Crazy. Those pads are so sick. Every time I buy new pads I buy the vintage/retro style pads. I just love the way the old brown and tan pads looked back then. It's just nice they can make a modern pad have that cool classic look. Those pads hopefully are in the hall of fame. Or I hope someone in his family has em. I would never sell em if I was in his family. He was great.

Along with Glenn Hall, the last of the all-time maskless goalies. A great gentleman, and a hockey legend!

Oh man, if only the same thing would happen to me... after 10 years of playing goal was having too much trouble with contact lenses so became a defenseman... sold my goalie equipment in th 80's... somewhere out there someone's got my pads with my name written on the front, hope he decides to look me up one day...

Funny thing is...Johnny Bower's pads never had the knee roll "cheater". He and "Gump Worsley were two of the last NHL-ers to use that design. The pads in the video have the "cheater" roll on the sides of the knee, which were/are more common with the leather pads at the time and the more modern designs.

I remember hearing Bower was loved in Quebec. Don't hear that about an English guy too often.

Former Bruin Derek Sanderson told a great story of Johnny, during Dereks first season with the B's he was tripped and was sliding head first into the goal post, and in those days the posts did not move when you hit them, Bower stuck out his pad and saved Dereks life....Derek said that Johnny Bower was loved by everyone that knew him! truly one of the greats!!

Ballard was the kind of guy who would eat a piece of steak throwing it out because he didn't like it instead of giving it to someone in need. He rather throw good stuff away because it's "his money" than see someone else benefit. Technically, he's right that the equipment is his property but man, that's some miserly stuff happening.
