I was stalked 30+ years ago. Even though that terrifying chapter of my life is long over, I can easily recall the paralyzing fear and paranoia it caused within me. I felt it a little again watching this video. I'm so glad you are taking your safety seriously. One of the many things I appreciate about your channel is that eschews controversy. Seven years ago, a guy stalked me in a store and even by way of vehicle. Thank God I was able to shake him off, but I was so scared I didn't leave my apartment for three days. I moved back to where I was more familiar too. I'm so happy you were able to kinda sort that out but I know it must still be a bit debilitating. This made me go back to your video from a year ago entitled "Can I Keep Doing This?" The end with the tears and what you said makes me think that's when it started or you were struggling. I am so sorry you had to and maybe still have to deal with that. Be safe, and yes... we don't need to know "everything". I know when I get more videos and start traveling, I will be very careful with what I share. ❤

I agree that having a space that feels homey and pleasing helps make it easier! I think that’s why I like sharing what has worked for me so much-in hopes it’ll help someone else be able to dream about how to make their own space more comfortable wherever they are.
All of this is perfectly sensible & understandable. People give out more information than they realise. I have a passionate curiosity for maps & geography and I’m a bit of a compulsive geolocator - nothing sinister, just a bit aspy, & I was frankly incredibly disturbed that I was able to find one creator’s home address with barely any effort. I found out waaay more than I was wanting to know - this young woman’s bedroom faces onto a street and she ought to be horrified that she’s inadvertently advertised which one it is. I’m a harmless middle aged woman in Australia, but if I can find people, anyone can. All this to say, yes, please be vigilant! Your safety always has to be your top priority. And whatever you do, NEVER show a screenshot of Google maps (etc) taken while you were at home if you have location enabled!! ❤❤ Take care Dee.
All very great reasons and tips. I’ve learned a great deal from you. I’ll never be a full timer and definitely won’t have a CZcams channel, I appreciate tagging along on the adventures of others. My beautiful van was destroyed in a fire and I think I’ll likely grieve for that van forever. Life goes on and I’ll figure something out. Happy and safe travels always

Oh gosh Dee, I’m so very sorry you had that experience. I enjoy your videos and was very glad when you decided to keep your channel going. I’m often in my van for months and months, I never share my whereabouts on social media, I only share with my significant other, sister, and close nomad friends. Partly to keep my sticks and bricks home safe, and partly to keep myself safe 🤩. And yes, folks on the road do really look out for each other, it’s quite lovely! I can totally understand Dee where you’re coming from and I also under your need safety and protection. For about the last four years I have been wanting to get a box truck and build it out for both to living in and for work! I am a very people person but there are times when I need time for my self, I am a reader and a part time college student. I wish you the best and be safe. You don’t owe anybody any explanation’s little lady. Always take your safety seriously. I believe like you, 99% of people are genuinely good people. But that still leaves 1% who are bad and 1% of our population is a lot of people. I’m a retired police officer, and also have a daughter. I’m sure your dad would’ve loved to have tracked the stalker down and relieved him of his stalking tendencies lol. If anybody ever tried to hurt my daughter, I’d have no problem smiling in my mugshot. Your channel has been one of my favorites since I started the vanlife dreaming and it’s because you’re real, and your videos are very informative. I saw you a while back on I-80 but I didn’t want to approach you because I didn’t want to make you feel uneasy or anything. You just talked about keeping some of your favorite places a secret, that’s a great idea because if you let everyone know, others might trash the place. There’s just people out there that ruin it for everyone. You just enjoy your travels and don’t worry about keeping your private life private. We’re here for the vanlife content and ideas. I’m a private person myself, so I get it. Happy trails ma’am.

I literally thought you were 15 years younger than you stated. I always like the tips you share. Which as you said, is what your channel is about. We have the exact same van, and I’m still in awe how much room you’ve squeezed out of your transit connect!

Sadly, the way humanity has gone, you absolutely always first and foremost keep your safety and well being first. Period. I always enjoy learning from your tips, hints and ideas. By the way, those pita veggie Sammie’s looked delicious 😃 A lot of other creators I’ve seen will give specific dates, locales and times of when and where. Then post about negative situations happening. One cannot be to careful anymore. I don’t blame you a bit on the big meets and greets, just not my wife and myself thing. We had tried, but didn’t enjoy the seemingly endless prying questions. So we just avoid those situations. For the folks that enjoy that atmosphere, go mingle and enjoy to hearts content. In my opinion your channel is tops. I don’t have a CZcams channel yet I don’t ever disclose where my camping spots are because a friend tells a friend and so on and pretty soon I can’t camp there. Glad the issue got resolved. Happy trails girl.

