    Hello, this is Algae.
    Do you like chestnuts?
When I was young, I used to pick up chestnuts in the fall
And I used to store the chestnuts in the refrigerator
Each time, one or two chestnuts would sprout in the refrigerator
Sometimes I wondered what would happen if I keep growing the buds of the chestnuts.
I decided to take this opportunity to sprout chestnuts and solve the curiosity.
If sprouted chestnuts are hiding in your refrigerator, why not plant them in the soil?
I hope you enjoy the video and have a nice day.
    Thank you.

I just plant chestnuts in the forest and hope for the best. Thank you for the tip of slightly peeling the part the root shoots from, I might try that.

Yes chestnuts are very important trees. There is a big horse Chestnut tree where in front of my apartment building. Some of the animals that like the tree are birds, squirrels, and various sap sucking insects like lanternbugs.

      Hello This is Algae.
Thanks for watching my video :)
As you said, trees belonging to the Fagaceae family play an important role in the ecosystem.
I hope that various trees that have a beneficial effect on human and animal nature can flourish.
      Have a good day :)

It's obviously too late an answer, but i placed mine in a container without soil n the fridge, after two(2) weeks it has germinated.

Do they also work with “wild chestnuts” the ones that are more round??

      Hello this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a good question :)
When you refer to the plant as 'wild chestnut', do you mean marronnier (horse chestnut)?
The marronnier (Aesculus hippocastanum) is a plant completely unrelated to the chestnut (Castanea crenata).
Although the seeds of the two plants are similar in appearance, poisoning accidents due to marronnier seeds have occurred, but they are phylogenetically (taxonomically) distant plants.
However, germination of marronnier can be accomplished in a similar way to chestnut.
And it germinates easily enough to produce marronnier seedlings simply by sowing them in the soil.
I hope my answer solved your questions.
      Have a good day :)

Where did you put the container? Did you put the container outside or in the refrigerator?
Do you water it again within that 2 weeks?

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a nice question.
Chestnut is one of the most popular ingredients in Korea.
I kept the chestnuts harvested as food in the refrigerator (4°C) and sprouted some of them.
I placed the chestnut-planted container indoors at room temperature (25°C) and waited for the seeds to germinate.
I didn't mind the presence or absence of sunlight.
As far as I know, sunlight has no effect on chestnut germination.
The container is not completely sealed, but moisture does not easily escape.
I didn't do any additional watering until the chestnuts germinated.
However, if the container you are using is not capable of retaining moisture well, you will definitely need additional watering.
After the germinated seeds were transplanted into plastic cups, they were watered whenever the surface of the soil was dry.
The winter in Korea is dry, so the soil dries up easily.
So I watered it about once a week.
      Have a good day :)

I have a question for you 🙋‍♂️, where can I store chestnuts before germination? Where can I store them at? Where? I want to keep the chestnuts viable for a very long time. I want to do this. How can I keep the chestnuts viable when I decide to germinate it? How will I keep them viable longer?

    • @CommonThresher
      @CommonThresher Před 8 měsíci +1

Put them in a bag with wet tissue in fridge

    • @emwing1458
      @emwing1458 Před 8 měsíci

Or you could put them with some damp peat moss in a zip lock bag in the frig. Should be good through the winter.

      Hello this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a good question :)
I keep the chestnuts in the refrigerator (4℃).
During this process, the chestnuts are stratified and ready for germination.
I recommend low temperature (cold) treatment for at least 1-2 months.
Once you've done the cold treatment, your chestnuts are ready to sprout at any time.
If you want to store chestnuts as seeds for a long time, store the naturally dried chestnuts in the refrigerator.
Chestnuts that are dried to an appropriate level can be stored in the freezer (-20℃).
I consume most of the chestnuts harvested in the fall before the following fall (on next year).
So I don't know exactly how many years stored chestnuts maintain a high germination rate.
From personal experience, I remember that it can be stored in the freezer for at least 1-2 years.
I hope my answer was helpful to you.
      Have a good day :)

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a nice question :)
I germinated chestnuts using coco peat-based culture soil.
Because chestnuts are highly adaptable plants, they grow well in most soils except soils with extreme pH or characteristics.
      Have a good day :)

    • @Algae_algae

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a nice question :)
The chestnuts I sprouted are harvested from trees planted by my neighbours.
The name of the variety of chestnut he planted is unclear, but it is a tree capable of producing chestnuts of superior quality to wild chestnut trees.
In Korea, there are various varieties of chestnut trees for producing chestnuts.
I'm guessing it's probably one of them.
Sorry for not being able to give you an exact answer.
      Have a good day :)
