#Live8
Live 8 was a string of benefit concerts that took place on 2 July 2005, in the G8 states and in South Africa.
There were ten concerts held on 2 July 2005, most of them simultaneously. The first to begin was held at the Makuhari Messe in Japan, with Rize being the first of all the Live 8 performers. During the opening of the Philadelphia concert outside the city's Museum of Art, actor Will Smith led the combined audiences of London, Philadelphia, Berlin, Rome, Paris and Barrie in a synchronised finger snap, meant to represent the death of a child every three seconds in Africa.
Bob Geldof hosted the event at Hyde Park in London, England where he also performed "I Don't Like Mondays". Special guests appeared throughout the concerts. Then-Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates made speeches at the London show, while former South African President Nelson Mandela addressed the crowd in the Johannesburg venue. Guest presenters, ranging from sports stars to comedians, also introduced acts.
Included in the all-star line-up were Pink Floyd, reunited with former frontman Roger Waters for the first time in over 24 years. With the death of keyboardist Richard Wright in 2008, Live 8 was the final time the band's "classic" lineup performed together. The band dedicated "Wish You Were Here" to their absent former member Syd Barrett, who later died in 2006.

Setlist:
00:00 - Speak To Me
00:58 - Breathe (In The Air)
03:50 - Breathe (Reprise)
04:53 - Money
11:39 - Wish You Were Here
16:16 - Comfortably Numb
---------------
David Gilmour second solo on comfortably numb can make a grown man cry. The solo is not something you hear, its something you feel.
i love on the second solo how they all just sync up and get lost in it. Roger starts to hit the bass harder nick closes his eyes gilmour starts swaying rick is giving it some beethoven its great
Well said
Nick taking off his headphones just at the moment of the solo is the most wholesome moment as well
😂😂😂
Hear, hear! Also, the only moment in the concert, during that solo, when they all became one whole thing-Pink Floyd again.
Love the way Nick Mason gets rid of his headphones in Comfortably Numb! He knew this would be the last time they all played together!
18:24 It was so emotive.
I thought he might have been wearing them because some of the parts were on tape (the strings) and the song is started with a click track for sync reasons and then he drops them later - thought this because he doesn't wear them in any of the other tracks so why this one etc.
Gran músico, siempre en su papel del máximo nivel, sin excesos, sin adornos innecesarios. ¡Fiel!
@@relativenormality Because he probably knew it would be his last time in this situation !!! PURE
It’s nicely said but my guess is he wants to hear more from the stage and ‘join the band’ more in that way. Headphone drumming makes it easier but you get a bit closed off.
Best 25 minutes in music history

It's not difficult to see how happy and emotional Roger was playing with these 3 guys at this show. This is Pink Floyd!
Regretting the past... but brilliant !
I do not agree with you at all. Waters was reduced to that of a sideman. His input was minimal, and it was obvious to him, that the band had passed him by, and that Gilmore was the creative talent that would be remembered. Goes a way to explain his rancour in later years.
@@timtwotone3561 considering how many songs Roger wrote its pretty silly to say David was the creative force in the band. he was lazy as fuck when it goes to songwriting. but yeah i agree David was the one who stole the night at Live 8.
Se Roger non chiamava David fuggiva. L’uomo più rancoroso del mondo
@@jangondas8097 Gilmore’s exceptional playing is what everyone was waiting for on numb. Anyone that knows anything about playing the guitar was watching. Not easy to play the middle or the end solo but he killed it! NIce❤
These guys, in exactly this Line Up, are the best band in the world. Period.
Without a doubt they are the best. Led Zeppelin is a nails length below them!
best band in the world its 4 u
This is the last performance of the band that I would pay ANYTHING to have seen in earlier parts of my life..........Damn my sheltered religious upbringing!!!

