
I don't know if you know this, but it's a magical castle in a magical world. If they want shiny glass, I'm sure they have something to make shit glass.
@@Ragingpanda-px9yu they also have very dirty sinks. I guess the magic is the cause of that.
In a discussion about ray tracing and it’s capabilities you are entirely missing the point you dullard.
same with the mirror. Hogwarts is more likely to have ancient mirrors that are oxidized and diry as hell, not perfectly polished ones
@@jacob476 they got House-elves scrubbing and polishing the castle 24/7 and they do it like their life depends on it, I think the mirrors will be perfectly polished
Thats not a fault of raytracing, its them setting that model to have a roughness factor that doesn't make it realistic with how shiny it is. Raytracing just does what its supposed to. But if surfaces are reflective that shouldn't be then the material used on that surface was set incorrectly.
I'll be playing it with RT reflections turned off. I would have like to have them on for water and mirrors etc, but the glassy/wet floors in the castle just ruins everything, so I guess I'll take some better performance, but leave RT for shadows and ambient occlusion on though.
I'm glad there is an option to toggle what you want, and it's not just some global setting.
it just looks like someone spilled his Tea xD
The soundtrack tho 😮💨
It's crazy how much better the game looks with RT. I wish my 3080 could handle it, but sadly it can't :(
it's funny to think 3080 couldn't do RT😂
@@BenCH417I also have a 3080 and it really doesn't work with ray tracing in this game so far with no fps drops when ray tracing is enabled. The developers should optimize that in my opinion.
@@bloodtiger2520 Ya,it should be fix soon after,i also have a 3080,i would say it can do RT but wasn't a playable experience even on other game,Just really funny.
dude im playing it wd my 3070 rtx on
my 3060ti can handle it, just activate DLSS, parameters on high and you are good to go
Love it. If i ever had the chance to play the game with rtx on without fps drop, i would do it
It's drops suddenly from 60+ fps to 20 fps for no reason in RTX mode. worst coding.
@@Muralidharan001 what rtx setting are you using, and what card do you use? I hope you're not using a potato RTX 2060 or a 2070 expecting the game to run butterly smooth with RT ultra reflections and lightning
@@durchfaII No, I run on RTX 4070 Ti, 1080p ultra. I think developers are not good at RT.
I think rt reflections look fine even I'd the game still looks good without them. Shadows though were awful and ruined a lot of stuff including hair so I turned those off. RT still has a way to go with the performance hit being so high for every game.
I still think that RTX doesn't look better. Reflections are exaggerated
The map room just looks objectively better. And the gold trim and watery surface flooring looks to have more depth. Otherwise I just think the performance hit is too steep in this game to use it.
RTX makes the game look insanely better. Having better reflections makes the game look have more depth. It’s the future of gaming.
@@asaneouji15 Fr me the reflections never looked realistic, that's the thing. It was always "too much" in every game.
where, exactly?
It's a 1000 year old school in the woods in the 1890's...why would everything look like polished marble?
The OFF still looks more accurate
Then lower the max roughness scale in the ini file. You still need RT for mirrors and shit
Because they can keep it polished with magic? ;-)
I turn on RT Shadows on low so face shadows in cut scenes are not distracting and jumping all over the place
i came to the conclusion that this games rtx is just not that good. sadly. shadows are completely bugged i turned them of. i play with maxroughness 0.3 like in this video but its still "broken" for some places... the AO is ok but you still have to set it to 1 in the engine.ini... its like they didnt really care.....
This game needs ray reconstruction.
Ah this moment I just better with reshade instead using ray tracing
ok but is it worth the performance hit? i personally have it off and havnt missed it much
I don’t think it is in this game, since it only changed shadows and reflections. Even then reflections on lakes and rivers don’t seem to change at all. Would love to see more games make use of global illumination!
at 1:26 with rt reflections on my reflections seemed to be bugged? when i walk up closer and closer to the window the reflections seem to pop in. I have to be standing right next to the window for the floor directly under the window to be reflective like this. anyone having the same issue? this is with the most recent update aswell
RTAO is completely fucked in this game. It looks way better with it off and AO at Ultra. Even though I have a 4080 I still won't turn that on. I use RT Reflections and Shadows though, those look great, especially with the tweaks.
It's still blur for me
It wasnt polished granite as the floors though so they shouldnt be reflective?
No they shouldn't really, RTX in this game is not so good. It's good for people who don't know how really works lighting. I disable it and not because of the fps drop (I have a 3090ti so not a problem) but because it's bad. It's not beautiful, you have this sense of fake when you play with the RayTracing, for me the game is so much better without. The Water and Mirror are better with it on but it's not enough to have it on when everything else looks fake. It's how I saw that personaly.
I think its over done it looks amazing but they made too many polished floors. this is a school with hundreds of students the floors would not be polished anywhere but special places.
Non RTX version looks better LOL
at 30fps they’re both a no for me
RT often looks worse, and unrealistic. Usually it's the same.
Fixed what?
Its just On/off?
The native ray tracing reflections are very shimmery and low res, this .ini mods ups the resolution and clarity.
MOD activated, hogwart's flooded
with this "mod" youre flooding it less then default tho
fps on, fps off
çok abartı gerçeklikte bu kadar zemin yansımaz
It's not a bug that the reflection look blurry it is realistic. In real life surfaces have roughness and rough surface don't have mirror-like reflections. Please stop making youtube videos of fake info
more like they have blurry reflections so that consoles have a chance in hell of playing it at 30 frames per second haha.
@@eightleafgaming No just read what roughness on materials is
@@wekkimeif7720 i guess I don't see your point, this is a fun tweak and makes reflections sharper, thought i'd compare them. use vanilla ray tracing if you like it more.
@@eightleafgaming The blurred one is the more realistic as it take into account surface roughness:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_roughness
@@wekkimeif7720 Yeah that all makes sense, but why do mirrors look sharp with the tweak but blurry without? why would a mirror produce a blurry reflection?
I think ray tracing is just not implemented so well in this game.
RTX is nearly useless and is broken unless you have 16gb of VRam or more
RTX is a Joke
