- My 4 most important tips for HOW TO GET RID OF STUFF YOU DON'T NEED. The best minimalism & decluttering tips, coming up!
The premise of decluttering your home sounds simple enough. Just get rid of everything you're not using anymore. Or things that don't spark joy. But in reality, decluttering can be difficult. Identifying things to get rid of is one thing, actually making the tough decisions is another. That's why there's so many different decluttering tips and tricks out there, and videos where people show you things to get rid of. Or show you their minimalist lifestyle. And why I make all these videos about how to declutter your home.
That's because things aren't always just things. It's more complex. And in this video, I share my best minimalism tips (that I've learned after about 8 years of minimalist living) for how to get rid of stuff you dont need anymore.
Lots of love,
🌼 Vera

I believe in keeping things I use
regularly and like. This Joy story
from Marie Kondo is a bit far
fetched, I feel. Especially as
she opened a shop selling things
at exorbitant prices and things
we would never use here in
central Europe. I have just
had a fairly large clean out.
Although I live very well and
go short of absolutely nothing.
Perhaps it is just the great life
quality here in Switzerland and
great pensions (if one is / was
highly educated and spoke say
three languages G//F/E and Swiss
German). Great tips Vera. Nice
to be assured of these points
one again. I only buy something
now if I need to replace it apart
from healthy Bio unpackaged
food.
Your connecting material with being part of the personality is brilliant. It impedes you to grow. Switching it around, making space for growth gives insight.
I would like to know if somenone can become addicted to decluttering...and why would this happen😅♥️
@@sylviacalandriello3270 I think
it is mentally related. A fear
of maybe insecurity, needing
something maybe in the future,
or whatever. But cluttering is
a deep rooted problem. If I
lived with a clutteredr they would
not last long in my life. Out they
go with all their clutter, but easier
if I just left. Then the problem
would be solved.
@@sylviacalandriello3270 If you can become addicted to keeping things you can become addicted to having nothing. There's a lovely Buddhistic story about it.
Having grown up below the poverty line, I used to feel extreme guilt in getting rid of personal care products I bought and they simply didn't work for me. I had lotion I bought on clearance in my "poor years" and just got rid of 6 years later. She's absolutely right, getting rid of them meant getting real with myself and telling myself I'm not poor anymore and not to beat myself up.
I keep a cardboard box in the back seat of my car, whenever I see something in my home that I no longer need, I put it in the box, when the box is full, I bring it to the thrift store. My home is 95% decluttered, I actually just donated a collection that was boxed and kept in my guest room closet, everytime I looked at it, it bothered me, but it was worth at least 2k, so I donated it and the profits will help the shelters and the care for cats and dogs, that need a home or medical help.
That’s an awesome idea!
Wow! never thought of that. Thanks for sharing Christine. This tip is really awesome.
Nice video content! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (do a search on google)? It is a great one off guide for decluttering your home without the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my cooworker at last got excellent success with it.
I have a lot of boxes to fill...good thing i saved them...Then i am going to call the salvation army truck to pick up...(they will not fit in my car)...hahahahah
This is a good strategy. I am going to try the box. Thanks for sharing.
Those memories are not always “inside us”. As an older person starting to forget things, I often appreciate a physical reminder of good things I’ve forgotten.
This is a really good tough love video. Definitely getting real.
Thanks for sharing! :) Yes I get that. It's one of the reasons I always take a picture of a sentimental item when I declutter it, so I'll have that memory to access years and years from now if I ever want to.
@@SimpleHappyZen That's a good idea. I will try taking pictures when I declutter.
This is good idea to take pictures. In 2020, I decluttered my grandparents house that inherited. Took me 3 years to start.
I went back last weekend and was so happy that there were several items I didn't get around to decluttering. I had stored them in a closet to go through later.
It was powerful to touch my grandmother's jewelry; nothing expensive, but necklaces she wore to church that I remember well .
For me, I think with some items it might be good to declutter first and then box the remaining with a date on it. This is a strategy I'm going to try, and it may help as a process, especially dealing with items of people who have passed or if one's memory is changing.