Yes. Yes. Yes.
Gilmour is just the most absolutely consistent person in Rock and Roll history. He never sounds off and never hits a wrong note.
You know it
and he is very humble
@@davechapman7735 I read a few years back when he was doing the Pompeii gig (not the 70s one) he was out walking in Italy and came across a street musician that was making wonderful music with a table full of tumblers, he asked him if he would like to play with him later that evening and said "I'll pay you of course" , imagine that was Roger? He would probably want payment off the guy.
@@snelgrave101 Yes I did see that clip of David a while back ,the guy with the glasses of water. and your suggestion, it would not surprise me
@@snelgrave101 Roger (while he wrote most of these lyrics) put me off on this show, where he had a Cheshire Cat smile, and throwing his head all over the place. Luckily it didn't last the whole 25 mins. David on the other hand is a humble master musician, as always.

Outstanding and without words!
Gilmour was absolutely incredible in this performance. GOAT level stuff.
they were a group david gilmour would be nothing without waters and vice versa
Ffs. Didn't the person directing the cameras realise that Rick Wright was actually part of the group? There were more shots of the audience than Rick. He was a massive part of the group's history and made a significant contribution to Pink Floyd over the years. Why treat him like the invisible man? Disgraceful !!!
You're right, the cameraman is ridiculous
The whole show was about Roger Waters. If you want Rick watch Delicate Sound of Thunder or PULSE
Tama,, kayo mga bro. Walang close-up...😸😸😸
😢
Maybe Roger paid the director...
This was a very important day in Pink Floyd history. This show is considered the last real concert the band had very played, and they managed to end it with the “fab 4” together again. The band ended performing as David, Roger, Nick and Rick; like they should. All the drama set aside to end the band on a high note. I love Roger Waters and Pink Floyd without Roger, but seeing them come together meant a lot to me.
That camera zoom on the power plant then back to the concert is fucking AWESOME

22:12 we FINALLY get a glimpse of one of the greatest rock keyboardists EVER! Sad they barely even showed Richard Wright ❤
I’m NOT joking! Crazy he is not even shown on stage wide angle until 9 minute mark. 😡
Totally underrated on Pompeii as well, any true Floyd fans know he was the unsung hero though, the glue that held them together.
Rick Wright is my favorite member, but he is kinda like the George Harrison of Pink Floyd, as he doesn't sing that much, but he plays his keyboards in many songs. My reason for him being my favorite is just the way he plays his keyboards in many songs, he's like a literal genius.
@@tto0508 and the songs he wrote are genius in their own right. Remember a Day is one of my favorite pink floyd songs

