i thought manor lords looked like Banished almost immediately!!!
Watched a review of Manor Lords a few minutes ago and idk banished seems more polished to me. Of course it's older and longer in development but i never played both games. What game should i try first?
Manor Lords seems like continuation of Banished with added mechanics like personal militias, off grid parcels, castle construction and first person view.
I felt the exact same way.
I'm not even complaining on that point. Banished needed sequal lol
Banished came out polished, also 1 person developer, it was very thought through, it was actually insane how detailed and very well thought out it was. The only thing missing was combat. It was genre defining. Manor Lords has combat and it is a gorgeous game, but it can't even compare to Banished.
I'm sure I read that Banished is effectively impossible to beat or 'win' as you need to constantly grow your population. You can't just settle for a small village and maintain it. You grow until you run out of space then you start having problems. Maybe that's been resolved now?
I haven't played much Manor Lords since it first came out. But assuming it hasn't changed much since:
Manor Lords is overral a more chill expirience, you just have to keep a few weird hame mechanics in the back of your mind and you are good to go.
Banished however is essentially a game that seems to have been made to show why a command economy is a terrible idea. The game is deceptively stressful. Not enough clothes? Everyone freezes and dies. Not enough tools? You will send everyone into the gulag to dig for iron with their bear hands because your only blacksmith refuses to make tools for himself (also everyone dies), shit crop? All the children starved to death, welcomed refugeea? Everyone is dying from a plague they brought. So on so forth. The game becomes easier as you start learning what caused your prior faliures. But it takes time, and makes more rewarding once your town stabalizes and grows healthy.
Banished made a big splash the year it was released and it's still a great game. It was one of the most popular games of 2014. I don't believe the manor lords game was made by a single person and he tried to emulate Banished. If I were to compare the two games, my choice would be Banished.
Yes, tried to copy Banished, but forgot about the fundamentals of medieval settlements, such as fishing, raising livestock (not just sheep for crying out loud) and knights and suzerains, if you are going for Feudal Europe vibe. Also completely dumb production chains. It added some really cool features, but also removed some😁.
No combat in banished tho.
