HIKING the MOUNTAINS of ALBANIA (+ Albanian History)

MOUNT KRUJË, ALBANIA: I followed a steep mountain trail to Krujë Mountain - delving into some Albanian history on route. Join me on a hiking adventure on the trails of Albania.

Looking up at the mountains from Krujë made the trek look impossible - way too steep and much higher than I thought, but I wasn't going to give up easily. After finding the trailhead to the Krujë Mountain hike on a small road heading out of town, I began my hike into the mountains at first passing through a residential area until the trail opened up into beautiful rocky countryside.
On the journey up I talk about the important events that have shaped Albanian history, including the Illyrian tribes' rule over the land and the Roman Empire's influence following that. The area has seen many rulers and so it's not surprising that it has also suffered the effects of wars and battles over centuries of turmoil and various rulers jostling for position. These include the Byzantine Empire and a long period of Ottoman rule.
There isn't much information online about hiking Mount Krujë hence why I decided to keep the camera rolling throughout the trek. Whilst the trail was quiet the views and scenery from the stony pathway were something very special - definitely a half day adventure if you're in Krujë.

I am wowed yet again! Your Albania vlogs have been my favorite so far. You're very good at conveying the history and I appreciate that; it's so interesting. The Albanian people have been through a lot; I'm glad more people are traveling there and bringing in some business. It still amazes me how HUGE it is! The mountains are so majestic and unlike any others I've ever seen. I look forward to your Tirana videos. As I've mentioned previously, I've been there, but just for three nights. It's a really cool city and I'd like to visit again someday. Skanderbeg Square blew my mind. Thanks again!