This is truly amazing. Listen to Roger on bass. The fact that they go into Breathe reprise after Breathe is unconventional and they must have come to an agreement.
We need this on vinyl.
So memorable! Their music will live on through the ages.
I remember watching this live on TV I was 16 years old. Glad that we have it here in 4K to be able to enjoy it forever!
I love when nick pulls off his ear defenders to properly enjoy David's solo
Waters calling David over for a hug and bow at the end was like pulling blood from a stone
It is understandably hard to forgive someone when they try and destroy you for just wanting to carry on the Band after you leave. It was hugely stressful for David.
It was pretty bad. Like an ex husband and wife taking a picture at their kid's graduation.
Man David Gilmour sounds absolutely phenomenal here! What an incredible talent.
C'è talento:sono i Pink Floyd loro sono la misica
concerts are great...live music is chilling and fantastic, but in the end, it's not a question of who argued with who,,,. Pink Floyd's music will outlive ANY live concert and will be forever the measure of excellence in music
There was night, a magic night when stars aligned ... and we had Pink Floyd.
WE NEED ANOTHER CONCERT LIKE THIS. One last reunion.
richard sadly passed away in 2008 so a full reunion isn’t possible anymore :/
@@vladrosu2698 I know, what I meant was Roger, David, and Nick, but last time I saw Nick he didn't look healthy so I agree.
@@raphael_2d878 Well he's old. He's touring with his own band Saucerful of Secrets. I doubt Rog and David are going to ever come to terms with each other though.
@@thebreakfastmenu After recent comments from Polly, David, and Roger - even less so.
David and Nick have in the past done the occasional guest spot on Rogers tours of The Wall - eg 2011 London O2. So maybe not burying the axe (in each other) but at least putting it down long enough to pick up a guitar.
I would take a miracle....love the idea, though.
Back in the day I used to splice together comfortably numb from Roger's solo stuff and Floyd's >87 version to hear what it would sound like if they were still together. As you can imagine, this performance was dream come true. With Rick gone, this was the last hurrah 🧱🐖🐑
Live 8 didn't have the importance of Live Aid, but this reunion was the greatest of them all.
Thank you for the added captions. The deaf community appreciates it. It's hard finding music videos with caption support.
Out of curiosity how do you listen to music? Do you hear some of the frequencies still? I imagine you would need a good subwoofer to take full advantage.
@@StickHits good speakers that can handle bass and wood floors that vibrates the best.
Comfortably numb is my all-time favorite Pink Floyd song and I relate directly to it because it's as a child that's exactly how I felt. Like I was a tiny little thing crawling over my body exploring my hands and my fingers and not being able to feel anything. I don't know how else to describe it
Was für atemberaubende 24 Minuten...
Thank you for your 4K efforts. Being the best band of all time, Pink Floyd fans deserve this. Watching them play with Roger after 25 years gives me goosebumps. Cheers.
Anyone who is fully ignorant of this band's history does not understand just how emotionally difficult it is to watch the body language of these 4 members. I don't think this performance would've went as perfect as it did if it wasn't for the tension present between them on that stage and that's the reason Floyd fans created a river of tears that evening.
exactly.. it sucks to see roger not walk off the stage with the rest of the band :/
Absolutely. And Rick passed away only three years later. 😢
They sue each other like small spoiled kids
Yes. The same wanka since the biginning
verissimo! Io ho pianto come un bambino, grazie.
Great nostalgic fee😮ling at this age of mine at 78 years. Excellent work done.
What I really love about this performance is that it is just the 4 of them as opposed to the large number of people on stage during the concerts in support of the Division Bell
there's jon carin and tim renwick playing too

@@victortitan2905and the backup vocalist. And whoever played bass on Wish You Were Here.
@@victortitan2905Floyd has always had backup musicians with them in live shows lol.
@@rafmin73apparently Guy Prat was originally going to play bass instead of Roger (and did during rehearsals) but he was needed for a different gig that night. It ended up being a blessing in disguise IMHO because it meant that Roger actually was going to play bass, and I honestly love Roger's bass playing, partially for how simple it is. Although when he plays what is effectively lead bass (such as on One of these Days) it's also great.
I’m a huge Rock fan and love all the greats, but Pink Floyd is just on another level man and this line up right here can’t be topped. One of the best memory’s I’ll ever have is a magic mushroom trip I had years ago while listening to their album Animals. David Gilmour’s solo’s on that album, particularly his solo on Dogs, are some of the most emotionally charged guitar notes I’ve ever heard. They awaken emotions deep in your soul that you didn’t know you had.
A mi tambien "me pego " ese tema.....Dog....jajja. La guitarra era una escalera mecanica que me dejaba en un lugar flotando y despues caia en otra escalera mecànica....parecia Marios Bross. Saludos desde Argentina.

Wow, great quality. Thank you!
I've watched this dozens of times, but the gravity of reality and the realness of mortality is crashing upon me today. When a band has been a pivotal part of one's life, it's hard accepting the inevitable: shifts, splits, death. Ah, things end. Perhaps watching them age reminds me of my age. And it's ridiculous to have fear about their deaths, but I simply can't imagine a world without David, Roger, and Nick. I am soooooo immensely grateful for their gifts and the many, many hours of listening enjoyment they've provided. Ooof, I don't usually go deep on CZcams but something about day has left me a sobbing mess.
Looks and sounds great. Thanks for the upload.

I woke up on my 17th birthday to the strains of Wish You Were Here. A very memorable day. Such a shame Waters and Gilmour don’t get along. They made some great music together.