Even though we know we cannot take it with us and that minimalism has excellent benefits, sometimes it calms our nervous system down to know we have items that jog our memories. ❤
You are doing excellent work in the world @simplyhappyzen. Thank you for being so dedicated and continuing to raise your level of content and growth. 😊
Former IT guy here. I absolutely love the idea of replacing the physical stuff we no longer need (physically) yet keeping a photo of it. Reclaim your physical space! But people, hear me now, and hear me well... ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS. And keep copies of the backups offsite, preferably several physical sites (or at least a cloud account).
When we 'digitize our lives' it's easy to overlook just how instantly a broken hard drive, forgotten cloud-account password, or house fire could instantly wipe out our digital legacy. Naturally, many kinds of physical disasters could do this to our physical stuff too, but it's much, much easier to back up, replicate, and protect digital vs. physical stuff. So there's very little reason not to do it.
I've seen people go 100% digital with a lifetime of family photos... then neglect the data, no backups, and lose EVERYTHING just because an inexpensive piece of hardware failed. Don't let that happen to you!
I just love your encouragement and advice. I am 65 and have lived in the same house for 35+ years. Decluttering has been difficult but is a must in my life. I have found that l have spent more time on “ things” rather than what l need to be focused on. I am believer in change, knowledge and growth. Thank you once again.
Thanks so much for your kind comment Kimberly! :) 🤗🌼
Kimberly Ferguson oh I agree, I’m recently retired and constantly trying to declutter. My house is neat and clean but I have “stuff “ I don’t use, wear or have too much of....
Excellent!! The same holds true when you have to clear out your deceased parents belonging. The thought of getting rid of their things feels like you’re getting rid of them😢😢
I have OCD and really struggle with decluttering. I put off doing it because it causes me a lot of stress and anxiety- but at the same time the clutter causes that too. The tips you shared really spoke to me! Especially the part about flipping it to what do I have to gain by getting rid of the item. Thank you!
I spoke my mind.
My purple elephant what Do you mean flipping it? Plus how is the decluttering now. 2 years on?
Decluttering is one of my favorite hobbies. Yes I’m weird, albeit interesting 🧐 Even though I’m not a minimalist in the traditional sense, minimalism influences my life on a daily basis. Principles over aesthetics in my case. Have an awesome day! 🌿
Thanks for sharing Josh, you have a great day as well! 🤗
nothing weird about it my guy, i am just the same, it is such a good feeling to have a clean house and clutter-free.
It seems easier for men to let go of things compared to women who get emotionally attached and makes it difficult to let go of items.
Vanessa May in my case that is definitely true
@@vanessamay3689 Not in my household. I’m the purger and my husband is the hoarder. I don’t think it’s a gender thing. I have a lot of friends in the same boat as well. I think a lot has to do with upbringing. 🤷♀️😃
I use the time trick. 20 minutes every day. Works amazing!
Thanks for sharing, yes it's an awesome trick :)
My takeaway in this video: Get Real...there's not enough space and time in the world to do it all... Thanks Vera, when minimalism starts to wane in my head, your videos get me in the gear again. 😊👍
So happy you enjoyed it and found it helpful! :)
When I began minimalism I was so enthousiast . I declutter so much things than I regret it. I needed the items that I gave out, I missed my clothes. What I would say, decluttering should be a very strategic and planified action, not just because everyone is into it. Because doing things just like anyone, being emotional, after you will regret it. I continue my minimalism journey, but now I am more aware of why I am doing it.
Really enjoyed this side of decluttering...the psychology of why it’s hard. I’ve been decluttering for a while now but still have way too much stuff. I know I have gotten rid of a lot but then I look around and still not happy with what’s left but I can’t seem to go all out and just get rid of things I’m still hanging on to. I’m sure mine stems from coming from a poor family and having very little when I was growing up to now being able to have what I want and not wanting to go back to those memories.