Thanks for creating this video. I didn’t think about some of the safety issues you brought up, especially vanlife gatherings. A woman youtuber I follow posts her videos weeks behind but she was in a lot of other people’s videos who posts days behind so we knew exactly where she was in real time. That’s scary. Someone said one of the problems with being on CZcams is people can gain the notoriety of a famous person but they don’t have the security of a famous person. That’s a real problem for CZcamsrs, especially women CZcamsrs, and something we all need to think about. Glad that situation has been handled and that you’re safe. Take care. ❤
First time seeing your channel. Think I'll subscribe and check it out. I like the tip of "I don't tell you where I am". I'm just a camper, not a van lifer. I have one Park that I love to stay at often. Quiet, not many people. Not well known. I was talking to the Park Director about that one day. I mentioned that to her. She replied, "Don't tell anyone, so we can keep this peaceful place as our little secret place". I thought of that when you mentioned it. When people ask me where I go, I tell then, "Oh, it's just a little place in the Southern part of the State (Ohio)".
Hi Dee, I watch your channel sometimes. I now will actually subscribe. This is part of van life, but also more importantly life in general. I grew up and lived in the US until I was 38 years old. Almost every man I broke up with stalked me. I had to get a restraining order a couple of times. I thought it was me I was not seeing signs. Then I moved to Europe and while it isn't perfect here, I never had that problem again. It made me feel better knowing there was nothing wrong with me. This video can be triggering, and yes some women will hear it and be afraid. But ladies I wasn't doing van life when I was stalked. Think about it, if you are being stalked and live in a van you can move the van. In a house if the stalker knows where you live you feel trapped and scared, I know. The sad part is Dee not feeling safe or able to go to events. Good informative video Dee, stay safe.

Your channel is one of the most informative that I have found about all things van life. It doesn't need to include personal details or locations. It's pretty perfect just as you choose to present it! I am SO glad someone finally stated the obvious...if we find a place we love as it is, don't give details about where it is. It really is true, a place can be loved to death. 35 years ago, I found a most amazing place. So many people loved this place and told others, "you have to go there", today, it does not even remotely resemble the place I once treasured. Once it was "discovered" what was so very special about it changed completely. The same can be said about van life in general, but that genie is out of the botte now and we can't put her back. LOL!

I'm so glad you have resolved your stalker situation. It only takes one to spoil it for the 99. Traveling in a group is an excellent idea for solo women. However, I suggest you get a Deloris. My aunt doesn't play this BS with stalkers. Every girl needs an Aunt Deloris by her side. Never allow a man to get close enough to touch you. Even a small man can easily overpower a woman. You must even score, especially if you are always traveling alone.
You need to be safe, so I completely understand why you don't tell people online where you are at any given moment. PLUS, it's not necessary for anyone to know where you are. I'm from NYC (originally), I'm very private and I'm very aware of my surroundings.
I understand everything you have told and for that I am happy that you do not tell. There are strange people on the world out there and I have a few in town where I live drive by slow often to see if I am out on my front porch, my favorite place besides the woods. I make sure to have my dog with me and he is over 100 pounds and a Great Pyrenees and would eat someone who came too close to me. I am a widow for the past 16 years and there are people who like to take advantage of that but they know I have a aggressive dog who will not allow them even on my front porch and my house is super safe as there are cameras everywhere. When I finally get on the road in my Suburu Outback it will be covered with cameras too and safety items. My health should be better by May or June to start my traveling. I will start only in Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee as there are so many wonderful places there to visit I have not been to since I was a child. Stay safe and be healthy and happy. I passed you on an Illinois hwy one time and just beeped beeped as I drove past. There are some very crazy people out there and I do not want to be a part of them either. Have a fantastic weekend!

Hi Dee, yes it is very important not to let people know where you are at any given time, except some close friends or relatives that need to know your exact location for safety sake. Except if you have a family like mine that does not know how to be quiet. But I do let 2 of my close friends know where I am as I am traveling. I am only part time on the road but sincerely would love to be full time. I have learned a lot from your channel and quite a few others. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I was stalked in college in 90s from someone waiting in line for U2 tickets. Found out where I lived just from knowing my college (car sticker) and my name (on the queue list). Took getting police involved as well (although no laws then like like to help them preventatively protect you). And this was before social media! To this day I don’t let friends post me on their social media (rarely if so, never with a location and only after I’ve left that location). Thx for sharing your learning and journey. 😊❤ So, you’re doing it right. ❤ Listen to your intuition. Stay smart. No one’s biz where you are. 😀 Meetups are fine for patreon members (can trace them through card if need be). Or, part of a larger event.

