Rebuild Kit Carburetor 9A586-8
Hey Jeff - you're probably aware of this by now - but when you wondered why John peened over the top of the float needle. Apparently, this is one of the versions. Per copy on Mikes carburetor for part# NS561: "There is more than one style needle and seat assembly used in these carburetors, match your existing assembly to the part photo to be sure you're ordering the correct one. The other style typically used is a one piece assembly."
Anyway, I love your channel. It's the first place I look for so many things related to my 351C '70 Cougar Eliminator...from suspension to drum brake conversion and Pertronix...to the 4300 carb rebuild!! Thanks !! Your first video helped me break the carb down, and I'm putting it back together with this one...after I get my secondary bypass plug from Mikes carb parts!!
Thanks for the kind words! I am currently looking for a really good 4300 guy for modified cars. Think Pure stock drags, to help me with tuning the 4300D.
Best show on the web.
Just want to say this video is helping a lot! I've got the 4350 for my Ford 460. It's confusing, especially since this is my first time working on a carb! But so far everything's been super similar between the two, so at least I had a base to go on
BTW...... That "Cap" you referred to, in front under the Float... Is a Ford retrofit Plug, that used to be a Secondary Enrichment Valve.
The Valve, only fitted to 4400s and 4400Ds, was causing an overrich condition when the Secondaries were opened.
It was found that on anything but the 429SCJ and 460 Engines - any Valve was too rich! The Plug improved Driveability.

Zep Super Degreaser works really good for cleaning the carb. Better than simple green.
If you need that spring for the power valve, check with Mikes Carburetor Parts Also has the new floats.
We use Mike's a lot. Just put the Electric choke conversion from them on the F100.
I just sold one of these. Good job on the video. Also, I liked your articles when you were with Mustangs Monthly.
Thanks! Love doing what I am doing now. WAY more immediate.
Soda blast seems to work. Spray with the newer blaster surface shield to protect the surface.
Interesting.
@@AutoRestoMod blaster’s surface shield claims to protect metal surfaces for up to two years and better than other products. I think they are selling it in bulk container now in 2023. Was only in 12 oz aerosol.
2nd!!! I was almost first this time. Jeff try vinegar to clean it up. I’ve used it on carbs for a while now.
That was the one ting I didn't try! We were almost out of vinegar at the house so I didn't want to use up the stuff we use for grub.
AutoRestoMod Car Restoration Modification I buy the cheap stuff, at the grocery store. In the cleaning isle they have “cleaning vinegar”. I have a plastic coffee can, cheap palm sander rig I use for small engine carbs. I soak the carbs overnight, and I have a way I strap the palm sander to the top of the can. I let it run for 30 min or so then I pull it out and rinse it with fresh water then blow them out with compressed air. I don’t usually allow aluminum to stay in the soak for more than 24hrs with out checking it.
Thanks for sharing this video, priseless when i rebuild my 4300 :-)
Great to hear!
Does that air damper rod and piston go all the way to bottom of its cylinder ? Mine was seized up, used Kroil penetrating oil and got it freed. Now it will not go to the bottom ,gets stuck, any ideas on how to resolve this issue, I can’t find anything ?
Holy Cow Batman, the 4300 is OEM on my 72 LTD and this is NASA science stuff. I’m not sure if I want to make this carburetor renewal to keep my car stock.
Allstate Carburetor can do the rebuild. It really isn't that bad to do though.
My jets are stamped 367 and I have no idea what that means. They definitely aren't 3.67mm and are too small for .067. Does anyone have an idea? It ran okay but it was leaking gas so I'm putting in new gaskets.
What's a carburetor do? haha Nice job with the vid! -Glen
It...carburets?
AutoRestoMod Car Restoration Modification great vid!....Hot for Teacher?.......great song but I'm more of an Ice Cream Man guy myself!
oh by the way may I suggest a full size for the next project! (57-61!)
a carb is nothin more then a controlled leak.
First! And btw I love your guys videos. How's the Fairlane doing.
Pretty good. The C4 is about on it's last leg, shuddering, holding shifts. We have a 4R70W that we are going to be installing as soon as we get our lift. Probably in the fall.
Can you point me in the direction for my 2150 Motorcraft 2bbl for where the vacuum lines go and my 302 engine. Thank you and love this show
What year car or truck are we working on?
AutoRestoMod Car Restoration Modification it’s a 1965 f100 stepside. I’m putting a 302 in it and different manual transmission in it. Restoring it
How did the 65’s work for you
They are still a wee rich.
What is the stock size?
@@Majorreflexes 58 to 62, depending on application....
Small Blocks like 60. 😉
Thank you for an excellent video, both my AMC 4300s have the spring on the "bottom" of the secondary choke opening rod.
I have always known them to be on the bottom. Is it possible the bottom is correct. This is the plunger on the left hand side of the carburetor..thank you
For American Motors the spring goes under the secondary upper plate lever. Again the spring goes below the plunger next to the air horn on the left hand side

I am not sure which spring we are talking about. The above is a diagram that might show what you need to see.
Hogwash used to work great! But it's not on the market anymore.
Hogwash...isn't that what Doc Adams used to say on Gunsmoke? Woops...dated myself...
@@AutoRestoModQuit your palaverin!
Anyone know where i can get a backward screw that goes into the throttle shaft like the one he mentioned in this video.
Try Mikes Carburetors www.carburetor-parts.com/
Here at 15:40. Just how will this pin or shaft stay there??
It is a split pin.
