    Some other recommendations: Learning the Tarot by Bunning. This is the book I started with in 2004 - highly advised.
    Another is very recent : WTF is Tarot by Bakara Winter. Very modern, the F word does appear but it's very approachable tone.
    The absolute best book to learn reading for yourself is Tarot for Yourself by Mary Greer - hands down the most instructive book for self reading I've seen.
    For TdM three essential books are The Open Reading by Yoav Ben Dov (newer edition is called The Marseille Tarot revealed).
    Marseille Tarot by Camelia Elias - non-esoteric fortune telling style reading. Also, Untold Tarot by Caitlin Matthews - good for pip decks as well. These three books are really good for learning to read intuitively.
    Some beginners prefer the TdM - it is the 3rd tarot system ( of four) so I believe you need to include TdM books as well.

      Yes!!! To be honest, in my original draft, it didn’t have the Creative Tarot book but had the Marseilles Tarot revealed - but after a lot of thinking, I exchanged them. You‘ve made me realize that maybe I shouldn’t exchanged them and should’ve just mentioned BOTH! Thanks for your other recommendations!!! I’ve heard so many good things about these but I’ve not read them yet - fingers crossed I’ll have the ability to. I’m going to pin your comment for now so people can see these recommended books on top of those I’ve mentioned ❤️❤️🙏🏼

    I am in LOVE with Holistic Tarot because of both its thorough academic approach and its meticulous index. I can quickly access exactly what I'm looking for in that book and I wish that were the case with more reference books.

      A very thoughtful list. My library has The Creative Tarot and for some reason, I've never read it! Totally going to check it out now.
      I really like your ideas about developing a conversation with your decks. That is an important step I feel that I am relearning all the time. If I can't communicate with a deck, our readings don't exist with that deck. The type of reading changes not only with your development as a reader, but with your ability to communicate with the decks you use. 🤔

    • @BoyDiviner
      @BoyDiviner  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you Mixtress Rae ❤️❤️🙏🏼 I also like the index in the Holistic Tarot it needs to be used that way hahahaha and oh my you need to read the Creative Tarot or at least check out some of her entries she’s so wry hahaha.
      Yes - understanding a deck’s language or at least the rough language of how the divine/whatever wants to communicate with you is so important. To me it’s the basis of what we do and people often skip to read for others ASAP which I’m not a big fan of! But to each his own, it’s all a journey. Thanks for empathizing with me my friend 🙆🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️

    Basically I would recommend any book by Mary K. Greer. Especially her book about reversals. It's a really excellent reference book for tarot meanings from different perspective. I also enjoyed Melissa Cynova's Kitchen Table Tarot - that's a really really simple book for beginners. She has a nice sassy, no BS writing style which I really appreciate.

    • @BoyDiviner

      Thanks Matt!!! I love Mary K Greer but I haven’t heard anything specific about her book on reversals so I really really love that you recommended that and will check that one out. I didn’t enjoy Kitchen Table Tarot and it was one of the first tarot books I got which turned me off oops but I think it can be pretty polarizing because I’ve also heard how much others enjoy it like yourself ❤️❤️🙏🏼 I appreciate your comment my friend

    The Easiest Way to Learn Tarot Ever was the first book I bought myself. I had got books from the library but this book started my deep dive into tarot. I have not done all the exercises but I feel it would be interesting to go back and do them now I have a better grasp on the tarot. My tarot library has expanded to include Holistic tarot, the Tarot Bible, Tarot for Your Self, Kitchen Table Tarot among others. Thanks for the video...I might need to add a few more books 😁

      BoyDiviner it funny how some books resonate with people and some don’t...Kitchen table tarot is not my favorite but it definitely gave a different perspective. A book that a lot of people recommend is 78 degrees of Wisdom...I got that from the library and just did not connect with it at all. I guess just like Tarot decks there is something out there for everyone 😄

    Hi. I like the actuality of your sharings. I just started tarot and stunned how it talked. Bought a few books like holistic tarot, and the lon milo book but havent really read it. Currently reading the Modern Tarot by Michelle Tea (very soft tarot book in a sense of not deep dive but still knowledgeable) i think similar to Creative Tarot on meanings to meanings book. Btw, did you read Tarot Wisdom by Rachel, because I’ve bought that book (in waiting to send to me), heard that is more of a good read than 98-degrees.

      Thanks for your input my friend. I couldn't get into the Modern Tarot book -- I think Michelle Tea's writing wasn't too for me. I didn't read Tarot Wisdom because I didn't enjoy 78 Degrees of Wisdom from her! I think I prefer more "concrete" books and hence, my picks in this video.

    Along with the dusty white book, I would also recommend his 2nd book to that... advanced tarot secrets. Or the black book as I call it! It's got some new exercises to try and it shows you how to get a ton out of the celtic cross spread.

    Ah there are so many good books out there... if you like Dusty‘s first book, you’d probably like his second one as well. It has some new exercises and it also teaches you to dive deep into a spread and get all the juicy bits out of it. He goes by the Celtic Cross but I feel like you could apply the methodology to any other well crafted spread. He also touches of tarot for manifestation and such. I also agreed with others here about Tarot For Yourself, it’s a staple. I’ve been meaning to pick up Correspondences and keep forgetting about it, but after hearing your thoughts on it, i have no excuse lol. I also don’t have any books by Camélia Elias, so I want to check them out too. Great recommendation, Caspar 👍🏻

    The book that helped me the most for the cars by card meanings, was actually ‘Tarot for Writers’ by Corrine Kenner. Since she’s written it for writers to use as prompts, it helped me grasp the ‘essence’ of a card instead in its parts and entirety.

      @BoyDiviner ... Ah, so on a personal level you’re suggesting the 1st book you mentioned in your video for me? I will definitely take a look at it too buy it then... it’s funny because usually Tarot readers are divided into two main categories (which is the same for artists and writers):
      1) Planners - people who obviously plan out their projects, in the Tarot world this would be someone who reads every definition, studies each card intensively, writes everything down..
      2) And those who are the total opposite of that, in the Tarot world this would be people who learn the cards on the spot, without much references, don’t really jot down anything, and learn the cards by their own interpretations.
      I would say I am smack in the middle of these two types of people because I definitely am not a planner but I also enjoy reading and having references to go by, and I wholeheartedly believe in our own intuition and our own interpretations when it comes to reading to reading tarot but one can not disregard the actual meanings of the card in the process.
      Anyway, I thought I’d put this out here because I see these two types of archetypes a lot in the pagan communities and they generally think differently from one another.

    • @BoyDiviner
      @BoyDiviner  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for your elaboration!!! Yes, I think the first book will be useful but please do your own research 😂😂 I’m definitely not an authority. I’m the same as you - I’m right there in the middle so I need to find my own way like yourself ❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼 totally can relate hahahaha
