Hey Scott! Thanks for linking my shop(StationLevelZero)! I setup a 10% discount code (THANKYOUSCOTT) for people who are coming from this channel :) If this is not allowed I will delete it!
Hi, the link for the design files isn’t working anymore :(
Love your work btw
Bought mine from StationLevelZero, came quick and assembled it works great awesome design man. I like laptops but rarely use one so see no point in paying almost twice the price for a MacBook Pro or even a few hundred more for the Macbook Air. I may get the 14inch MacBook pro but at the moment it's unnecessary for me.
i loved this
like this comment, if you want to see *MORE* ...
of this kind of behind-the-scenes talking videos for my future or past projects. maybe i should make one for the Ender 3 Series? 🤔 let me know what you guys want to see.
I really am interested in anything behind the scenes
I honestly don't know what I want to see, but if anything I'll watch your content:)
Just discovered your channel mate. I think this format and chill vibe is great. Keep up this stuff man!
Yeees please!! 😊
At this point just release anything. Since your portable mac mini video I'm HOOKED on your content, just absolutely love it man.
Man... I don't even stopped to think if I should buy and make the same thing... I understood your problem and that you came out with your own solution and loved the quality of the video itself, but also the final product and was craving for more of the process. I hope you don't break when facing destructive criticism and continue to do such awesome things.
apple fanboys don't think themselves. For me this is brilliant even if it is not necessary and the design so good as always.
Apple Fanboys just crying as always
Yeah lol, not everything will apply to your use case. Some people are doing the inverse of this and getting MBP’s without screens and using them essentially as Mac mini’s with built in keyboard and trackpad. It’s all about finding what works for you. If you have an iPad mini and don’t want to shell out on a whole MacBook Air this could be a great solution for you
As someone who's looking to become an engineer, these are the types of videos that are keeping me from dropping out and giving up. I would love to see more of these videos!
Agree
good luck
The “2 Second Joke”… Totally worth it. It made the point you were making without words. It was a very cool effect and it follows the Show don’t Tell rule in film making.
Yeah it was really funny and clever. Had me wondering how it was pulled off.
It was insane. I thought it was a cake.
I'm not going to lie I'm 3 minutes and 39 seconds into this video and I'm just so upset you have to even address this. I saw your first video and thought oh he doesn't have a macbook laptop. And when you came up with the creative, and emphasize on creative, solution for your demand of portability/desktop hardware, I was so amazed and even blown away thinking "wow that's innovation right there" I know it might not be like you to tell people to get off their high horse because a it is your video and be you have that right but I'm just going to say what everyone else is thinking who was just impressed by your creativity.
thank you for the kind words! and don't be too upset. i KNEW this was a subject that would come up sooner or later as i get more experimental with the projects i share. i wouldn't usually address this kind of thing but i realized it was a good opportunity to share my thoughts on this with the viewers i care about.
@@ScottYuJan fair enough. Really glad you are doing well with your videos. Hey got any recommendations for the ender 3 print settings? Having trouble with mine and not everyone makes it clear how to troubleshoot shoot.
@@ScottYuJan Hey, love your work. I have mailed you a few days ago ( week ago precisely) do check it out when you have some spare time.
@@ScottYuJan Use a capital "i" after every dot and when they're seprate (joke btw)
@@ScottYuJan I thought it was super cool
Your whole approach to the design process and your willingness to open source the design and discuss potential mods with the community like this is awesome!
Man I was like less than a minute in and I just kept thinking…”Why the hell does he even have to go through this.” I love your creativity and editing style. You deserve the praise and the recognition for the hard work for your dedication and how informative your videos are. But, everyone has a different opinion unfortunately ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dude, this whole project is so wholesome. I'm not even going to touch on the quality of the storytelling and editing, it's great. But the motivation, this idea of getting that extra thing out of what you already have, instead of purchasing something new; the fact that you don't sell the STL file, but share it for free, encourage Etsy creators to print it for money, and just want the customer to have working thing in the end...so good to see such a creative person being that uplifting in terms of spirit.
