I show you my Hack that I do to my hat to make a curtain to keep the sun out when I am plane spotting. The DK-19 works really well. Thanks for the research. I found it easier to turn it inside out to put on and then roll it back to normal shape.
Yes, you addressed a frustrating shortfall of the otherwise great Sony FDR-AX53. Years ago I found an old rubber eyecup, with an extended side panel to block the sun, at a camera store that had a bin of miscellaneous parts. Mine fits well and looks like it might be from an old defunct VHS camcorder. Yard sales and thrift shops may also yield such mini treasures. I worry that I may lose my one-and-only rubber eyecup, so will look into (sure, pun it) your Nikon replacement version.
Just wanted to thank you. I bought the Nikon eyecup, and just like you showed, was able to strech it over the viewfinder of my SONY AX-53. Tried it yesterday, and it was way more comfortable. Was cloudy, so we will see how it works on a sunny day. I have issues with my left eye, so I really need to use the viewfinder. Thanks for posting this video. Truly appreciated.

I just got my 2 sedremm eyecups for my Sony AX53 today & I will be using it on my camcorder in 2 weeks at The NHRA Finals in Pomona California 2023, it will help me track the cars much better without losing site of the cars when in previous drag racing videos that I have shot sometimes the sun will enter from openings around my camcorder & eye thus resulting in a little bit of the race cars not being perfectly framed in my screen, I really think this will help so for those who care just keep checking my CZcams channel for my coverage of the NHRA Finals in Pomona California 2023 .....Thanks Just a Dad for this video .....

@@JustADad I had a Panasonic HC-X900M for about 9/10 years and it went to so many countries with me I lost count(see my youtube channel). Eventually the camcorder started giving a few problems so P/X for this Sony camcorder a couple of months ago. Added to it with the stereo Sony microphone - UV filter- Lens Hood 77mm so I could use it with My Nikon D800-D810 -D300. Also added spare batteries and a 128 GB SD card-JJC SR-F2W transmitter and receiver. Found a trick to keep that hotshoe flap out the way by using - Bostik Original Blu Tack Adhesive Blue Tack Sticky Handy Reusable Non Toxic 60g. Works really well without marking added a JJC grip like the Sony one but has a longer handle. So at the moment getting used to this Sony OH and a deadcat by Gutmann which is better than the Sony in my opinion. Below just see the blue Tack holding up the flap

I found what I personally believe to be a potentially better Eyecup for the viewfinder on the Sony AX53 purchase the official Sony eye cup for one of the next models above the called the "HXR-NX100" the mounting hole for these two cameras is very close, so all you need to do is wrap a small elastic band around the AX53 viewfinder to mount this slightly oversized eyecup made by Sony and the fit and feel is truly great

Although an eye cup would be useful. If you wear glasses, you can adjust the dioptre setting with the little wheel on the side of the view finder. Then not wear glasses.
Agree, it would be a nice feature but with my glasses on I dont see much and without my glasses I dont see much, I have to use my glasses otherwise I see everything fuzzy, lets see if this works
It helps even if you have glasses on but the light still comes around the side of your glasses.
@@JustADad maybe a flipscreen cover is better
@@CarinSomers I tried a screen cover and it is ok. but when the sun is behind you it really is hard to seet he screen because of your own reflection on the screen. if you tile the screen up just a bit then your reflection is not on the screen.

I have the same problems with my Sony and am upset that Sony hasn't come out with an eye cup for the AX53 knowing that its customers are having problems with the little crappy eye piece. I like the camcorder but hate the eye piece and the fact that Sony has nothing to solve the problem or have even tried to address it for its customers. I have been thinking about buying another camcorder from a different company with a good view finder and eye cup. Thank you for trying to solve this problem. Disgruntled Sony AX53 Camcorder customer.
I feel the same way. but wow does that image stabilization work great. That is the only reason I use it. I have to put up with such a bad design but it takes some amazing 4 k video.
@@JustADad Thanks, I agree but we shouldn't have to put up with it, if only Sony would fix this problem which shouldn't be to hard for them compared the the damage to there reputation by customers who depend on their product and them. I'm willing to pay for a good fix but as of now there is one.
@@ABfromWindsor Yeah me too. that view finder is really bad even with my eyecup, it is still really small and hard to see.
I can't believe that Sony never had an eye cup for this camcorder, I have heard others complaining about this to. Thanks for some insight on making your own but we shouldn't have to make one. Thumbs down to Sony on this issue.
