Early December we ordered a new bed, which was delivered and got put together for us by that company in the week before Christmas.
Three fitters showed up and one of them was deaf and mute.
Your channel played a big part in why I was able to not only thank him but wish him a merry Christmas in sign language.
Thank you so much for what I not only learned through your channel but was inspired to keep learning to sign.
This young man was smiling all over and beaming with joy. The both of us had tears in our eyes and his colleagues said none of their customers has ever been able to sign with him.
Btw, his colleagues don't understand sign language either, but the three of them kind of invented their own sign language to be able to do their job together and it works fine for them.
If ya can't learn the language, creating one is the next best bet I guess!!! So happy he can communicate with his colleagues and got to sign his language to somebody new. Kudos.

Your wedding rings and engagement rings should match. Also, Ryan, make sure you remember to take off your ring when you're working or doing something with your hands where you might accidentally lose the ring or get it scratched up n stuff. It’s soooooo hard to make wedding decisions because it’s generally the biggest event that people have ever needed to plan. I think you hit the nail on the head Ellen when you said that you are learning what you like and don’t like- figuring out how to really own your perspective. That’s a big step for young adults and a much needed one before starting a family. ❤ I love to see such thoughtfulness of each other in your relationship and really respect how you give each other time and space to grow. What a wonderful way to start your marriage journey. 👏🏼🤟🏼
As far as the ring goes I have 2 suggestions! Either have 2 rings, one that's nice and for when you go out together and a different one for when you are doing any sort of manual labor. Or, what my husband did was go to the jeweler and ask for whatever the toughest metal is. I think his ring is made of tungsten, they can't bend or break easily and basically would have to be cut off your finger if for some reason it needed to be removed and you couldn't get it off the regular way. Also, for comfort, rounded beveled edges, instead of a more hard square bevel makes it much more comfortable for your finger and hand! My husband uses his hands daily and never has to worry about his ring breaking or getting bent, and it's super comfy because of the rounded edges so that it flows into the finger instead of being a hard edge against it. Hopefully I've described it well enough you can find something similar! Good Luck with all the planning!

We didn’t have a fancy wedding back in 1976….I just bought a dress from Cato and my husband wore his dress blues. We were in the military at the time. The chapel was free and we just went back to the house for cake and light lunch. I believe the cake cost more than my dress. Just try not to stress about stuff and enjoy the planning.
We have been married 21 years November. I pushed out the engagement a year to plan and it was worth it. I think the best thing during the planning was allowing family to come in and help with decisions. No joke it brought my family closer and lots of great memories. I didn’t do it all with my hubby I made it special including grandma, sister, mom, mom-in-law and sister-in-law. It was a bonding experience I will never forget and don’t take for granted. Sorta like my gift to them as well, flowers, dress, cake, the hall and decorations were all from family. The anniversary was all about hubby and me, as well as all decisions leading after that.
I think you guys are 100% right to take your time- you're already together in every other way, don't have to necessarily have the formal wedding to be a couple. Look at folks like Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn; they do what works for them. Congratulations, by the way! For some reason youtube stopped showing me your channel, but recently has started up again. Just ignore people who are trying to force the wedding etc, take your time!
I always appreciate hearing more of your story. Fun to discover there was a great signing couple in the same area sharing the language - you've both really helped me get back into learning the language! Nothing but good wishes for you both.
A backyard, a BBQ, some beer & wine is all you need. Keep it simple & comfortable.

Yeah, we had a come as you are impromptu picnic wedding at a lake with forests and got married in a round clearing in the forest next to the lake. Everybody brought something and it was real casual. Couple of people took pictures. Our friend was the minister. We didn't have rings yet, so they were the something borrowed from 2 friends. Three of our friends were musicians so they played whatever was fun and one had written a song for us and played it on guitar. Had a cassette tape recorder record the whole thing. I wore a Summer sunsuit (a one-piece shorts with sleeveless top) that looked Hawaiian. Everybody wore picnic attire: shorts, jeans, t-shirts. After, we had friends in a band playing on a paddle wheel boat that was a restaurant - so we danced and partied and ate dinner. Then 2 days later, we drove to a friend's house in Tahoe for the honeymoon and more partying and were there 5 days, then drove back. No stress or planning and everybody loved it and had fun. We called it our $29.99 wedding.
I think having this communication between you is SO important. I have seen so many couples where the guy stays out of it because he doesn't have strong opinions and the girl gets upset because she thinks he doesn't care or doesn't want to be involved, even if that may not be true. Or one partner feels like the other person is TOO controlling and they don't get a say. Having open and honest conversations really helps couples understand each other and their real motive behind their actions. Usually it's not as nefarious as you imagine.
Ryan can get a "dress" ring-fancy and also, a silicone one--which is handy for when he's working on things...this is super common for us guys.

