Hi Dr. Lee! I just took my CNA skills exam this weekend and passed because of you!! I finished my CNA course in March 2020 when Covid had just began but when everything shut down they kept postponing and cancelling our state exams over the summer. I never got licensed because of the craziness covid caused and I never went back to take my state exam until this past weekend because my two year mark was about to expire. Unfortunately, the system I learned from was pearson and they no longer test based off of what I had learned. I had to relearn the skills based off of prometrics standards and a friend referred me to your videos because she went through the same thing. I just wanted to say thank you for providing a valuable resource for people wanting to become a CNA!!

But I never tested just didn’t feel my school prepared me enough so I put it off for way to long and now a year and months later I’m here trying to learn the prometric guidelines which was a set back because most CZcams Cna videos are under Pearson vue and then I came across yours and one more persons CZcams channel and I have just been binge watching these videos in hopes of being more than ready to take my skills test but you do such an awesome job even better then the actual school I went to and I feel I can pass my skills test now just by watching these videos. • @txcnaskills2599
      @txcnaskills2599  Před 3 lety +10

Hello Helena, remember the skill is to empty and measure the urine output. Therefore, we are not graded on cleaning the drainage tube. When taking a state test, always follow the guidelines set by the state. Prometric doesn't tell us to use alcohol with this skill.
Empty contents of resident’s urinary drainage bag, and measure and record urine output on an Intake and Output (I&O) form
4 Set graduate or bedpan on barrier placed on floor and empty full contents of drainage bag into the graduate or bedpan?
5 Empty contents of urinary drainage bag without contaminating drainage tube (e.g., touching container) and close and protect drain (e.g.,
clamp and tuck drain into pocket) after emptying drainage bag?
6 Set graduate on flat surface protected with barrier to read, obtaining measurement by reading graduate at eye level, and if urine
poured into graduate from a bedpan, complete task over toilet pouring the full amount of urine into the graduate?
7 Empty urine in graduate into toilet after measuring, rinse and dry container, pouring rinse water into toilet?
8 Record output with clean hands?
In a real environment I will clean the drainage bag tubing, BUT this is a testing environment with basic requirements.
      I hope this helps.

Hello Julie, You are speaking of a Pearson Vue Rule. These skills are using Prometric guidelines. So, if you are testing under Prometric there is NO mention of a designated dirty area. Prometric requires us to put it back in the bottom three drawer chest that we got it from. Remember Prometric skills are slightly different from Pearson Vue.

The wearing of gloves is required when we start emptying the urine: handling the urinary drainage bag, graduate, or any urine-filled container.
      Does the candidate:
1 Greet resident, address by name, and introduce self? (IC)
2 Provide explanations to resident about care before beginning and during care? (IC)

    • @txcnaskills2599

Hello, When taking the state exam, we follow Prometric guidelines as much as possible. Therefore, the skills checklist does not state the student should not put the towel on a counter.
To answer your question, the floor is dirty. Once the dirty towel is placed on the counter, the counter becomes dirty. The student is NOT graded on cleaning the counter.
Please remember that a student is timed to complete 5 skills. The student needs to follow the skills checklist. We can always add to the skill which can make the student run out of time during the exam.

      Hello Vinodini,
If you raise the bed, you must lower it before leaving the bedside.
I don't teach my students to raise the full bed, because many will get nervous and forget to lower the bed. This behavior is an automatic fail. Raising and lowering the full bed is NOT a requirement for any of the skills.
I teach my students to leave the full bed alone for the 30-40 minutes of the skill exam. The student can raise the bed after they are certified. Let's not add extra steps that are not needed during the testing. This is how I teach my students.

I didn't hear you saying I should call the valuator to come and confirm if the amount of urine is similar to mine....
Am I supposed to tell him or her to check....
And before giving the valuator the sheet of what have recorded, should I wash my hands again even though I washed before recording?

    • @txcnaskills2599
      @txcnaskills2599  Před 3 měsíci

Hello, you posted good questions. You should NOT ask the evaluator to look at the measuring container. Remember, the evaluator put the urine into the drainage bag. Therefore, the evaluator already knows the amount of urine in the drainage bag.
Secondly, you DON'T have to wash your hands before giving the evaluator the documentation sheet.

Hello Liya, If you review the Prometric skills guidelines for this skill, the mention of alcohol is NEVER listed. Is this something you read somewhere?

      Hello Martha,
Remember we have rinsed the container and dried it before placing it in bedside area. Putting the supplies up is a requirement from Prometric when testing. This is listed in the Prometric Clinical Skills Checklist. Please review this document because not putting the container will count against you when testing.
