John Denver always reminds me of my childhood, he had such timeless songs Rip John you left us way too soon 🙏
Same here, because my mother loved John Denver and would play his music while she did housework.
Me to 😭😭😭
Denver wrote this for his then-wife Ann Martell after their first separation and near break up of their marriage in 1974. He said that it was one of the fastest songs he ever wrote, composing it in about 10 minutes while he was riding on a ski lift in Aspen, Colorado. Denver was reflecting on all the joy he found in his marriage and his relief that they were back together.
Wrote Denver: "Suddenly, I'm hypersensitive to how beautiful everything is. All of these things filled up my senses, and when I said this to myself unbidden images came one after the other. All of the pictures merged and I was left with Annie. That song was the embodiment of the love I felt at that time."
Annie recalled the day Denver wrote the song: "It was written after John and I had gone through a pretty intense time together and things were pretty good for us. He left to go skiing and he got on the Ajax chair on Aspen mountain and the song just came to him. He skied down and came home and wrote it down... Initially it was a love song and it was given to me through him, and yet for him it became a bit like a prayer."
(Songfacts.com)
when you are in a state of love, you are ONE with Earth and the Universe. That
s why he held such high regard for it. Love is sacred.
Thank you
He wrote this in 10 minutes after a fight with his wife. Such a beautiful song.
Imagine singing this and hearing , “Nah, you stay on the couch!”
i thought while skiing in the mountains through the woods
I heard she wasn't too thrilled when he recorded it, because it was HER song.
Annie was his wife. After he died in that plane crash, Annie made a garden at their home near Aspen, Colorado and in the garden she placed a stone monument for each of John's songs with the name of the engraved.
Wow...that must have been a lot of stones.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
What a pure soul he was.
What beautiful music he left behind him. ⚘️ ♡
Sadly, a chronic alcoholic.
This song always reminds me of my mom, and brings me back. She really loved John Denver, especially this song. Everyone in our small town knew that she loved it. After the mass, at her funeral, as we were taking her out of the Church, the choir, began to sing this song for her. I burst out crying…. her friends were saying good bye to her. I later found out, that upon the news of her passing, they quickly learned the song for her funeral. Even had someone play the guitar, no organ.
It was a fitting tribute to her.
Stay safe, stay sane, stay Strong
Brad & Lex, you'll love his "Sunshine On My Shoulder", "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" and "Rocky Mountain High!!!!!
Such a beautiful song.
A National Treasure. RIP 🙏
*This is one of the most beautiful songs of them all. Gets me every time I hear it.*
Such a gorgeous song!
John Denver is pure magic!
"You fill up my senses, come fill me again"......such a great line.
I was born in 1965. Whenever I hear songs from John Denver it transports my minds eye back to pleasant, innocent days of my youth. Other songs that do this to me from John Denver are "Country Roads" and "Sunshine On My Shoulder". On a semi-related note, John Denver starred in a movie called "Oh God" with the late, great George Burns.
I love this song.
Terrific song. John was a master storyteller.
Here's a great (true) story about this song: Two random ladies were getting on an elevator in NYC. One older - one younger. This song was playing in the elevator, and the younger lady said to the older lady - this song is so beautiful - do you know the name of it?" "Yes I do - the older lady said - it's called *_Annie's Song_* - John Denver wrote it for me when we were married back in the 70's."
Oh Murray! Your story made me cry over my breakfast! Just BEAUTIFUL! Thank you! Peace and Blessings to you and your family from Australia.
WOW!!!
😢💔 love is so beautiful. Unfortunately in today's Internet day and age it tends to end in heartbreak most times...😔 I loved a gal. It was like a fairytale, I remember holding her in my arms and her smile and my smile and being so happy. She cheated on me, and even after the fact I couldn't get mad at her I was too in love, so I calmly ended it and kept the pain inside with a smile on my face. 🥹💔
Did not see that coming..😮 Wow
My late husband and I were married in 1973, and he passed away in 2015. He told me when we first married and we were young that anytime that I hear this song, to always remember that he loved me like the song says.
A beautiful song. The instrument is a (flat back) mandolin, very popular in folk music.
He really sounds good live. So many beautiful songs.
R.I.P. John🙏❤...Thanks For ALL You Gave Us & The Beauty You Added To This World Of Ours 🌎
What a stunning song 🤗 have I told you how much I adore you three ♥️ great reaction
Gone too soon, he had the sweetest voice.
Hey guys what's up! I can't believe you're doing this song. I love this song. This was one of my mom's favorite songs. I learned it on guitar just for her. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
John Denver was an amazing artist ♥️🎶 On October 12, 1997 he was killed when he crashed the Long-EZ aircraft he was piloting after it ran out of fuel just off the coast at Pacific Grove, CA. “He has a really fun song called “Grandma’s Feather Bed” ♥️
You should listen to the studio version, with the full orchestra backing him - it will send chills up and down your spine. Another great song is "Sunshine on my Shoulders".
They should always listen to studio versions - cos those were the ones that people loved first.