Thanks for sharing Joanne. Take it step by step. I certainly have hold on to things in the past that I just wasn't ready to let go, and then a little time later, I did feel ready. :) So if you keep taking small steps, you'll get to where you want to be
Vera,
You’re so on point with the “switcheroo.” We are always thinking about what we stand to lose because we think the thing to be given away is a part of us. I had to train myself to say, “how will getting rid of this improve my life.” I recently came across this aphorism, “Nothing changes if nothing changes.” I’ve heard it said other ways, but I like this one because it’s more poignant. So my point is that we really have to work on changing our thinking when it comes to letting go of stuff, which is exactly what you are saying.😂😁💚
Hahaha exactly 😄 Plus switcheroo is a fun word to say 😂 I like 'Nothing changes if nothing changes'. I've also heard: If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten
Yesssss! Love this video and comment
This is The best video I’ve found on CZcams for logically find a way to part with sentimental things. Thank you
Thank you so much Karina, happy you found it helpful! Have a lovely day today
im decluttering, and i feel so sad getting rid of stuff but its also so satisfying to create a new space 🧡✨ thanks for the videos 🥰
Perfect tips on the weekend. And how relaxing to listen to 😊
Yay, so happy to hear that! Thanks Hifa, have a lovely weekend! 🤗🌼🍃
I am at a point in my life that I am going to declutter all the areas of my home your videos have trully inspired me. I had a lot of lost in my life and acumulating things was my way to fill my losses. Including my health. I am ready for big changes and a new beginning. Thank you
Thank you for sharing and I'm glad to hear my videos have been helpful for you. I think it's amazing you're taking these steps and wishing you all the best on your journey. Take care and let me know how it goes! 🤗
thank you so much. i’m trying to help my grandma who means a lot to me, she has an issue with throwing things out.
wow that thing you said about keeping and item that we don't use brings guilt because we keep seeing that item is so true! I never thought about this. In those cases it's better to get rid of it! Might feel guilty to get rid of it but it will be temporary since thst thing will be gone and might even be useful to someone else.
I love that method. What will I lose if I get rid of this item? I might regret it next year. (might/maybe some time in the future)
What will I gain if I get rid of this item? Immediately more space, less clutter, less cleaning, no more guilt when I see it, etc.
The "pros" list is much longer than the "cons" list. Easy peasy!
Exactly! 😄✌
even though I've been decluttering for over 2 years now, there are still things I struggle with that I can't let go. I think on my own time I will be ready and these tips are very helpful. Thanks Vera!
I have that going on as well :)
Mariela Merino I have been decluttering for 18 months and feel the same way. So now I am revisiting all the areas I decluttered and have actually been able to get rid of things I couldn’t the first and even second time I looked at them. I still have lots that I still can’t part with but will just keep revisiting them as I think this is the only way I can do it. I can’t make snap decisions about things.
Hi Vera, I am so happy you talked about what are to me the two most challenging topics : 1.letting go most of the things of my parents who passed away within the last two years. And 2. a lot of toys, books and clothes when my kids were younger and remind me of a very happy time. Thank you for giving us your tips by heart. I really appreciate your weekly videos with all your wisdom, love and kindness ❣💖
By the way: nice idea with these tiny little papers holding in front of the camera from different directions 👍😉
Big hugs to you, Corinna 💐🌺🏵
Thanks so much for your kind comment Corinna 🤗🌿🌱 So happy you enjoyed the video and could relate with the topics! And thanks for your compliment about the post-its haha, I kind of liked it myself 😇
Wowwwww! The whole video was amazing. I’m in the process of decluttering. I was suppose to be moving out of my apartment, so I put some things in boxes and ended up renewing my lease. THOSE THINGS ARE STILL IN BOXES that’s when I had the realization I NEED TO DECLUTTER then my friend suggested I watch some minimalist YT videos 😭🙌🏾so glad she suggested it. This has def helped me and gave me the motivation I needed. You said some pretty deep things! THANK YOU ❤️
Thanks so much for your kind comment! :) Happy decluttering!!