Thumbed through the comments quickly hoping to see someone saying exactly this! 🙏
I can’t believe how generous you are. Love that you share your process and ideas and still willing to let other people make them and sell them. Great video!
I had a think about a few of your videos about this; then I thought- wow cool 😎👍 There are solutions for everyone and every situation if you can't find one; 'do it yourself' or get a friend to help out. Shame putting headphone jacks on all new Apple kit were so easy as this project 😆 Thanks for your passion with your YT channel, awesome.
You can probably swap out the hinge screw with a thread lock screw to prevent it from getting loose. Just a suggestion! Love your vids btw
I don't have a Mac Mini nor an iPad, nor can I afford any apple product anytime soon. I'm watching this video from my old, but functional Samsung phone. Yet I watched your first video and honestly fell in love with it. I don't think deeply about the practicality of it, but it does make so much sense since you have a mac mini and iPad and can solve your problem in a quirky way. This project was so good in many ways, the video quality is top notch, and it's just so fun to watch. I love portable products and the way you made it look so minimalistic and beautiful is inspiring. Sad to see people are hating on this rather than enjoy it.
Watched this till the end even as someone not that into 3d printing. This format works 👍
I think this would be a great concept for artists, being able to carry this on the go is dope. You have the power of a computer and the power of the iPad.
I came across your videos maybe a month ago and I really love the content so far. I think people should appreciate that designing and building something doesn't always have to be about coming up with the best end product to bring to market. Sometimes its cool to just make something for exploration purposes especially if its to solve your own unique problems. I really enjoyed watching the design and build process. To be honest, I'd love to see longer videos that document the entire process in more detail. Your videos are motivating me to try messing around with building my own things too. Thanks!
Fire. Love the videos and their behind the scenes. Keep this going because I think a lot of people will be interested in the process, not just a final product! Thanks.
I study engineering and when i stumbled across your original video it was super eye opening for me. Finding solutions for personal problems and sharing them with the world is something i truly admire. Dont stop and dont let the hate get to ya
Really amazed by your work and how you are so selfless about sharing the design files with the community. We should learn from you to execute our ideas into action instead of just being a dreamer. Love your content!
It was really nice hearing you talk about this kind of stuff. Hope to see more videos like this one in the future!
I love that video so much and I remember watching it dozens of times, I was really inspired how you were able to come up with your own solutions and the way you plan everything out.
Plus the editing and the that 2 second joke was great
I still say it’s admirable the way you were able to build your own portable setup to your own liking and how you are so happy with the outcome and especially proud how it made your life more easier when it comes to working at home and working on the go
About the loosening bolts, you could replace the nuts with lock-nuts coated with teflon, it would reduce the need for adjusting the tension by at least 5-10 times.
I really loved this! It’s really cool hearing all of the behind the scenes - the actual process and craft behind the project is super exciting and interesting!
Thanks for the cool video - I’m looking forward to whatever’s next. :)
I really enjoyed a look behind the scenes and seeing more of your process. I love your style, the birthday, the initials, Tom Sachs meets Cyberpunk meets NASA. I literally went back and watched all your videos after finding the Ender 3 Pro upgrades one. I can’t wait to see more!
A brilliant start for making content in CZcams. Excellent video visuals, sound quality, interconnection of ideas and etc. Thats quite rare to be honest. Keep it up !!
I loved this idea so much! Ignore the haters, I felt that this was a great solution: using the things you already have than spending another 1000 dollars just to make it "portable" for the few hours you need to take a computer out
As someone who owned the first Apple laptop in 1989... The Macintosh Portable. I think this is pretty dope. I think the thing that makes this so useful(to me) is the disconnect between the screen and the keyboard... I love to be able to skew the keyboard at an angle so I can use it one handed, write in a notebook, or use a BT wacom or mouse. Awesome job.
love the quality of your videos. your way of thinking, the way you explain stuff
I realy hope to see more things from you!
I’m really glad I stumbled upon this series of videos. This actually solved an issue for me that I didn’t realize I had.