And when I arrive somewhere and there are other people there, I always ask them to keep an eye on me, and if necessary, that I can ask them for help.And then I can share the place.Just like you, my family knows where I am, so I am never really alone.And I always follow my feelings.And I have a whistle within reach.You are lucky in the USA that there are so many beautiful places where you can go and free to stay or where it is beautifully landscaped you can enjoy.In Holland this is not allowed anymore to protect nature, because not everyone handled it carefully, it is now prohibited. I was referring to being careful in what you discuss on your channel in fear that someone might follow you and or come where you are at - that is scary, living in fear. That is why I stated ‘who can live like that’ fear of someone getting to your location - which I find totally unacceptable and understand what you stated. Wow I find it scary!
Ahhh. Thank you for clarifying. It is scary, but I decided long ago not to let fear rule my life…or anyone who wants to instill fear by their behavior. It was definitely unsettling and I had to put new safeguards in place. But the majority of time it is wonderful!!!

Seven years ago, a guy stalked me in a store and even by way of vehicle. Thank God I was able to shake him off, but I was so scared I didn't leave my apartment for three days. I moved back to where I was more familiar too. I'm so happy you were able to kinda sort that out but I know it must still be a bit debilitating. This made me go back to your video from a year ago entitled "Can I Keep Doing This?" The end with the tears and what you said makes me think that's when it started or you were struggling. I am so sorry you had to and maybe still have to deal with that. Be safe, and yes... we don't need to know "everything". I know when I get more videos and start traveling, I will be very careful with what I share. ❤

I agree that having a space that feels homey and pleasing helps make it easier! I think that’s why I like sharing what has worked for me so much-in hopes it’ll help someone else be able to dream about how to make their own space more comfortable wherever they are.
All of this is perfectly sensible & understandable. People give out more information than they realise. I have a passionate curiosity for maps & geography and I’m a bit of a compulsive geolocator - nothing sinister, just a bit aspy, & I was frankly incredibly disturbed that I was able to find one creator’s home address with barely any effort. I found out waaay more than I was wanting to know - this young woman’s bedroom faces onto a street and she ought to be horrified that she’s inadvertently advertised which one it is. I’m a harmless middle aged woman in Australia, but if I can find people, anyone can.
All this to say, yes, please be vigilant! Your safety always has to be your top priority. And whatever you do, NEVER show a screenshot of Google maps (etc) taken while you were at home if you have location enabled!! ❤❤ Take care Dee.

I can totally understand Dee where you’re coming from and I also under your need safety and protection. For about the last four years I have been wanting to get a box truck and build it out for both to living in and for work! I am a very people person but there are times when I need time for my self, I am a reader and a part time college student. I wish you the best and be safe. I wanted to create a you tube channel but I do not my photo all over the internet! I wanted to go places and do research and not be interrupted when doing research!

You don’t owe anybody any explanation’s little lady. Always take your safety seriously. I believe like you, 99% of people are genuinely good people. But that still leaves 1% who are bad and 1% of our population is a lot of people. I’m a retired police officer, and also have a daughter. I’m sure your dad would’ve loved to have tracked the stalker down and relieved him of his stalking tendencies lol. If anybody ever tried to hurt my daughter, I’d have no problem smiling in my mugshot. Your channel has been one of my favorites since I started the vanlife dreaming and it’s because you’re real, and your videos are very informative. I saw you a while back on I-80 but I didn’t want to approach you because I didn’t want to make you feel uneasy or anything. You just talked about keeping some of your favorite places a secret, that’s a great idea because if you let everyone know, others might trash the place. There’s just people out there that ruin it for everyone. You just enjoy your travels and don’t worry about keeping your private life private. We’re here for the vanlife content and ideas. I’m a private person myself, so I get it. Happy trails ma’am.

Then post about negative situations happening.
One cannot be to careful anymore.
I don’t blame you a bit on the big meets and greets, just not my wife and myself thing. We had tried, but didn’t enjoy the seemingly endless prying questions. So we just avoid those situations.
For the folks that enjoy that atmosphere, go mingle and enjoy to hearts content.
In my opinion your channel is tops.
No drama, no whining, no complaining, no hinting about wanting donations, etc.
Please always just be you Ms Dee, that’s why we all enjoy your videos so much❤️

Thanks for creating this video. I didn’t think about some of the safety issues you brought up, especially vanlife gatherings. A woman youtuber I follow posts her videos weeks behind but she was in a lot of other people’s videos who posts days behind so we knew exactly where she was in real time. That’s scary. Someone said one of the problems with being on CZcams is people can gain the notoriety of a famous person but they don’t have the security of a famous person. That’s a real problem for CZcamsrs, especially women CZcamsrs, and something we all need to think about.

First time seeing your channel. Think I'll subscribe and check it out. I like the tip of "I don't tell you where I am". I'm just a camper, not a van lifer. I have one Park that I love to stay at often. Quiet, not many people. Not well known. I was talking to the Park Director about that one day. I mentioned that to her. She replied, "Don't tell anyone, so we can keep this peaceful place as our little secret place". I thought of that when you mentioned it. When people ask me where I go, I tell then, "Oh, it's just a little place in the Southern part of the State (Ohio)".