Hey Vera - another great video. Moving this past May was a real eye opener on just how much junk we accumulated over years. In prep for the move, we gave away/threw out a bunch of useless stuff (phase 1) and are trying to avoid buying more random useless items. The next step is to take another pass at it (phase 2) which is to give away/toss more of the useless stuff we didn’t throw out in phase 1. Your bread maker example was spot on and is exactly how we will approach the phase 2 pass on each item considered. Additionally, we will be mindful of the products we buy to ensure that they are 1) absolutely needed 2) purchased locally when possible 3) purchased from countries/companies who treat their employees humanely 4) environmental and 5) quality. Domo Sensei for your continuous inspiration and support on this most important journey of minimalist lives.
You make some very good points. The statement 'the items we hold around us subconsciously reflect and form our identities as a person' was very deep.
Yes the current version of my home is far from where I want to be but as you rightly said smaller tasks are a great help.
Such great advice here! Your calm and soothing voice is perfect for easing into the weekend! 😊 There is a great peace associated with letting go of what no longer serves us ♥️🙏
Thank you so much Nena 🤗💕🌷 I agree, it can be therapeutic in a way haha.
Simple Happy Zen absolutely 😊
I am so glad you said this, I love her voice! I play her videos in the background while I declutter because she is both inspirational and calming.
Thanks for those tips. I feel less haunted when decluttering things belonging to my grown up kids. I love decluttering because I feel more organized consequently feeling more peaceful with my life. 🤪
That's awesome! :) Thanks Muriel
Wow 162k, your channel has really taken off! I´m so happy for you, been following you since the beginning and it warms my heart to see you succeed. KEEP IT UP!
Aw thank you, I really appreciate that! 🤗✨💖
Thank you for this video! I love that you go deep into the emotional part of letting go of our material things. Emotions are our driving force in life and are often times underestimated.
Hi Vera, when you talked about bread maker made me realize I have pots I haven’t used in a long time and even large bowls that would free up space. I saved them for holiday cooking which I don’t do anymore. Yes freeing up space will make me feel better in the kitchen! You are so creative and inspiring! Have a nice weekend! ❤️
Aw thank you Lucy 💕🤗 That means a lot. Good luck and let me know how it goes! Have a great weekend
Oh wow, you really nailed the actual reason why we keep a lot of things. The meaning we give to items and we are attached more or less to that item's presence, as it were. I have such a hard time letting go of things but I'm in the process of letting go. This is really insightful.
Thanks so much :) Happy you found that helpful! Wishing you all the best with your decluttering journey
I almost didn’t watch this video because it seems so simple to throw your things away. I needed this though. Thank you for sharing your tips.
Very good advice love how you tell ways to actually do it and not just say have you used it in the last few months
3 months is a bit short for many hobbies! Eg for "hiking gear" which you used as an example! .. I don't live in a place where I can hike regularly ... But when I can take holidays.. I go with my kids where we can hike.. But that is only once or twice a year at present, the same applies to camping gear and skiing gear.. Once a year skiing holiday in Winter... Although due to Covid it will be 2 years, which was the same after having my babies (it was 2 years). But I didn't get rid of my really expensive skiing stuff because I knew it was just circumstances and I knew I would do it again.. . So I think for many things you need to have a year! Not quarter of a year as the time line.. And eg longer if it's situation/present circumstances eg having a baby or covid that stops you!
So agree with different methods to declutter depending on circumstances!.. I have been decluttering since Jan 17.. When my ex moved out.. Most of first year was separating our stuff and packing his up, 2nd year was the kids.. Due to one needing teenager bedroom and the other a school kids room. Since last year I am finally getting toy stuff.. All takes time as a single working mum!
