Slash is a gift to the world, and when he picks up a guitar, magic happens. Axl is one of the all time greatest to ever pick up a mic. GnR is something special. They were part of a generation that can never be imitated. Modern music rarely reaches as high as the lowest points of that era.

Appetite For Destruction was a a "Press Play, and Walk Away" album. No need to skip any songs. One of the best rock albums ever, in my opinion.

I've been watching a lot of different reactions of black people that never listened to heavy metal, blows my mind. Some will say they lived in a self segregated mind set, Jamel aka Jamal CZcamsr does reactions. He even straight out said he lived in this mind set because of where he grew up. Sad, people do this to themselves, the experience alone is so lost. Just glad they're experiencing it now, in a way it's likes experiencing for the first time myself watching them.
I grew up listening to everything, one of the first country boys to bring NWA and other rap music out and play.
My bestfriend who was black, never listened to metal till after he started hanging out in the country. God the Ozzy Osbourne concert he went to with me and a bunch guys I grew up with. Omg, that was the most crazy hilarious experience ever.

As weird as it sounds I've met so many younger people over the years who have never heard of G N' R, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, or even The Scorpions. My fiancee was raised primarily on classic rock (60s-70s) and classic country (50s-80s) and was stunned at how many unrecognizable (yet mainstream) performers and bands were in my CD/MP3 collections. When she asked me who exactly Deep Purple and Megadeth were my jaw dropped. Once we started looking at bands like Queensryche, Iron Maiden and UFO she was realllllly lost lol. She listens to them all now though and definitely enjoys them. The thing is, she knew Hungry Like the Wolf, Welcome to the Jungle, Love Bites and Winds of Change but just had no clue who sang them since she only had a passing encounter with each of them. It's a story I see/hear all the time with generations who didn't grow up in the heyday of specific genres.
Slash was so shy when he started performing so he always put his hair in his face and wore the hat. It just became his thing.

I saw GNR in concert in 2017 in DC.
ZZ Top was supposed to open but their drummer got sick the day before and they had to pull out. So, GNR being the gentlemen they are decided to come out 30 mins early and played for 4.5hrs straight only taking one break which was Slash doing a THIRTY MINUTE guitar solo which lead into the intro of Sweet Child.
Everyone was on their feet the entire time he was playing and the guy next to me sat down after sweet child was over with an exhausted look on his face and said "Oh my God, it's like he made love to my ears." Still makes me laugh from time to time.
That was great that GnR did that, but it's a far cry from what happened around 1992 with Metallica. They had become friends and went on Tour together and were switching who played last. They were in Canada and Metallica was playing and James got too close to the Piro and got his arm burned real bad and had to be rushed to the Hospital. Everybody was hoping GnR would play longer than their normal set, but Axl got pissed off at somebody in the audience and stormed off stage. The audience got pissed off and started tearing up the place and caused alot of damage to the venue. I'm sure the rest of GnR would have played a longer set, but Axl (back then) used to get pissed off alot.

reactors do. His solos are amazing and epic.

As I recall, the riff that Slash is playing was a "finger exercise" he made up to improve his agility. Axl Rose was upstairs (the band rented a house together) and heard it and thought there might be a song there! He came down stairs and they worked out the whole song right then and there. In the song, the lyric comes to: "where do we go- where do we go from here..." and that was where they ran out of story line and were saying to each other; "Ok, where do we take it from here?" Someone said," let's just leave it like that!" HUGE HIT!

Hmmmm ... I would always say to anyone who believes that story to listen to their label mates Australian Crawl "Unpublished Critics". Lets just say there are more than a few similarities. Dont know if it's deliberate or not, sometimes people just hear stuff and later use it totally oblivious to the fact they are doing it.