That's interesting 😃 In my country I have never seen a silicone wedding ring or anyone changing out ring to do something. We just take it off if we feel like you can't use it. But usually expecially older man wedding rings have gotten a bit small as their hands have widened out and they can't even get the ring out anymore 😄 Those rings expecially are not on the way of anything.
I just want to say that I have loved following your journeys over the past few years. I also think that you should just take your time and not rush the wedding plans. I want to say that you both have the best smiles and your eyes really light up when you are talking with each other. That is very special! Many blessings to you both!!

i've been watching your guys' videos for years now, and i'm so happy to be caught up on your most recent ones about your engagement. congratulations!! it almost feels like my parents are getting married haha. as for rings, i would say get whatever ring you'd like to get (don't limit yourself to something practical) and instead get a ring keeping necklace. that way, you can keep it in a safe spot when you're working with your hands, and back on your finger when it's not. if you're not particular about having it on your hand all the time, then even just a simple quality chain. think creatively with your options!! i wish you both so much happiness in your lives.
I found y'all's account in the middle of the night and love watching your videos. I had a Deaf friend growing up and I hated not ever having the local recourses to learn ASL. I have gotten multiple recourses now and hope to start attending classes soon. You both are an awesome couple and I hope you live happy, and fun filled lives.

We had so many friends helping us out with food, decorations and entertainment, offering their help for free, but we still went over budget! I love this video so much. You two are so amazing, and I love you both so much as well! I'm really glad to know that you are taking your time with the wedding, because it's sooooooo important! My cousin planned her wedding last year, and it was an Indian wedding (which basically meant all the different ceremonies associated with it lasted for quite a few days, haha).

Love that you two are posting again! I watched you a ton when I took my first asl class a few years ago, and I just started back up in an online interpreter program a few months ago, so it's nice to watch your videos and get a little bit if practice in while doing something I enjoy: watching you two. I'd love for you to do a video talking about if Ellen finished any of her interpreting classes, what she learned, Ryan's experiences and thoughts on what makes a good or bad interpreter, etc!

Oh and I just wanted to say that the big decisions are find the location and that helps you pick a date, and then everything else gets planned around that. Everything else is smoother. You just need a checklist of items and go down it deciding if you want to include it or not. But most importantly, if a big wedding is not the way you want to go, then keep it comfortable and casual. It’s really whatever makes you both happy. The memories will last forever so of course a big family party is ideal for that, but it’s most important that you are both not breaking your bank just to meet expectations. Be happy and do it happily even if it’s smaller or not fancy. The only thing people want to see is your love and happiness together. ❤

SignDuo I don’t know if you remember me It’s Jasper, the very first video I saw of you guys. Was the drive tru the first one, I remember learning how to sign was really hard I had a asl teacher who taught me everything he then moved back to his home state. He said he would come back in the summer. Sadly my family and I moved churches, there wasn’t much we could do. The last thing he taught my friends and I was to speak and sign without our voices. I will never forget that most amazing moment. I had a crush on the most cutest boy ever. Last year my friend and I started having feelings for each other and then this past Nov 24th we started dating I’m still learning asl and I’m going to be teaching my boyfriend asl as well. Yeah, take your time-personally, I think a good photographer, maybe one with almost a journalistic style, is really important. It captures those memories, and keeps than tangible.