Thanks for sharing Rebecca and congrats on all the progress you've made!! That's amazing. And I agree with the hobby stuff, the most important question is 'are they still adding value in a real way'. If they're seasonal and you can use them once a year and enjoy them thoroughly, the answer would be to keep them around
You channel is just amazing
I have got rid of some of my 10 years old makeups and jewellerys finally, i was emotionally attached to these things. It was hard but did it and I'm feeling great thanks
And the comments box is extremely helpful too
Thank you so much :) And congratulations on finishing your make-up and jewelry! Way to go 🤗
Words of gold! Thank you 😊
Fab, thanks! Started 1 - 30 challenge & yr Minimalism Decluttering Challenge 20 items very helpful as the numbers start getting bigger. Am on day 5 so thats 15 already gone. You are an inspiration & feeling energised by yr suggestions
Exactly what I needed! I wrote a list of every single area in my home this morning and started decluttering. Thanks for the motivation to continue 🌻
That's great! Happy decluttering, let me know how it goes 🤗✌
Been watching your videos regularly.... I am in the process of decluttering my wardrobe and these tips are really helpful. I especially found “ making the switchroo “, very practical. It’s essential to change the mindset and view the process of organising and letting go of things with a positive attitude, focusing on the gains. Thanks for the tips. Have an awesome weekend.
So happy you enjoyed it and that my videos are helping you during your decluttering! :) Have a wonderful weekend
This is excellent. It deserves so many more views. So does your channel. I really don't understand CZcams's algorithms at times.
Wow thank you! I don't understand the algorithm either hahaha
You give such great advice Vera . I have recently decluttered and it’s amazing how much better everything is.
Thanks so much Lynby, so happy to hear it's bringing you so much value :)
This is really helpful. It basically validating whats in my head but was unable to articulate to my self
5:14: I would add forgiving yourself for *decluttering* something. Thank you for this video 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for talking about the attachment to memories and items. This is something I have struggled with but have learned to release. My mother-in-law, who I love as my own mother, is a wonderful person but struggles with hoarding. She recently acknowledged that she has held onto items because she lost her mother to cancer as a preteen, and developed attachments to things as a way to supplement memories. We are now decluttering together and it’s a very healing supportive process. Thank you for your kindness and encouragement! ❤️
Wow that's amazing and you're so sweet to help her through this process 🌼
Explained complex issues clearly. Well articulated. Thank you. This is helpful.
Happy to hear it :) Have a great week!
Love this video, great advice. Now that I retired I have good tips to work with, thank you! Also love your favorite things from Ikea. I have a spare bedroom that I am calling my Zen room. I’m trying to change it into a peaceful retreat for me. My hubby has a few places in the home he enjoys so I wanted a space for me too.☀️
I really appreciate the 'switcheroo ' and your example just helped me hear it more deeply...it made me think of a few items I've been hanging on to but not using...
Happy to hear it! :D It has helped me a lot of times too
I felt so much guilt for spending all the money on the items that I didn’t do anything with. Your video really put it into prospective! Thank you so much!!
I am in the process of decluttering my home! You were the inspiration behind me finally diving in and doing it! I’ve already done my bedroom and walk in closet and I am LOVING how my bedroom area feels now!! So relaxing! I’m almost finished with my kitchen.. Just going room by room. I love listening your videos while I do it too because it somehow keeps me feeling encouraged to keep going😊 I’m gonna be listening to this again later while I am decluttering later today! lol.. Have a wonderful weekend!
Aww that's absolutely wonderful!! And congratulations on all your progress, doing great! 🤗✌
I’m also in the process as well🙌🏾 glad to know so many worthy outcomes.
Thanks for the kind words about when we miss the mark
Thank you for inspiring, Vera.♥️ I've been working on declutering. Sometimes, I feel that confusion what to hold and to let go. Thank you again, and have a wonderful weekend to you🌻😇☀️
You're very welcome Verena :) You're not alone, decluttering gets confusing at times, just keep taking it step by step. Have a lovely rest of your weekend!
This is awesome, thank you for sharing such wise tips! It’s hard to let go of things, especially those of a lost loved one.
Thanks for this video Vera! Love your calming and smoothing voice .. I needed to hear all this today! Blessings! 💙🌿🌱
Thanks so much Georgina, happy to hear the video provided value for you. Take care!
Yay! I am able to watch your video early 💗 One of my favorite minimalist youtubers.
Aw thank you Monica! Happy to hear that 😄🌷💕
Very good to include the psychological component to decluttering! Excellent and well put!