It so beautiful when you hear it A Cappella.
Such a romantic song, the lyrics are so beautiful., like a prayer.
It's tragically amazing how many great story telling song writers died so young. John Denver, Jim Croce and Harry Chapin to name a few, they wrote wonderfully touching songs along with funny and serious pieces as well. We will never know how many more classics they could have produced, a terrible loss not only to their families, but to society as well!
Pretty sure John was in his mid 50’s when he passed away. Not exactly young, but certainly too young to go. The immense fame took a lot out of him. His long battle with alcoholism was more than likely a factor in his tragic passing.
Dan Fogelberg (Peoria native), cancer.
@@JRoss707 John Denver died in a plane crash on October 12, 1997. He was piloting his own aircraft when it crashed into Monterey Bay in California. The cause of the crash was determined to be a combination of factors including low fuel and incorrect fuel tank selection. Not alcoholism.
Definition of serenade right here!
Got to see John 3 times, always an amazing show. And will always be grateful to my parents who played his music so much on vacation. (8 track of course) They were really cool people!
So glad you guys listened to this one, very special to my wife and I, it was the song for the first dance at our wedding 22 years ago! :)
A beautiful love song.. he LOVED the mountains and his use of the imagery is masterful... Love song these days don't even come close... Just gorgeous... Great choice!!! 🎵🎤🎹🎷🎶
I absolutely love John Denver !!! Every song is beautiful
What a beautful romantic song, its sweeping and yes it melts your heart as a woman , I love it, How could you ever get mad at a man who could write a song like this for you
Does Brad ever reach over and hold Lex's hand during these romantic songs? lol John Denver live is the best
Are they a couple or sister and brother ?
@@bibistaufi2653 I hope they're a couple because Lex is having Brad's baby. LOL.
Why would he, they're married now.
"You know I'm a robot." - Brad
:)
I agree. Sometimes the girl looks like she needs a PDA.
He had such a beautiful voice and this song really highlights that
I believe that this beautiful song by John is from The Wildlife Concert. From the same concert, his performance of Rocky Mountain High is one of my all time favourite live performances.
Now this is a love song.
Such a beautiful sentiment and yes, that was a mandolin.
John's stardom lasted much longer, but in 1973-5, when he was "new", he was the biggest singing star in the country. His great songs, written by him, just cascaded out on top of each other and this was one of them. For decades, his "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" has been played at Orioles games and when the organization took it away, the fans made them bring it back. Moreover, we loved his upbeat enthusiastic personality and he occasionally was a substitute host on the Tonight Show.
Great song, great reaction.
One of the most beautiful love songs ever. I was devastated when he died. We lost a treasure. His voice was so pure and beautiful. I'm glad you got to hear it.
absolutely love this song
Truly an awesome reaction to an awesome song by an awesome artist... Thanks guys
John Denver was a national treasure. What a fantastic songwriter and singer.
I saw him live back in the day and he was great. I was a rock n roll snob at the time & sent with a friend as a favor. Wow - he blew me away!!
Denver is awesome. Unfortunately most people only know him for Take me home country roads.
I know him and this song for more than 40 years now. When I discovered a Best of from him music cassette in a drawer when I was very little. It was one of the few MCs my parents had and I fell in love with his songs. Not understanding a single word as a 7 year older German kid. But the melodies just resonated with my heart. And they still do. Through all my rock an metal journey Denver has never been a guilty but proud pleasure of mine. He was one of kind songwriter. And this song is one of his best.
My favorite John Denver song, thank you Brad & Lex, I love your channel!
Many road trips as a child to the mountains and we listened to John Denver. We also drove from California to Alaska and this album brought me to tears seeing the majestic mountains.
This was played at my nans funeral
Such a beautifully soothing voice.
One of the sweetest, prettiest love songs ever.
Beautiful live version of this song. Perfect mixture of symphonic melody and poetic lyrics.
So many John Denver songs, so little time. All excellent.
Alright. This guy was fabulous.
John Denver is a great rabbit hole to go down! Very special talent
He also wrote Calypso, Jaques Coustous ship.....he was Wonderful!
"Starwood In Aspen", "This Old Guitar", "Rhymes and Reasons", "Poems, Prayers, and Promises", "Follow Me", and "Like A Sad Song", are some of my favorite John Denver songs!!!❤️❤️❤️
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Much Luv too you Both!! Thank you for this memory.
His best song ever. Really beautiful.
RIP. He was such a great song writer.
Deeply romantic. Thank you John.
Brad, you're the luckiest guy. Seeing the face of an angel every day.......plus,............. you got that CZcams thing going on.....(:
Probably my earliest memory of songs and a songwriter 👍🏼
His songs about Colorado are inspirational Good insight
There are few artists whose music inspires the same kind of peace and happiness that John Denver does. 🤗
First song that I learned to play on guitar and I immediately fell in with John's beautiful songs
We would listen to An evening with John Denver with my parents on road trip vacations on 8 track lol in the 70’s it’s an amazing live album. Give it a listening reaction on your show. Enjoy
RIP John. Such a true musician.