Definitely take your time with wedding planning! There are so many decisions to make and you don't want to feel rushed or stressed - besides, as you said, you've been together 13 years and have a really strong relationship and you don't need a certificate or a ceremony to affirm/validate that love 💕 Definitely make the wedding your own - Ellen: if you want to show Ryan your dress you can! You don't have to adhere to society's traditions ☺️ If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing to make the wedding more accessible (for Ryan)? Second, I have a question!
I have a rare disease that has taken my hearing in my right ear completely and it’s about 50-60% gone in my left ear. My right ear went in less than 2 months. I dove DEEP into learning ASL so I could communicate with my husband and kids, but they don’t really have an interest in learning it. I’m trying to not let it hurt my feelings because they don’t truly understand that I’m deaf in one ear and about to be deaf in the other ear because I’ve been hearing all my kids life up until this point. So I’m trying hard to not get hurt feelings but I’m human and it does hurt.
Here’s my question, how should I try to persuade them to learn ASL for me? Or should I even bother?
Ryan, how would you bring it up to Ellen if she didn’t show any interest in learning for you?

Cool 😊. Just came across this channel from my CZcams feed.
I recently found your channel and wanted to congratulate you on your engagement! At the time, my fiance and I went together to choose everything except my wedding dress as we were on a pretty tight budget. We wanted goid pictures, so that was the biggest expense for us, but I am so glad we did. Too bad it was in the days before digital pics!! My husband is a music teacher and plays/teaches piano. He went with a comfort band so it wouldn't cut into his fingers. He also builds lots of models and works with his hands a lot. He did not want to have to always take his ring off (he would lose it), and we couldn't afford two sets of rings. He would forget to change it out anyway...😂. The inside of the ring is shaped differently, and he has been wearing it for almost 32 years now. He was really glad we spent a little extra for it. Take your time planning. Do what will special for you and your family. We chose to light a unity candle to symbolize the joining of our two families. You two are aware of the other's feeling so this will be a special day for both of you. I like that you are using your channel to educate and are more mature and calm compared to others out there. I like that you are personable and let us in on a few things in your personal life too. I wish you all the best!❤

Ryan, Maybe think of getting a mix of metals to wear when you aren't working. If you work with your hands, maybe think about getting a band that bends with your hands-im not sure of the material, but they make them specifically for men who use their hands a lot
I made my wedding dress so my husband saw it every day while I worked on it! It added to the memories. I wish I hadn’t taken a year to plan though, we had a really simple wedding and after planning for that long and it being over quick it felt like - ugh, we could have planned that all within a few months and been married sooner. Ah well! Haha. Been married 13 years now ❤. Nice to get your guys’s updates!
Oh and tip if you don’t already know about em!! Silicone wedding bands! Of course get your actual wedding band but Ryan a silicone for when you’re working would be really good (safe) and they’re comfortable!
I wanted to have a tattoo artist at our wedding ceremony to tattoo rings but my husband chickened out 😂

This is exactly how my husband and I were, we were engaged for 3 years and ended up having a small wedding. We are both introverted and just didn’t like the idea of being in the spotlight lol 😂 My husband got a mixed white and gold band and loved it…he just lost it after 10 years 😢 he’s so bummed. I don’t like having things on my hands and often times don’t wear my rings so just get what you want!! At the ended of the day you’re making a promise to each other in your own way and your family is celebrating. Nothing more. Have fun, it’s just one day amongst an ocean together. ❤

I agree-- take your time rather than in a hurry. Being in a rush is a red flag and it might not be successful in the end. Happy to hear that you guys are doing fine! 🤟
Oh yeah, I had some experience in wearing a ring with some diamonds, but the diamonds fell off when I worked really rough with my hands. If you plan to get one, you might have to put the ring aside before going to do some work by hand. It's kind of pain in the butt if you have to set it aside and then forget to take it back on your finger. 🤦♀

Look into getting a “comfort fit” band for your ring. Best thing ever so comfortable to wear. I bought one for my work wedding ring as a nurse and wear it more than my diamond one.
I'm also wedding planning, so I know it can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. I also feel the same way about wanting to share my dress choice and make decisions together, but I also want it to be a surprise 😅

You don’t have to do everything that they try to convince you that you need. I would say make sure you’re comfortable and invest in a good photographer. The best tip we got was plan in a moment to just stop with each other and absorb the day. Otherwise it flies by