@@sconaldo7- The Mandela effect is a false memory though where you are sure of remembering something happening but you are wrong - in this case though I think it's more a case of forgetting a real memory and then using that memory as your own idea - so it's the same sort of thing as the Mandela effect but also kind of opposite - not sure if there's a term for it. The easiest way to see the similarities is ironically listening not to the Gunners version but Alip Ba Ta's guitar cover of the song - when you strip away the Gunners heavier drums and the like and take it right back to the melody they are remarkably similar.
I think George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" would be a classic example - he came up with a melody for a song and was happy with it but later it was claimed it was a rip off of the Chiffons "He's So Fine"
"I wasn’t consciously aware of the similarity between He’s So Fine and My Sweet Lord when I wrote the song," Harrison confessed. "As it was more improvised and not so fixed." - "Although when my version of the song came out and started to get a lot of airplay, people started talking about it." - "It was then I thought," Harrison said: "'Why didn’t I realise?' It would have been very easy to change a note here or there, and not affect the feeling of the record."
I think the same thing is kind of happening with Sweet Child of Mine where someone has heard "Unpublished Critics" and liked the chord progressions and thought no more about it and then later has sort of replicated those chord progressions without it really registering that they were doing it from memory rather than something they had come up with on their own. The fact that it's said Slash was doing a exercise on the guitar with the classic hook indicates it was probably him who heard "Unpublished Critics" at some stage and was then unconsciously recreating that odd hurdy gurdy effect whilst mucking around - Axl has then jumped on that liking the sound and when they have written their song the natural rhythm and sound that goes with that finger exercise have flowed on afterward. Thats lead to something that is very similar to Unpublished Critics because it's built around the same basic hook. It's possible he just came up with the hurdy gurdy sound totally independently and everything else just flowed naturally but the end result is so similar melodically that it just seems more likely he's heard the other song and replicated elements unintentionally.

The singer Axl Rose had in his prime one of the biggest vocal ranges in the world for a male vocalist, spanning several octaves. He could go high and he could go low. There's a story about how when he was a kid and sang in a children's choir he used to switch to such a different octave that he'd confuse their teacher because he'd switch from tenor to baritone or something like that and the professor would think someone had snuck in and started singing. GNR have way too many great songs, this is but the tip of the iceberg.
Depending on the day, warmups, and the way the wind blows, my voice can hit 4 octaves. But I've had very little training, and came to it late in life (I'm 61 now, and only started singing a few years ago). Which I mention because I do the same thing. I have so little skill/control that I just jump around like crazy and can't pick where to sing. Wish I'd learned a lot younger than I did.

Axl Rose had an incredible range in his youth. By the way, Carrie Underwood has performed with Axl. She also did a believable live performance or "Paradise City". Chek out there other Guns N Roses titles; "Paradise City" and "Welcome To The Jungle".
For a few years, GnR were the biggest band in the world, until they simultaneously imploded and exploded. Slash and Axl didn't talk for about 20 years, until the 2016 Not In This Lifetime tour. We're still waiting for new music from them, although Axl did put out a solo album under the GnR name that some people like - and all the other members have put out solo material as well.
The whole of Appetite for Destruction is a standout, with the hits being this song, Paradise City, and Welcome to the Jungle. I also suspect you'd like November Rain from their set of followup double albums, Use Your Illusion 1 and 2.
How about that! I didn't know Axl and Slash hadn't spoken for around 20 years. The fall out had to be over something big right?
@@evangelina3541 - As I understand it, Axl kind of went mad with power and Duff and Slash were really heavily down the drug rabbit hole and he kind of pressured them when they were wasted to sign some docs that basically gave him rights to everything. Hard to know who was right and who was wrong because junkies are not reliable so it's not hard to see Axl's point of view at trying to secure the band and on the other hand getting kind of screwed over by your bandmate is also not great so I can see Duff and Slash's point of view. I doubt Axl would have done it had they not been out of control ( had they been in control they wouldn't have been super wasted) but by the time it happened everything had become super toxic in the band. The fact that pretty much all of the rest of the band formed Velvet Revolver sums up that Axl wasn't Mr popular. I think everyone was to blame to be honest. It's probably better now because Slash & Duff are better and they clearly worked enough out to agree to play together again. It's a shame because had everyone stayed together and avoided losing their minds in their heyday there's no telling how good the stuff they produced could of been - as it was we got some decent Velvet Revolver stuff and a never ending wait for Chinese Demorcracy that ended up feeling sort of stale by the time it was released.
@@evangelina3541 not any one big thing. But lots of things. Axl adding guitars from a non-band member to their cover of Sympathy For the Devil was one of the last straws, but his chronic lateness and willingness to walk off stage early and provoke a riot were bigger.

Oh my, I remember when this song came out! It cost me $87!! I was cruising down the highway, doing 55 mph (National speed limit back then), and this song fired up on the radio. About the point of Slash's solo, I start picking up speed and by the end of Axl's final wail, I have blue lights in my mirror! The officer was nice and only wrote me up for 15 over.

The singer axl rose has a 5 octave range. His speaking voice is actually very low thats the crazy thing
I was going to mention this. His natural singing voice is a bass-baritone, he just sang higher because that was the expectation for rock at the time. His range is/was phenomenal.
Also reminds me of Tim Foust with low natural low speaking voice but also can hit very high. 5 or 6 octives.. not many male vocalist out there that has range like that

I opened a Compact Disc store in 1988 .there were 4 groundbreaking albums from that year that changed music, IMO. Guns-n-Roses - Appetite for Destruction; Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien; Living Colour - Vivid; Melissa Etheridge - Melissa Etheridge(self titled). In time I believe each of these four will cross your path - and I look forward to it!

