- REPEATING NOTICE: We all know that my ID skills leave much to be desired. According to chatter on Facebook Groups, there was even some debate between the YT chat & Institute for Wildlife Studies on who was fledging when, and who's who during fly-bys. The cam chat is pretty fast-paced, with a fair amount of confusion and debate over what's actually going on from moment to moment, and we all know how THAT spirals out.
SO, in order to keep the correction experts off my back, I'm not even going to make efforts at dictating who's who on any future West End videos unless I notice that it is stated for certain by cam mods. All eaglets are now flying, and the action is nonstop. Of course, the EXCEPTIONAL cam ops are fantastic at catching 98% of the happenings, as well as some incredible soaring.
** Monday Recap **
A few specific highlights from this video:
1:29 - It's not always shrikes & mockingbirds dive-bombing out eaglets. Sometimes, it's their siblings! đ
3:01 - Determination: Take your sticks with you!
6:00 - Who dares invade my rock?
7:09 - Soaring eaglet!
9:12 - Roll call!
12:19 - Fly-bys: Eaglets here, there & everywhere!
14:37 - Parent arrives at nest with food. An eaglet soon follows.
15:45 - Birds, birds, everywhere - flying to & fro!
Koa & Treasure hatched 3/9
Sterling hatched 3/12

Wow the sibling rivalry is still very strong⊠all 3 look like females IMO. They grew beautifully thanks to the Almighty God and dedicated parents â„ïž
For juvenile eagletâs itâs the strongest an a little luck that helps them survive the first years of their lives. đŠ đȘđ»đ
Thank you for always sharing these beautiful pictures with us. Such magnificent birds â€â€â€â€
My pleasure!
Majestic beauty on display đ
What a nice playground they have. Great camera shot of the area, the sea waves are calming I think. They are fun to watch. TYâ€
I love the landscapes here - just breathtaking!
What a nice family! đ„°

Todo a su tiempo y es hermoso ver el progreso y desenvolvimento de los tres aguiluchitos đđŠ đŠ đŠ đđđŻđđ»
I havenât seen juveniles fighting quite like thisâŠ. Canât wait to hopefully see this season drag out a bit longerđ
I agree these are some âSuperâ eaglets . Extremely hardy! A blessingâŠ
Hey itâs my rock, no itâs my rock, no itâs my rock, move or iâll shove you.đź
Itâs my rock.đđđ
đđđ
I find all of this to be very therapeuticâ€
Same!
†Such a great family! â€
Catalina Island is only so big⊠I wonder how they divide territories upâŠ.. maybe thatâs what is beginning now. One rock at a timeđ
I've heard that they disperse to the mainland when they're ready to start their own journey. I suppose that's the "norm" for the island eagles off the West coast, but I do wonder how often they make their way back!
Territoriales đđŻđ
CĂłmo se llaman de acuerdo a cĂłmo nacieron y cuĂĄles son hembras y/o machosâïž đ Thanks đđ»
By birth order, their names are Koa, Treasure and Sterling. It is not certain which are male or female.
Learning about sticks and nest building?
They're definitely starting to figure things out and tinker, yes!
Are the three fed enough?
I'm sure they are. These parents are extremely present and attentive. We have been lucky enough to see some feedings since fledging, but we surely don't end up catching them all on cam view. The kids are probably also starting to learn how to catch their own fish as well - which we may not necessarily be able to witness so easily.
