As Democracy Now! broadcasts from COP28 in Dubai, we look at how the United Arab Emirates is using its vast oil money to buy up the rights to land in many African countries in order to sell carbon credits to major polluters, a plan that critics characterize as a new form of colonialism. "After failing to mitigate at the source," wealthy polluters now "want to, basically, buy, on the cheap, African land," says Power Shift Africa's Mohamed Adow about wealthy nations' failure to deliver on climate finance and turn to a "land grab" on the African continent. "What they're doing is actually commodifying nature," says Adow, who describes carbon credits as an "imaginary concept" amounting to "permits to pollute."

@@project6159 being born & raised in the UAE doesnt mean you are an immigrant, immigrant from where? their mothers womb? youre just bitter someone can have an opinion and have the advantage of being born and raised, in other countries you would be considered a citizen, so your opinion is subjective, also you have alot of research to do. this is not legal, its a globally despised practice and highly criticised. also africa is still a victim of exploitation, as neocolonialism took over after they gained their independence which prompted exploitation of african resources against their will. corrupt leaders cannot be easily removed as any ethical leader will get assassinated. you cannot fight money, power and greed that easily. And this indvl is right, the uae has changed drastically in recent years, gaining more state centered politics and being involved in many war crimes.
