- In this food travel vlog, my dad, gf and I try some bún ốc, or Vietnamese snail noodle soup in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Bun oc is a popular noodle soup in Hanoi, made with rice noodles, tomato and shrimp paste broth, snails, tofu, and tomatoes. It is also topped with fresh vegetables.
We found this small noodle restaurant in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Although it was a very unassuming restaurant, the food turned out to be surprisingly good. We at these bowls of Vietnamese soup and gave you our signature Dank Rank Food Review.
For any foodies looking for a unique and authentic taste of Vietnam, trying out some bún ốc is a great option!

Your dad joking about speaking Việt with a heavy northern accent made me giggle, as I speak Thai with a strong northern Thai accent. On the phone, I am a country dude from the north, not a foreigner 😊
I did not know Thai has that too. Many southern Viet have a hard time understanding the strong central and northern accent.
@hatduong2023Tv-tf1gi there are three main variations here; northern, north- eastern, and southern. Everybody has trouble understanding southern Thai, as they speak very quickly, too. Northern and north-eastern speakers have less trouble with each other, and can easily communicate with people in Laos.

A bit of history about Sir Bùi Viện (as a Vietnamese American, I just recently found out 🥲). He was a Nguyễn Dynasty official reformer and diplomat who was also one of the first Vietnamese who ever came to the United States in 1874 and met with the US President Ulysses Grant seeking for assistance to oust the French colonists from Vietnam as the US and France was enemies at the time, very interesting!

Don't forget to try 2 dishes: "Bún Chả" and "Chả Cá - Lã Vọng" while you're still there in Hainoi! A wierd herbal smell and taste but worth the try.

There was a little place right next to my hotel in Hà Nội the last time I was there, which was always full of local aunties. I would sneak down to have it before having breakfast with my dad😂

Your dad went to town on his bowl of bun oc. I was surprised he didn't try to slurp up the broth in between the noodle bites as that would have elevated the noodle soup better.

I had the same thing happened to me when I was visiting Ha Noi. Some local people didn't understand my Southern accent. By the way, your Dad looks hot and I am a guy hahaha.

Aqua snails you find in fresh water ponds, wet paddy fields

Food in ha noi got so much msg and salt. When I went there for the first (and probably) last time. I keep getting a stomache every day (tao thao ruot), now I know why (the food got way too much msg/salt/just toxic)