Hi Dee, I watch your channel sometimes. I now will actually subscribe. This is part of van life, but also more importantly life in general. I grew up and lived in the US until I was 38 years old. Almost every man I broke up with stalked me. I had to get a restraining order a couple of times. I thought it was me I was not seeing signs. Then I moved to Europe and while it isn't perfect here, I never had that problem again. It made me feel better knowing there was nothing wrong with me. This video can be triggering, and yes some women will hear it and be afraid. But ladies I wasn't doing van life when I was stalked. Think about it, if you are being stalked and live in a van you can move the van. In a house if the stalker knows where you live you feel trapped and scared, I know. The sad part is Dee not feeling safe or able to go to events. Good informative video Dee, stay safe.

Your channel is one of the most informative that I have found about all things van life. It doesn't need to include personal details or locations. It's pretty perfect just as you choose to present it! I am SO glad someone finally stated the obvious...if we find a place we love as it is, don't give details about where it is. It really is true, a place can be loved to death. 35 years ago, I found a most amazing place. So many people loved this place and told others, "you have to go there", today, it does not even remotely resemble the place I once treasured. Once it was "discovered" what was so very special about it changed completely. The same can be said about van life in general, but that genie is out of the botte now and we can't put her back. LOL!

I'm so glad you have resolved your stalker situation. It only takes one to spoil it for the 99. Traveling in a group is an excellent idea for solo women. However, I suggest you get a Deloris. My aunt doesn't play this BS with stalkers. Every girl needs an Aunt Deloris by her side. Never allow a man to get close enough to touch you. Even a small man can easily overpower a woman. You must even score, especially if you are always traveling alone.

You need to be safe, so I completely understand why you don't tell people online where you are at any given moment. PLUS, it's not necessary for anyone to know where you are. I'm from NYC (originally), I'm very private and I'm very aware of my surroundings.

I understand everything you have told and for that I am happy that you do not tell. There are strange people on the world out there and I have a few in town where I live drive by slow often to see if I am out on my front porch, my favorite place besides the woods. I make sure to have my dog with me and he is over 100 pounds and a Great Pyrenees and would eat someone who came too close to me. I am a widow for the past 16 years and there are people who like to take advantage of that but they know I have a aggressive dog who will not allow them even on my front porch and my house is super safe as there are cameras everywhere. When I finally get on the road in my Suburu Outback it will be covered with cameras too and safety items. My health should be better by May or June to start my traveling. I will start only in Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee as there are so many wonderful places there to visit I have not been to since I was a child. Stay safe and be healthy and happy. I passed you on an Illinois hwy one time and just beeped beeped as I drove past. There are some very crazy people out there and I do not want to be a part of them either. Have a fantastic weekend!

It is very important to be as discreet as possible with where you are in real time, unfortunately these days there are too many people with poor mental health. continue to take all necessary precautions to keep yourself safe.

Hi Dee, yes it is very important not to let people know where you are at any given time, except some close friends or relatives that need to know your exact location for safety sake. Except if you have a family like mine that does not know how to be quiet. But I do let 2 of my close friends know where I am as I am traveling. I am only part time on the road but sincerely would love to be full time. I have learned a lot from your channel and quite a few others. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I was stalked in college in 90s from someone waiting in line for U2 tickets. Found out where I lived just from knowing my college (car sticker) and my name (on the queue list). Took getting police involved as well (although no laws then like like to help them preventatively protect you). And this was before social media!
To this day I don’t let friends post me on their social media (rarely if so, never with a location and only after I’ve left that location).

You have good old common sense and in todays life one on the road needs it, stay safe and I agree there is no reason to tell everyone where you go or stay, for your safety and privacy

And when I arrive somewhere and there are other people there, I always ask them to keep an eye on me, and if necessary, that I can ask them for help.And then I can share the place.Just like you, my family knows where I am, so I am never really alone.And I always follow my feelings.And I have a whistle within reach.You are lucky in the USA that there are so many beautiful places where you can go and free to stay or where it is beautifully landscaped you can enjoy.In Holland this is not allowed anymore to protect nature, because not everyone handled it carefully, it is now prohibited.

I was referring to being careful in what you discuss on your channel in fear that someone might follow you and or come where you are at - that is scary, living in fear. That is why I stated ‘who can live like that’ fear of someone getting to your location - which I find totally unacceptable and understand what you stated. Wow I find it scary!
Ahhh. Thank you for clarifying. It is scary, but I decided long ago not to let fear rule my life…or anyone who wants to instill fear by their behavior. It was definitely unsettling and I had to put new safeguards in place. But the majority of time it is wonderful!!!