I agree Step Brothers is one of my favorites too, but my all time favorite is "The Jerk" with Steve Martin. If you haven't seen it you have too. There are so many lines in that movie that you will think of just doing your daily things like "and I don't need anything else ooh I need that!"
Appetite For Destruction is, IMO, one of THE best hard rock albums of all time. From start to finish, it's a masterpiece.
The background of this song is very interesting. That open riff is actually a string skipping exercise that Slash did when they had down time. Axl Rose heard it and said, "I have a poem I wrote about my girlfriend that would fit that..." To which Slash was like, "Um, this isn't a real riff, but okay..."
When they start saying "Where do we go now?" near the end of the song, that was a legit question. They didn't know how to end the song, they recorded that, it became an instant hit.

You really should listen to "Unpublished Critics" by Australian Crawl sometime - they were on the same label and lets just be kind .... maybe the Gunners heard the older track at some stage and didn't really register that fact when they wrote this song. There are enough similarities that while it's not a straight lift note for note it's similar enough to be jarring.
Patience is another absolutely beautiful GnR song, you should give it a listen.

Britt - I saw them in 1985 or 86 open for the Rolling Stones at the Coliseum in LA. They were so good, they made the Rolling Stones sound like a bunch of amateur's. They were incredible in their prime.

This song is a masterpiece. Period. The Slash's solo is a killer. I saw G'n'R live back in 1991 (in August, if I'm not mistaken). Their show was fantastic. And they were supported by Skid Row, which is another great rock band. Thank you for the reaction! This is really fun to watch.
This song has a very special place in my heart. It was played at my best friend's funeral so it can be a little hard to get through. I did alright today though.
Great reaction. This is the band at their early prime, right off their debut album. One of those first records where an artist just totally gets it right, from the very start. The lead singer Axl Rose actually has or had a very broad vocal range, from super-high all the way down to quite low. This very high voice seemed to be the one he used most often in the group. It was pretty much basically the norm for male rock singers of this era. Just to note, when the ‘90s arrived the pendulum swung back the other way. And as far as that club goes, any man would be quite lucky to belong to it.

One of the greatest bands of all time...and this album is my favorite album of all time.
At their peak Axl and Slash were the greatest vocalist/lead guitarist duo. They complimented each other better than most of the legendary bands before themselves. Better than Zeppelin, Sabbath or Van Halen. They could both be wailing vocals and guitars licks simultaneously and never clash or drown each other out. Just meshed perfectly

I can see that, they both had driving and strong voices that seem to overpower.
GnR is the truth. They were a "hair band" but played some of the most intricate rock music ever made. While almost all other rock bands were out there just hitting power riffs, GnR was putting together songs with layers upon layers.
Britt, Guns N' Roses was huuuuuuge in it's day. It was named after it's former guitarist (Tracii, Guns, who went on to later form the band L.A. Guns and the supergroup Contraband) and vocalist Axl Rose who you see/hear here. This song was written for Axl's GF (Fiancee?) at the time, Erin Everly (who was the daughter of Don Everly of the Everly Brothers). Both G n' R and the Everly Brothers were fantasti bands although decades and styles apart.
Love GNR!! This song was also in the movie Big Daddy with Adam Sandler. One of my favs. Great reaction!! 🙂

Slash is so hot and the sweetest guy! His guitar is so clean and precise. I met him at a Gibson event here in Nashville. He shook my hand and spoke to me and asked questions and just conversed for 3-4 mins. I was so shocked and so proud i didnt go fan girl until about 20 mins later. I had his posters in my wall when i was a preteen and 25 years later, i spoke with him. I still swoon!.
I know everyone always talks about Axl and Slash, but Duff's bass lines... love em!

IMHO GnR is the last and greatest of the L.A. hair metal bands and one of the top 10 greatest bands of all time. They were HUGE in their day!

Oh dear I’ve always been a rock n roller and I remember being a kid and wanting my own Walkman and a cassette tape because those were all the rage in the mid to late 80s. My parents were cool enough to get me my own Walkman and Guns N Roses’ Appetite For Destruction album on cassette tape
Been playing guitar for 20+ years and this is still probably my favorite song to play front-to-back. Every note is just perfect. Even the bass part is super cool.
