Though I’ve noticed if you have a quick transition from defense to attack, City struggle. But I wonder why Poch can’t always tell his team to have such quick transitions. Today every move into City box seemed dangerous. Honestly, they created more open chances than City, only for their attackers to do their usual. I also can’t fail to notice that Walker is always a beast of a Right back and does well against many good attackers but seems Sterling always has a way past him

      @user-zc2sz1os3j Před 2 měsíci +1

Having your fullback invert means space on his flank for the opposition to transition into of they win the ball. Having one of your CBs do it means you get the double pivot without sacrificing that space; and considering most teams play with one CF, you're not actually sacrificing much (that is apart from the fact that CBs are not midfielders, and won't be anywhere near as useful in those positions as actual midfielders. But if you have John stones or Lisandro Martinez (even though EtH is not good enough to utilize him like this) you're good.)

Yeh with John Stones and not Akanji. JS was a midfielder himself so he is no stranger to playing in the central area. And Gundogan was as much a midfielder as possible whereas Alvarez is an out and out striker. Last season Pep utilized the players to the natural strength but now he is forcing his players out of their comfort zone just to suit his tactics.
If you take a look at Arsenal, Arteta tried to do the same thing earlier in the season, forcing Partey to play IRB and Havertz as 1 to 1 replacement to Xhaka and we knew how that went@@abhikalpshekhar

This game really is about the personal, Gundo would have played in Akanji place today, and he has the abilty to break through pressing lines. Foden would have been playing the 10 role instead of Alvarez as foden has much comfort in tight spaces turning past defenders, and Mahrez would have been on the RW, rmb last season, it was Mahrez that tore chilwell apart scoring against chelsea, and assisting as well. I think this season is still transitioning for Pep and he needs a wirtz or kimmich type player to be a double pivot with rodri.

Chelsea have good quality players, they excel especially on the counter with Sterling and Jackson (I know he gets ripped into as a finisher but as a player in the channels with his dribbling, hold up and passing, he's good at that). They are poor when it comes to facing a low block team hence why they're struggling in the league. Apart from Enzo they don't really have much to unlock a low block that keep the spaces tight. But pit them against attacking teams like City, Liverpool, Arsenal who will inevitably leave more space at the back, they come to life.

Pep probably underestimated Chelsea and thought City would have all the territory. Otherwise why not play Stones or Bernando from the start. He thought that they will probably be camped in Chelsea's half most of the time so have as many attack minded players as possible to gain the edge. Alvarez in midfield is not the thought of a man that thought Chelsea would do damage. Unless it's injury related or load management, one of Stones of Silva should have started.

Pep's extra pass tactics, Poch used the time while defending, Chelsea within those extra passes of city solidifies their defence back in line. Those extra pass gave city possession but didn't gave the chance to counter. Doku was only way up for city for quick counter but his passing and vision is not that good, for that Grealish is needed as he has good ability to provide low cross. Haaland is good in his feet rather his head. He missed a lot of headers. The way Chelsea broke city's defence through quick counter by gusto and sterling from the wings and created many good chances. Chelsea could have gone forward just Ederson did very good goalkeeping to save city. I am a city fan but I really appreciate how Chelsea stopped city am also sad city couldn't win.

Poch switched to a back 5 cause city starting to have more men in the final third after the introduction of bernardo silva. But that is where the problem started. He had a choice mate, he could have brought in Either of Mudryk or Madueke to press city’s high line and hit them on counters when we get the chance! That’s one of Poch’s biggest flaws as a manger, he’s not one of the best tactically, if you want to defend against city after scoring them, and you want to do that well, you have to have pacey players upfront, to hit them on counters when you get the chance, that’s how we were able to win them in the UCL final!

I know most fellow Chelsea fans are fairly happy with the result but I am not one of them. With City down 0-1 and them desperate to win, we had a real opportunity to keep playing and pick them off in a counter once they committed too many bodies forward. But what does SuperCoach Pochettino do? Parks the bus with 30 minutes to play. His gutless decision handed City the opportunity to level the score and almost cost us the match - but for some good fortune in the form of uncharacteristic misses by Haaland.

Nice work bro, really like the breakdown.... From the match as explained by you, i think to beat Man City {which Chelsea almost did if not for poch) be clinical with goal chances as Chelsea could have been 3 or 2 up before HT (man city have started this pattern of conceding and pressing to win in the 2nd) and in the 2nd make like for like changes to maintain squad freshness... Knowing Chelsea can counter and score will have man City press cautiously, also cleverly drawing fouls from Man City can frustrate their play. Finally, with a high scoreline of say 3-2😂, 4-2😂 or 4-4... I enjoyed the game and thanks FMS.. Chelsea proved their point again as a team to watchout for in a season or two... Up blues (Oops😅)

A wonderful match, a pity that Pochettino first put Nkunku on the playground, when Jackson is more defensive and then added a third cb. I didn't understand his idea at all. I was hoping he would want to kill City with breaks and therefore came a lot and Mudryk/Maduke will come against high line.
As if at the last minute after the alternation of Nkunku decided to change his decision.

Parking the bus and those subs were horrible decisions. Gave time for city to keep pounding away at goal. When Chelsea played the aggressive high press and quick counters against villa they were a beast. This game was giving too much space and too much respect to city in the 2nd half. Chelsea should have won this game. A fail imo by poch.

Chelsea Should have won especially in the first half, if we had an Osimhen type of finisher. Too many goal scoring opportunities squandered in the forst half by chelsea. Interestingly PEP said it post match that it was going to be a long day for City and it actually was. In all, i think a draw was the fairest result.

ofc u can have less xG yet still win, that when it comes to brilliance of the player or sometimes just luck
but overall, xG should tell u the quality of chances that each team got
my point is, chel didn’t manage to “stop” city like the video claims, if they really did city wouldn’t manage to achieve such eventual xG
if u wanna know what “stop” is like, see the recent 3-0 leverkusen win vs bayern

City took 31 shots all together which in turn spread the xg. The more shots you take the more xg you'll have. City literally took shots from every part of the field and one managed to sneak in via deflection. But Chelsea had 9 shots total where most of them were clear cut chances.

I just don’t get it sometimes when doku runs like a headless chicken and the entire city defense more or less are pushing up all the way no wonder they will get caught in transition. Moreover the John stones Libero was used because they lacked fullbacks. So why did city not go for reinforcements in that area? Instead walker is the only actual right back and Gvardiol is a left back who’s much better in the center. It sometimes seems that pep forgets that the reason city face low blocks is because city themselves are so dangerous in transition. Now though, they are denying all the space to such extreme that players like haaland and doku, and even kdb and Foden in a way, are unable to do what they do best

Poch didn’t “stop” City; City just shot really badly. They got the ball to great goalscoring positions (City won the xG battle 2.69:1.44) and just shot poorly. That’s really all there was to it. Don’t overanalyse anything from that game. Simulate it and City would win eight or nine times out of ten.
