    I am pretty sure Garmin created its own messaging system to get around Apple locking down messaging to the Apple Watch on iOS. I do really like the direction Garmin is heading ... 2022 had all of the pieces spread across different devices that added together would make quite the powerful all-around watch. $10+ a month isn't cheap, especially compared to the kind of functionality you get with a smartwatch from Samsung or Apple with LTE for that, but not having to deal with all of the strings attached of having a traditional carrier might actually be worth it from a simplicity and reliability perspective.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před rokem +3

      I agree about the subscription cost. There's something liberating by simply buying a month-to-month subscription from Garmin directly rather than getting tricked into some weird contract with my phone provider. I do wish the price was $5/month. But if they add more features the $10 might be worth it.

    Great video, and some really good features. Totally agree that some of those features would be good on the more expensive watches in the range. I do wonder though who this watch is for ... whilst the child may be wearing it, the features are mostly for the parents to make use of from a safety and wellness point of view.

  • @angyejones2954

    It would be very cool if it sync'd with a HRM. This would be a usable device for a senior needing minimal connectivity for safety & messaging to family members as well as fitness tracker. I think DC Rainmaker's video mentioned the file could be exported, but I may be wrong.

    In your opinion, could this watch prolong the need for a kid to "need" a cell phone if they are a latch key kid? I am considering this to give my kiddo freedom to walk to and from school instead of needing to be bussed to an offsite before/after program, but we don't have a landline for kid to check in when getting home or needing something.... Thanks for the video!

    Well, this is a good review yet we still need to consider the age of the child. Mine, I got from Easyfone KW2 and the features are very easy for my kid. It's friendly for children design coz it has no game. Luckily, it can save a plan than using too much expensive by its monthly plan. Anyway, I'm just sharing mine.

    Hi I am considering getting a watch like this for my kid, i saw on google review, someone complained about sending only 20 messages a day to other family members who have Garmin devices.
    Here are my questions
    1. Do I have to own a Garmin device in order to receive messages from my kids
    2. It can be any Garmin device? Or I can just use an Android phone that has the Garmin Jr app
    3. 20 messages might not be enough for a day, can we type our own message?
    4. Does it make phone calls too, or only voice messages

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před rokem +1

      1. No you simply need to install the Garmin Junior app on your phone. This is where you can send/receive messages from your kids.
      2. Garmin to Garmin communication only works between Garmin bounce devices. No other Garmin's support this yet.
      3. I haven't heard of this 20 message limit? In fact we use messaging daily and haven't run into this issue.
      4. No phone calls, it sends voice memo's. I thought this might be a drawback but it's actually more functional this way. My kid's old LG Gizmo did phone calls but they were always drawn out, hard to understand, and distracting. Voice memo's are more to the point.

    Hi! I know this isn't maybe the right video but I've a question. I'm about to buy my first sportwatch, I do 3 times a week a weight training and 3 times a week a running training, I'm interested mainly in the Garmin Coach, sleep monitoring and healt status features. I was looking for a Venu 2 Plus (I love the display and decine) and a FR255/955. I know that the FR955 has a lot of more features for tracking training, but I'm not an advanced athlete, so is the Venu 2 a good idea? Or I have to buy a FR? I'm not expert on this argument, thanks

  • @ted363636
    @ted363636 Před rokem +1

    There's still a huge gap in terms of Garmin products when it comes to kids 11-15 especially in EU, where you have to be 16 to create a Garmin Connect account and you have to lie if you want teenagers to use for example Venu series. Bounce isn't really good enough for teenagers who want more stylish stuff. Apple enables the Watch to be used even by smaller kids.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před rokem

      Yeah there's certainly some opportunity in the middle there for "tweens" the Bounce is more suitable for 6-12 year olds I'd say. After that something more "grown up" would probably be better. Honestly, the Apple Watch SE makes a compelling option at that point.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před rokem +2

      I think it was intentionally left out to keep the device simple to use for kids. Honestly, it's not something that bothers me. My kids used to have LG Gizmo watches with a call function that we rarely used. The voice memo or text was always easier to deal with. But yes, that would be nice to see down the road or when this tech matures.

      There's some benefits to the Bounce over an apple watch. First, if the parents are Garmin users the Bounce ties into the ecosystem pretty nicely with shared step challenges and stuff. Second, the subscription does not have to be tied to a cell phone provider like apple watch's require. And third, this Garmin Bounce is a super simple device which is easy to use for kids. I'm afraid an apple watch on my 10 year olds wrist would present a constant distraction since it has so many features.
      But yeah, for older kids? Apple watch might be the better way to go.

I mean, not a preloaded msg; emergency button just work with Garmin app??? Looks like Garmin didn't care of your beloved child but just want more revenue from you using their stuff; what's new about LTE? Is 10 years old tech and Garmin and other corpos as well sell it like the last tech...stealers..; how could you think a steep challenge could be funny for a kid?? is this a joke?; do you really think "weather forecast" is a must have feature for a kid??? It's really obvious this is another paid promotional video and doesn't help your to generate trust with your followers. This is a $25 smartwatch with the same features as an adult one.

      I'm assuming you're just being a troll to get a rise out of me but I'll bite:
      1. Of course I know how much my kid sleeps. However, I've never actually put a sleep tracker on him so it was insightful to see his stats.
      2. I put an "electronic tracker" on him so we can communicate while he's not home and so I know where he is when he's not with me.
      3. Yes, the step challenge is fun for a kid. It promotes him to be more active instead of sitting on the couch. I call that a net positive.
      4. LTE is old tech but in this form factor it's relatively new and it's new for Garmin which is why I've highlighted that feature.
      5. I'm not sure what your beef with weather forecasts are? But yeah, I think it's handy.
