  • After a few days in the springboard country of the Bahamas, and a few days experiencing the splendors of downtown Havana, Cuba, I was like the City Mouse wanting to get out and experience Vinales, Cuba as the Country Mouse for awhile. Before I left, I saw the Museum of Revolution there in Havana first, took a shuttle for a day at a beautiful beach outside of town, saw the train engine graveyard, ate at a Spanish speaking Chinatown restaurant, and then I hopped on a bus to head out to see the famous Cuban cigar tobacco fields and the mogones (exceptionally unique protruding mountains) of Vinales. I stayed with a different family out there than the one I had stayed with in Havana (to help support them). On my first day there I took a ten mile walk to check out the neighborhood, the nearby countryside, and a lot of farm animals.