This video helped me on my journey of minimalism. I declutter an area and maybe a day or week later revisit the same area and feel differently about an item than I did before, ultimately giving it a new home. It may seem silly, but I am learning things about myself as I declutter and become a mindful shopper. Such as, my possessions do not define me. Among other things, you have helped me to learn not to hold onto an item out of guilt and to question why I have an item or want to purchase an item. Thank you so much for your videos.
That's so amazing Rebecca!! 🤗🌷💕
♥️ calming and perfect as always.
Happy to hear it, thank you Anneke :)
I needed this, Vera. Actually I was very busy yesterday and so didn't watch. I have just become free and so immediately started watching this. I was actually deep cleaning and I still was having qualms about decluttering some cookbooks. I think this just gave me the push to let go off the books - maybe donate to someone. Thanks so much. 😊😊😊
Beautiful video. So many items have this sentimental value, the memories attached and it’s frequently hard to let go. But we don’t realize that many of these things turn into clutter and do not allow us to have free space in our lives for the new experiences.
Well said :)
*Wow, amazing advice!! You have put it in a perspective I’ve never thought of before or heard anyone else say!! Thank you* 💜✨
I'm so happy to hear that 🤗🌻 Glad it was helpful! Take care and have a great weekend
Love this! Got rid of four bags! Woohoo! Making space for my little van home🥰
I’m moving into my own apartment soon and I need to declutter all of my belongings. So this video helps.
Congratulations and good luck!
This was very helpful thank you!!
You're very welcome Hannah, take care and have a lovely Sunday
So helpful
Ty for all you do 💜
Thank you for fresh new perspectives!
You're very welcome :) Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
I really enjoy your channel. Such wisdom at such a young age. I am starting to appreciate that our planet is in good hands with our future generation. My house is littered with exercise gear i haven't used in years because of a short period of fitness fanaticism! Adding this to my bullet journal. Time for a chuck out! 🧚♂️🧚♂️🧚♂️
Needed to hear this... someone has to tell it like it is .... that too in the most nicest way possible 😁 .... thanks love... and the video was a visual treat as well! 👍🏼
Priceless. Thank you Zen.
You're very welcome :)
Thank you so much for sharing these tips. They are excellent!
You're very welcome Terry, have a great day and take care!
Great motivation to start my Saturday! I always enjoy your videos!
Yay, so happy to hear it! Thanks Jane, have a happy Saturday 🤗🌾🌱
Another great video! Thank you for the tips and tricks!
Thanks Nancy!!! :D
Thanks for sharing your video this is exactly what i needed, you have totally understood the difficulties for us and simplified how we can do this! I am watching it couple of times so i really get the emotional sides of things! Thanks from UK 🙂
So happy to hear it! I've done a lot of decluttering myself and have faced all of these challenges myself, so it's easy for me to talk about them. :) Good luck with decluttering and let me know how it goes!
Oh my god thank you! I needed this!
Very valuable perspective! Thank you!
You're very welcome Susan 🤗🌼
Hi👋🏼. I’ve been binge watching your videos and I absolutely love them. Feeling inspired! Thank you💗💗💗
That's awesome, thanks Tiffany! :)
Vera, I enjoy the nature scenes each time in your videos. 🌱
Happy to hear it, thanks Audrey! 🌱🌾🌿
And - great job with the analysis of the breakdown of decision making and how to tackle the decluttering process.
I really love your video eventhough it's very difficult for us to live in a minimalist home still, I am following some of your tips... thank you for sharing
This was incredible advice! Thank you so much :)
I am following you for some time and when you're saying stuff you don't use anymore, you get 3 items. Whenever we do that we get 10000 items. 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for all the good tips downstairs and 1 room, cleaned out.
2 rooms and the attic, to go then the house had it first round of minimalism.😘😘😘
That's amazing, keep up the good work!! :) Sending you a digital high five
Thanks Vera, i regularly watch your videos to guide me through decluttering and minamlism. I like your comments on the guilt feelings with items I have bought and not used- is this adding value to me today is easier to process than does it give me joy. Thankyou. I have finished the bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom now I'm at the tricky bit of jewellery (really hard), photos, books, sentimental items...
