Old style PCV valves would draw very little air from the crankcase while under the intense vacuum of an idle condition. However for some reason VW designed their PCV diaphragm to be both vunerable to tears and fairly strong. When you take the oil fill cap off while the car is running, cars with a tear in the diaphragm will fall flat on their face from the unmetered air. It makes sense that the intense vacuum of a bad PCV will damage seals from the inside.

Question... I got a 2010 VW CC Sport it's a 2.0 Tsi Turbo. Now iv had it 3 1/2 yrs now. Absolutely no issues very strong very quick car. Amazing lil turbo engine but.... Thanksgiving morning around 5:30ish am my wife goes to start it up n get the car warm n I hear her yell something is wrong... N I go over n hear it Missing.. which at midnight it wasn't missing when we got home from Walmart. But 5am it was.. so I went ahead ran the OBD2 scanner it said misfire in all cylinders basically it didn't say anything bout lean or rich ect just all cylinders was misfiring gave me the P0303 P0302 ect. So I went ahead n dropped the R8 coils "Red tops" in and new iridium plugs. Figured that would do the trick... N it helped massively but... It didn't wanna start for a second which is bad.. considering it's never done that before.. n it started n was missing again n stuttering n being hesitant on acceleration. So I cleared the old codes and rescanned it.. and it said cylinder 3 misfire.. that's all... So I rechecked #3 everything seemed fine n connected right but still it was missing.. n it keeps saying #3 misfire the epc came on n engine light came on flashing.. now since it's got all brand new iridium plugs and red top ignition coils what else can cause #3 to misfire ?? It just happened all at once it was running absolutely fine until Thanksgiving morning... Do you think the pcv could be the reason??? Or is their anything linked directly to #3 causing it to misfire?

Ive got a p0171 error on mine, I was told I had a leak in my Intercooler and Radiator which I replaced (£££!) and the problem continued, I've since changed the PCV and breather hoses and still having the same problem! Have done a smoke test and cannot see anything obvious... If I press the gas the revs will go up but on the way down 'stick' at 2k for a second, drop a bit hold then drop back to normal. The car will also increase revs on its on sometimes at idle... I'm totally confused, I'm about to replace the DV but at the end of my wits! I'm only part way the video but some great insight so far.

Check for vacuum leaks. If you have a 06 gti or an FSI engine like I do check by where your high pressure fuel pump is. Check the vacuum lines around there. There are some that are plastic and brittle. My car only has 100,000 on it and two hoses under the high pressure fuel pump we’re cracked. Replace those and see what happens. I had the same issue you did and that fixed it for me. I am still throwing a lean code though. That will get figured out soon.
