    In this lesson, you will learn 2 approaches for scale based soloing. Approach 1 uses a Minor Pentatonic scale to create a sadder tonal quality, while approach 2 uses a Major Pentatonic scale to create a happier tonal quality. Let’s take a look at how this song was written. First, if something sounds familiar… it’s because the chord progression is identical to “Stand By Me”.
    EP006 is written in the key of C Major with a chord progression as follows:
    1 (C) 6 (A min) 4 (F) 5 (G) 1 (C)
    This chord progression is played over 8 bars. In this first 8 bars, we will be playing the first solo. The first solo is written out of A minor Pentatonic. Our second solo (played over bars 9-17) is written out of C Major Pentatonic. Pentatonic scales are a popular approach for soloing as there are 5 pattern positions in which you can play these scales throughout the neck. In the lesson videos, we will be learning the solos (and the chord progression’s rhythm) in their entirety. If you would like to learn the music theory behind these solos (how and why they work over the chord progression), then check out our course on The Music Theory Behind Jamming (link below).

    This is awesome! I was kinda wanting to learn how to solo like David Gilmour and you nailed it! I love how you didn’t insult us with “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. The solo (and strum) pattern is fairly complex because it’s not all 8th or quarter notes, there is a substantial amount of air between the phrases. You Included basic slides, hammer-ons, and pull-offs. It’s a 20 minute beginner course, however, once the student masters this one lesson, they are half way to being a bad-ass!

    Your uke always sounds so clean compared to mine, if I don't push down ridiculously hard, mostly on the higher frets, it sounds like a buzz instead of a clean note. Is this due to the strings I'm using or the uke itself?

    • @RockClass101
      @RockClass101  Před 7 lety +1

      Hard to say without playing it. Have you played another Uke and do you experience the same problem? If not, you may need to get your ukulele set up.

      OK thanks for the help, I think I'm gonna take it into a guitar shop nearby and see what they say. Out of curiosity, how hard do you have to push your fingers on the strings when you play? It looks effortless in videos but that might just be because you're really experienced. Btw, your vids are great you deserve way more attention on youtube, your covers sound exactly like the real songs instead of a generic strumming pattern and chords like others

      Thanks Mitchell! Only as hard as needed to produce a ringing note. If you push too hard, it will cause the note to go sharp.

    Great video sir! How to solo in different positions? Do I have to know all the notes on the fretboard? I try playing solo only on one string and when I go on other string I end up playing wrong note!

      Great question Nash. I answered that questions in our new course: rockclass101.com/introduction-music-theory-jamming/. In the course, we examine both solos in complete detail and learn how and why they work from a theory perspective.