My iPad is my usual daily driver and I have a computer that I use for the few things I can’t do with my iPad.
I’m currently in the process of considering downsizing my iPad Pro to the Mini for easier carrying around and upgrading my aging pc laptop to a Mac Mini and these videos really got me thinking about how great it would be to have my gear work together so much more cohesively.
Thank you for being the maker you are and for solving a problem I didn’t quite realize that I had! ^^
As a mom of a young boy, I’m not only interested in your cool projects but I’m very interested in you! How can someone become so cool? What kind of parents foster such a genius head? I wanna interview them!! You’re the most cool designer I’ve seen!
i'd say asian parents but you’re one yourself loll
Hmmm
Rachel your son may wanna be a dancer or a chef, only time will tell.... this guy is an engineer, combined with new generation tech and a GenZ narcissist drive.... that's all.
There are many videos as good or better than this channel all over CZcams, and we don't see a face talking for 20 minutes, but actual projects being done, you just like the boy in the screen :P
Hahaha salty boi
Transparency sheets are also known as Acetate film. It took me longer than it should have to find this name a few years ago for a project. They sell it in huge rolls that could be applied to a monitor (also helps with scratches from TTRPG minis on your digital battle map).
I love how are so open with the stuff you make. You could make money from it but by open sourcing and pushing people to improve it it will be a community project and will become much bigger that way. Really love your shii!!
Man, this format of afterthouths is super awsome. it continues the story and also makes your personal story and yourself much more visible and valuable. Thank you for sharing that
Loved your creativity. Finding ways to get more out of existing hardware even if it'd a niche case (especially if it's a niche case, actually) is what I'm all about.
I appreciate this long form BTS video, too.
Upgrading your existing items to save $ is immensely satisfying. You can keep doing this introspective stuff.
I want to say you should not focus too much on the negative people, but I actually liked how you addressed their critiques, since it probably answered some common questions.
Surprised you didn't address how it'd be an improvement to use nylock nuts or thread locker on the hinge.
This is actualy pretty fun to watch, where you explain everything and answering a lot of question in my mind from previous video. This video give a lot of insight for us to designing on our future project.. Also really apreciate for the 3D file ^^ thank you!
I enjoy this video the explanation and also the other ones the creation phase, new to your channel for 2 weeks almost, but already watched all and enjoy the thought process. You and DIY Perks bring me joy and motivation. Thank you
Cool solution, and using stuff you already have is always a great reason to diy. Macbooks historically are notorious for having bad thermals, so I see why one would make the project. I have macOS hackintoshed on to a thinkpad which has great thermals and a spill proof keyboard and other great design philosophies. Neat idea as always though Scott.
Correct me if I'm mistaken but it seems like you enjoyed this kind of video too? I think the best videos will be ones you enjoy working on. But regardless this video was great! As always the production quality is next level and your content is so well structured and presented 👌
The story telling of this video it’s absolutely amazing!! I love the final product and I’m obsessed!
Loved it man! I am a design engineer myself so listening to your thought process and inspirations gave me an idea of what I am currently lacking of.
Keep it up, would love to see more of your new ideas/BTS videos.
If I still did live conference services, it would actually be useful. With the amount of ports, it would be useful to plug in a ATEM mini, Audio interface before needing adapters. Back then there were solutions that used small pelican cases and feelworld monitors so it was definitely something people have been messing around with for a while, but with Intel based mac minis... Yeah i don't feel confident about putting it in an enclosed space
Dude, your ideas, solutions, and inventions helped me solve my own Mac mini portable opportunities. People will always criticize, but you know what, I had such a friend, but in the end, I always blew his mind after the finished product was put to action, lol.
I love this video format, your videos are incredible honestly.
I loved the video! Loved the initial video too
(I personally think the designing process is a very interesting part of such videos but I’m a nerdy person so idk about the rest of your audience) those were actually the first two videos I watch on your channel and you’re seriously awesome man! Your really good with making interesting videos.. keep going and just know you’ve got yourself just another loyal subscriber! :)
I dont even have the time to watch the rest of this video right now, but rest assured ,that past video and intuitive fabrication for utility is genus. If other people don't get it, we'll, it's obvious they are not.