Very exciting time! Ryan can always get the fancy Italian style ring or Diamond ring around and then switch for simple gold band or silicone band for day to day wear and use the Italian/Diamond ring for special occasions

Awesome channel. I worked in the catering business when I was young and I have been to over 250 weddings. Less is more. Make the day simple and you will remember it so much better. Don't plan your wedding based on what you have seen in the past. Do your own thing. Have a simple ceremony and then have a really NICE sit down dinner for you and the guests, and a reasonable number, like 60 guests. You can even stand in the living room and say your vows, and have your guests stand around you. Ceremony at home can be so elegant and pretty. You and the guests will enjoy and remember the day as special. And change up the rules on prepping for the day. If you want to see each other's clothes ahead of time, that is fine. Do what you want. And some men that work with tools will get the rubber wedding band to wear while working, you can get them at any hardware store, then wear the good ring the rest of the time when not working. Emphasis on easy for you two, pretty for the guests to witness, and then sit down and enjoy good food and fellowship. Huge fancy weddings are chaotic and no one remembers much about the event. Less is more. Happy wishes for your life together. You are both awesome.

I would suggest thinking about “what kind of day” do you want? The ceremony is only about 15-20 minutes. The rest of the time is the “party” and time with family and friends. And taking pictures. Yes you only do this once, so to speak, so yes you want it to be special. So what kind of atmosphere do you tend to like? Formal, casual, dancing, conversing, a formal meal or buffet and casual style meal? Go by what you tend to like already, if you’ve ever planned a birthday party, look at that to see what you tend to like…. If you can answer those questions, next is to choose the things that fit that atmosphere and setting. There are way too many choices out there, and deciding on atmosphere will help narrow down the choices. Another question is how big a wedding do you want and what can you afford. You could have a general reception with just “cake and punch” and have only a family dinner afterward, or a meal for everyone. 30 people or 100? Another idea I’m just throwing out is to just do a civil wedding at the nearby courthouse with close family only, and then have a post-wedding party after. Or have a wedding package thing at a Las Vegas chapel with as many guests as you want (they have a price range from very cheap, all the way up to very expensive). Some hotels and places in “wine country” have wedding packages too. That is assuming you are in California.
Anyway, just throwing out ideas…. I think if you decide the atmosphere and type of wedding you actually want, the other choices that fit your choice in that, will fall into place. Even color- what is your favorite color? Etc Make lists and put picture ideas on the page… seeing might help.
Congratulations on your enagement. Take the time to plan your wedding, make it your own. This is a special time in your lives, enjoy it. Ellen your ring is beautiful, it once belonged to your grandmother, right? A diamond wedding band would look great with it. Ryan, whatever style of ring decide will be perfect for you. Perhaps while you're working, you could remove it. I fully understand that you would want to wear the ring all the time, but if your ring gets caught on something, you could damage the ring or worse, your finger/hand. Not to be a downer, just something to think about. You guys look great by the way, engagment life certainly agrees with you! Java is so cute 💕

Just a reminder to anyone who needs to hear this: It's also ok to NOT stick to wedding traditions, and just do what feels comfortable for you as a couple. You want to choose a dress together with your partner! Go for it!
You don't want to make a lot of detailed decisions about things that perhaps don't matter much to you? Delegate and focus on what you care about (maybe it's the music, and not the decoration, etc).

You can take your time in wedding process but also just don't stress about it. The wedding EXPO is of course full of vendors who want to make you feel like you need this and that for the wedding to be nice. Truthfully you only need place, date, dress, ring, invitations and preferably catering and photographer. Everything else is nice extra 😃 Most important thing in wedding is that you publicly (and in front of God if you believe in Him) promise to be together forever ❤️ Or for you it sounds it's about uniting families. That doesn't need anything fancy, they are happy to just be there for you. Of course, if you want to go crazy and have whole nine yards of stuff in your wedding, go for it! Just don't feel pressured to do it because of society ❤️
Me and my now husband got engaged after 10 years together and we got married 7 years after that. We finally married last Aug. We felt the same, that we were happy with where our relationship was and didn't feel rushed into getting married. 🥰