Happy it was helpful! :) Also congrats on all the amazing progress!
Thanks very helpful I'm trying
This was so well done and helpful.
Thank you so much Sarah :)
Since watching your videos.
I have been able to let go of a lot of my stuff and that’s what it boils down to. “Stuff “and by doing this I have been able to pack it up and sell it on at my local markets. Which brings in money. I have a long way to go but at the end of the day I will be able to then focus on what’s really important. Which is to build that tiny house.
Thanks Vera. Awesome as ever..
🍃☮️🍃Out...

Haha yay! I love to say that word too haha, it's a funny word
Ohhh! So that's why its so difficult! I don't want to give up things that define me somehow! Interesting!
Perfect tips Vera and I have to say your sweater looks beautiful on you. 👍🏻💚
Thank you so much! 🤗💕 Hope you're having a nice weekend so far
I like the switcheroo!!
'get real' is so true! i think we take our thought patterns for the truth without even thinking about it, so if we have a thought about something we just assume that's 100% accurate without questioning the thought process. like if you're getting rid of stuff to do with a hobby you don't do anymore, i think a lot of times we assume that means we failed at that or are a bad person, but that's not true! it literally just means that you don't need the stuff for that hobby anymore. your things are not 'you,' no matter how much we feel like it sometimes!
im reading mindset by carol dweck right now (HIGHLY recommend and will be making a video about it on my own channel) and this video reminded me of so many of the lessons in there. with a growth mindset, the only thing that defines you is whether you are seeking out challenges & are trying to grow and develop yourself. i think this goes so well with letting items from a past hobby go or feeling like we made a mistake with a past purchase. these things don't define you, the only thing that matters is if you're growing and learning from this.
vera you were the first (and only!) person to help me understand how to let things go that we spent a lot of money on and i am seriously so grateful for that! i really wouldn't be in the place i am now with my minimalism if it wasn't for that lesson, so thank you!!
edit: wow this is a long comment because i have so many thoughts about this video i love it!! the point about breaking it up is so important!! i think so many people get discouraged by seeing others' super minimalist homes & think that's so far away for them that they don't even start. in these situations i think the mindset 'don't compare your middle to someone else's end' is super helpful! i just love how decluttering has so many parallels with self love & development! thinking about what you gain by letting something go is suchhh a game changer, especially when something is causing you stress or is constantly reminding you that you aren't doing enough (like the bread maker reminding you everyday that you still haven't made bread!) i think the sooner you can embody this mindset the sooner you will feel so much happier everyday! letting go of a scarcity mindset is life changing
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts Claire, I really enjoyed reading your comment 🤗💕 So happy my videos are providing value for you! Have a lovely weekend
I´m glad that you mentioned that book-I first and have only heard about it from Tom Bilyeu. It´s still in my Amazon cart because these days I have such a hard time focusing long enough to read much and I have a book to finish and another book to start before I´l let myself buy another.
Your videos are excellent. And I must say, your English is impeccable! You speak better than most English people speak! ;) Impressive!

very good tips! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much Beth :) Have a lovely day!
So funny, I just spent most of the morning going thru some sentimental items and realized what you had said...that the memories will still be there , even if the item is gone.👍🏻
Great timing :)
OMG to get real is a HUGE one...
In my case, I'd be like buying clothes cause of boredom and to look for a change but none of that happens because is the only thing that I change, on the other hand I learnt what I don't want and nowadays I rarely pick a fight, I don't reply to negative comments or get aggressive in real life, nobody needs a fight, even if you feel that you release pressure or anger, when is deeper inside of you it will stay until you help yorself with it and try to figure it out where it comes from, what I mean is that getting rid of stuff can be as hard as getting rid of ideas and habits
That was very helpful, especially the 'switcheroo.' I kind of look at that as focusing on the present and the future, instead of the past.
Exactly!! :) Thanks Sue