I'm 33% jealous of your engineering skills. I'm 33% jealous of your filming/editing skills. I'm 33% jealous of your whole clean neutral color aesthetic. The other 1% is that sick window view.
Lol
Yes please do more of these after videos i really enjoy listening and getting the reason why! Keep up the amazing work
The direction you’re going in is perfectly my taste and I love it! Keep up the excellent work and video format!
Congrats on being a large enough channel to have the mysterious angry people viewers who seem to hate everything. It’s a milestone!

I def want to see these more to know your opinion/thoughts.
@@omarnotfound thank you! i actually liked it myself just to get the ball rolling 😂
Beauty move releasing stl and step files for this, very helpful.
You are gonna go far my friend! I look forward to your future projects. I'm no designer, but I enjoy the insight of the way you think and the resources you learnt from. Keep going!
I don't comment often, but I love and adore your passion for what you do, thank you for giving it your all, and coming back when you have time. You're a great content creator and can go as far as you desire, can't wait to continue keeping up.
Love your lateral thinking! You got my Subs!
Your first video on this topic is perfect in my opinion. I enjoy art that leaves room for the observer to think and to imagine. The video is excellent in this way and it is no wonder you got so many comments and so much discussion. Plus I had never heard of the Duet app which is quite intriguing and oh-so-very-Apple in its' essence. Thank you so much!
Omg really loved this extra video!! This inspired me in soooo many levels tbh huhu tysm for sharing us the behind the scenes++ 💖💖
I have always wanted to get into 3D printing and maybe soon but I just came across this video browsing CZcams and I am now a fan and subscribed. The Part 1 was great to hook me and as a technical person, Part 2 really sold me on why I need to subscribe and watch all your content.
I've been following your channel since the Ender 3 Pro Mod, just want to say Thank you for the enormous creativity and effort behind to make those great videos!!
Love love love your video editing style, super inspiring and its crazy to think the amount of effort that goes into those little details. Keep it up dude.
Keep it up, the design process is what made your previous video so unique IMO
I usually skip around and videos but this one had me watching every minute, just found your channel from the first vid about it and I subscribed. Keep it up man you make me want to sink more into my tech interests and design interests
Omg... this is so cool. From your inception, thinking, working process. woww... i learn so much and it's just so fun watching from Part 1 to Part 2. And now, im a subscriber~ yay
Wow, great video! Thank you for being so generous to share your time / thoughts / ideas - you are so generous! And it makes for great and inspiring content. Gooooo Scotty! 👍
This is awesome! I like this format and that you shared your files with the community. Looking forward to more of your videos!
This entire process blew my mind 🤯. This is the kinda content that gets you excited and pumped !
I love the videos where you create or have a problem and then build/print a fix, because a lot of people have access to printers but not everyone has a million dollar metal/woodworking shop like other youtubers.
oh its super interesting that you had to "simplify" your motivation in the intro of that video for pacing reasons... makes me rethink some of the other videos i've seen that i didn't get or maybe thought was a bit lacking in explanations. glad you got an opportunity to explain your thought process more in depth in this video!
Thank you for the follow up here with the additional thoughts that led you to make this portable set up. Keep up the good work.
I love this format. It kinda gives a better look of everything
Need to see an updated version of this! Amazing stuff
I love it!! The finished product, the process, the engineering, the issue, the solution brainstorming.
Hey man, please keep on filming projects like this and keep your channel alive. I loved this one and I’m waiting for more.
I love your channel! just binged all your videos, your vids have a super clean high quality feel to it

You are amazing! Just here to watch, got really interested with your MOD (not interested in building it myself, as you said, it’ll be more expensive than a macbook) but it is refreshing to see that you are allowing others to profit from your idea without commission. You are awesome!
Great design work and I love the content, but the editing is just otherworldly. For having a full time job, I really appreciate the time and effort put into these edits!
Love the way you used your 3D printer, genius!!
