Having a random memory part in a seemingly normal level is just annoying, but a full memory level i think is fine since you know what youre getting into and with a full level worth of memory it can be actually hard to remember wtf to do.
I couldn't agree more. I absolutely hate it when I'm going through a normal level, and then randomly I get jumpscared by one single actually convincing fake. If there were convincing fakes spread out through the entire level I would've been a lot more onboard with stuff like that. I also just hate it when memory is used as an excuse to make the overall gameplay easier (especially there is a memory part in a non-memory level). You only need to worry about memory like once, after you take the time to learn it, memory becomes no problem. For example, Endurance is extreme demon when it felt way more like an insane demon imo, and Home is an insane demon when it felt more like a medium or even an easy demon.
I feel like the most consistent element of the series- Viprin's ball mazes- is also the most annoying. also what happened to the mic at the end did it explode tf
Hypersonic imo is by far the best early 2.1 demon, at least in terms of gameplay, it's very fun and balanced pretty well. Most of the parts look pretty good, Dudex, Serponge, Rustam, Terron and first half of Etzer stand out to me in particular. Yes, some of the parts use that distinct early 2.1 style, but it's nowhere as bad as early 2.0, and it was generally executed well enough to look good compared to most levels that came before it. It wouldn't stand much of a chance now, but that isn't a good comparison to make to a level that came out over 6 years ago at this point.

i always saw hypersonic as just an early 2.1 collab, not even a sonic level. it was completely built in less than a month, and it feels more like geostorm just showcasing 2.1 assets than trying to make a themed level. it happens pretty much every update, would not be surprised if 2.2's first month of features is single-layer asset block designs (excluding the prebuilds) woke m&m's are back btw

After beating the 3, I actually found hypersonic to be by far the most fun of the 3, but I do agree its pretty ugly lol. I do agree that ultra is probably the best looking, especially if you consider the timeframe, however the gp is pretty atrocious in almost every part, especially near the end with jeyzors part being prone to frequently bug out and kill you for no reason, and the tela-portals on sumsars part making the transition into the gravity changes infinitely worse. I do respect all your opinions tho, and want to say this video is really well made :)
I will contend that Viprin's part in Supersonic AFTER the god forsaken memory ball is really fun (at least, I'm pretty sure it's still Viprin's); just the way the cube moves across the screen and the timings themselves is really satisfying, and the ending ship is a really fun stress test. There's a good timeline where Viprin's gameplay followed that route and not ball maze spam, and I will forever be infuriated that timeline isn't this timeline.
I'm learning supersonic for my new hardest after 5 years of not playing the game, at first the ball part was horrible but once you are 95% consistent with it, it becomes one of my favorite parts because of how funky it looks when playing in the middle of two hard parts, it's like a built up to the end of the level

The issue wasn’t the style, I mean it’s a different time period and the beginning of an update, but it was such a slow level. Then there’s subsonic which got the speed right, but was inconsistent in quality. Ultrasonic is easily the best in the series.

Supersonic's dual part is also a buggy mess, especially the ball part, i never managed to get consistant at it, passed it through pure luck
