    My neighbor who is a mechanic changed my headlight switch without disconnecting the battery. Disconnecting the battery for awhile may reset the computer back to factory setting and have to learn everything all over again. He just loosen the two screws that holds the airbag in place and just disconnected the two wires from the air bag and put the airbag away with no problem. They say that if you don't disconnect the the battery before removing the airbag, the airbag might blow up on your face. Well to my surprise it didn't and he still had no problem putting it back in again with battery still hooked up.

      Thats an extremely dangerous practice, yes 99% of the time the airbag will not deploy as its designed with multiple fail safes. However if the car had a sudden malfunction or similar with the battery connected the airbag could deploy and cause serious injury. Generally speaking in the Toyota Vitz / Yaris the computer will re-learn things fairly quick, its not like a European vehicles with multiple computers and control protocols.

    Best video so far on this, going to try it tomorrow - my misses Yaris blinker keeps going off after its been flicked on - the stalk stays down but indicator goes off, slight touching the stalk starts it again. Getting a new stalk and fit as per the above. May get a new clock

    Thanks. I replaced it with your guide. Saved lots of money. However do I need to still send it to a mechanic for a reset? Or how will I know if it needs one and the mechanic just wants to score money?

    • @AutoBuddynz
      @AutoBuddynz  Před 2 lety

      No reset should be needed if your using the same clock spring and followed this video. If you have an airbag light on or something similar then you will have to take it into a workshop. Are any warning lights on? Or is everything operating as normal?

    Helpful video... Hey man so Do toyotas use the same car switches like a Toyota Runx or corolla switch fit into a Toyota Yaris... Or it's only yaris parts?

    • @AutoBuddynz
      @AutoBuddynz  Před 3 lety

      Thank you. From memory they are different, due to auto lights etc. However best to check with Toyota. This sort of switch is common across, the Toyota Yaris, Vitz, Passo, and other small hatchbacks of that Era from Toyota.

    Does cleaning the contact points with sand paper solve the problem because my park light switch doesn't work while indicators, high and low beam work. Should I replace the complete switch or clean the contact points?

    • @AutoBuddynz
      @AutoBuddynz  Před 3 lety +1

      This is an easy step to try first, confirming that both your rear and front park lights are not working. If it still does not work check your fuses and go from there.

    My stalk has the indicator and wiper for a Right Hand drive cos we got it from Japan. It’s been changed to a left hand drive. Can I buy a LHD stalk to replace it ? Having the indicators on the right is sometimes confusing and I end up activating wipers instead.

    • @AutoBuddynz
      @AutoBuddynz  Před 2 lety +1

      I don't see why not, as long as the connectors are the same it should work. The loom insulation might need to be cut open otherwise it might be to short.