Being into 80s pop and Ska this was my guilty pleasure in my youth - still beautiful
Never saw my mother cry of happiness untill when my brother, my sister and I sang Annie (her name). My brother is a brilliant guitar player and my sister and I wellll. we sing. Still she cried. (but we tried). One of the best nights ever.
The words are like magic...
A wonderful John Denver song. I like so many of his songs. I remember a funny one called "Grandma's Feather Bed."
Nobody wrote purtier songs than John Denver, and this one's his purtiest.
If songs were looks, this song is gorgeous, Glad the two of you enjoyed it.
Love this song .
John Denver is my favorite when it comes to American Folk music❤
I've Never liked country music (and I live in Texas), but this is one of the Most Beautiful Love Songs I've ever heard...and I've heard Many!
I didn't really give it a chance in my youth, Avoiding Romance almost Completely to cope with traumas. Now I listen to it and all I can Think & Feel is "I Want That (More Than Anything)"!
LEX has never looked more beautiful!
That instrument you're talking about is a mandolin. Beautiful sounds it makes.
I feel that John Denver and Jim Croce were two sides of the same coin. John was the rural side and Jim was the urban side. They were so good at singing about their environments and love.
The best, most pure love song ever.
Yeah guys. Pretty sure you are talking about the mandolin parts. You should check out the song John wrote as a tribute to Jacques Cousteau the Oceanographer and marine life ecologist. His floating lab (ship) was named Calypso, and that is the name of the song.
You might like this type of music when you are in the delivery room. You are glowing Lex. God bless you both and little baby too!
He was so popular when I was a kid and his songs were on the radio all the time. And he had a decent variety and what he did. Because he also had some super upbeat stuff like Thank God I'm a Country boy, and, grandma's feather bed. You should check out either of those. And then Sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy was it huge hit, especially with the girls, and then to me one of his most beautiful and haunting songs is, Take Me Home Country roads.
Around that time I was at this summer camp in the mountains of Colorado with the Boy Scouts, and on one of those nights, we had a bonfire and everyone gathered around and John Denver showed up and played and sang with us and just hung out with us for a while. That was a real treat. It was a surprise kind of thing so you can tell how that would go over with kids, it was awesome. I can still remember the firelight kind of reflecting and flickering off of his spectacles while he sang and told stories. We were impressed that he was also a pilot and had flown in there for the event that night.
An overlooked great song from him is "Looking For Space"... I love that one.
Wow I’d forgotten how beautiful this song is, she is every “sense” that he finds perfect and thrilling. Lex is right, everyone should feel this way about their partner.
👍👍 One of the greatest singer's of All TIME. RIP brother. ❤️😔
Love this song 🎵 ❤️. My niece got married recently and this was their 1st dance song. Surprised me because they're into really heavy music. I thought it was a perfect song
Yeah now I feel now I'm feeling like I'm in Colorado
I do like Colorado Rocky Mountain high that's a John Denver I haven't pet still you know
And I'm a contributor here so I like listen to some John Denver country roads cause I get home country roads coz that's where that's how I get home on the country roads
Eddie Moore I don't think anybody remembers Mickey Gilley Mickey galley was in the urban cowboy maybe with John Denver
John Travolta Amir Emmett John Travolta Mickey Gilley the song is called Beta roses Beta roses by Mickey Gilley yeah
John Denver was a true poet….such a loss….I grew up in that Era … my mother used to play his 🎶 music and I can’t hear one of his songs and not think of her….
This song is is the vibe I get from you two when I watch you both interact with each other.
There are so many great voices that many of us have learned to know starting in the sixties and John’s is up there with the best! It is so pure!
This was the first dance at my wife and my wedding (lady's choice of course), and I cry every time I hear it!
This is my favorite song of his and one of my favorite songs of all time from any artist. And with Lex's description of how that instrument sounded maybe it was the flute that we heard that was being played in the song.
Aside from the message in his music, what I've always loved about John Denver is his effortless vibrato and his range without having to resort to falsetto, things you rarely see combined outside of operatic tenors.
For something even a step up from this, you should listen to his song "Calypso", which is literally about the research vessel used by famous 70s oceanographer and conservationist Jacque Cousteau but is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️
John Denver
# Sunshine on my shoulders
# Rocky mountain high
# Take me home country road
# Leaving on a jet plane
I used to figure skate endlessly to this song.. because the gal who taught us skating would loop this song somehow and play it in the arena when we were all practising lol... i was only 6, but I can remember people being annoyed ^_^ My favorite part of the song, after the lyrics.. is the feather guitar that plays throughout almost the entire song.. it['s so feather light but you can hear it ringing behind the scenes with a sometimes solo and it beautifully comes through..the flute finishes it off... with such elegance. Yep.. loved the song since childhood..
Taken way to soon ,so many songs he would of penned ,so talented!!
One of the most beautiful love songs of all time. And that man had perfect pitch.
It’s the penultimate love song guys.
When you meet that special someone; your special someone; this song defines it…
one of the best love songs ever written
