I just came back to Canada after my fourth visit to my fiancé this year in bacolod. I can be moody and if things don't move fast enough I get grumpy, watching my fiance and how cool she handles everything and puts up with my tantrums. Its taken her 4 years but emotionally I am not so much a spoiled westerner anymore hahaha when I want to be moody I just look at her and calm myself and act a little more adult. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me😁

Yeah I knew the feelings, my hubby like you lack of patience especially he caught traffic here in the US I told him be patience remember the Manila traffic and in Post Office line with 5 or 6 people. I told him Philippines post office has a long lines.
Yes, it is true. Even though my wife and I are still U.S. based, we are fortunate enough to be able to visit the Philippines several times per year. Over the past 18 years, I've come to not only appreciate but cherish the time over there, in the province, where the simple act of going grocery shopping definitely (always!) takes longer than it would in the U.S.. Here is progress: I no longer shake my head and become impatient at the grocery store (not palengke) when it takes forever to accomplish using a credit card (two copies, all sorts of procedures, etc.) to pay for everything. And I now marvel at the traffic and how, for the most part, frustrating as it is, everything works. Everyone gets where they are going (there are no rules, it is quite disorganized, and giving anyone an inch and have them taking a mile, traffic flow-wise is a mistake), it is still quite amazing that in a country with that many motorcycles and cars, they all seem to figure it out.

its good to hear from a foreigner like you who fully understand our situation that despite of the shortcomings we've been going through ,we still find a way to deal with it.
We've all been there brother, we as Americans are spoiled to some extent, I use to have a major anger problem, then I spent 24 hours in jail and then I woke up, I learned to control myself and to understand the things I can't change. I now have my priorities straight... thank God he woke me up 🙏

As a filipina, I was taught by my parents, teachers and oldies to not always complain. To always put yourself on others shoes and that you are responsible on what you feel.

maybe that's why so many women in your country are subjects to domestic abuse and can tolerate bad treatment sadly. Lots of enables have this kind of attitude. There is a difference between complain because of being spoilt and the difference between enabling all kinds of abuse by keeping eyes closed.
One thing I've learnt about the philipinnes is the narcissism is out of this world. It's that bad that it's literally ingrained into the culture. So saying something like "ohh it's your own fault if you don't feel good" is just total rubbish and narcissistic. Some of the philipinos really need to grow up. That whole tampo thing is just petty and silly too
Your parents came from an era of trauma. That Is all trauma based advice and narcissistic. Actually think about it. Yeah complaining isn't good and I'm not saying it is, but how you said what you did really shows the colours of how your culture thinks and acts. Very black and white

That's a great story. I had a similar experience once, not only in that I am with a Philippina and we have a home and are growing a business in the Philippines. I remember when I was living and working in another country - an affluent nation with a sizeable population of migrant workers. I was at a pizza place and a big, fat, obnoxious American came storming in the door with two pizzas in his hand. He went right up to the counter, slammed the pizzas down, opened one of them up, and starting berating the cashier and the cook behind him because they had committed the appalling crime of failing to provide him with double cheese on both pizzas. He only had single cheese. The poor guys working there - neither of whom could afford even one of those pizzas for a meal - started to apologize profusely for the outrageous act. But that wasn't good enough. The fat man was not about to accept any kind of apology for the infraction. He ended the display by reminding them that 'in the civilized world, people are entitled to precisely what they ordered.' This is a basic element of 'civilization' he admonished them. He then walked out, but not before reminding his tormenters of the lesson he had just imparted, and that it was going to be him, the fat ass, who would have to pay the price for their incompetence by being forced to eat two sausage, pepperoni, and ground beef pizzas with only a single layer of cheese. What a pig. What an absolute pig. I felt so embarrassed. So, I get it brother. There is a lot inside of Westerners (and us Americans in particular) that is quite unpleasant. We tend to see only what annoys us and all too often NONE of the blessings in life, many, if not most of which, we never deserved in the first place. On a hot day, how much of a treat is it to walk around with a cup of ice that you can munch on? That's a pleasure most people never think about.
We’ll said brother and such a great statement. Ice is What if it’s late in gold on a hot day. But we actually complain about it like it’s inconvenient.

Great story!!! Count your blessings. It took a good amount of humility to make that video. It really helped me to think about things and be humble and not complain about what I don't have, such as not enough ice in a drink, but to appreciate what I do have. My goal now is to help other people who don't have as much. My wife, a Filipina, taught me to be generous and help those in need. If you really want to be happy and find great satisfaction in life while in the Philippines, help those in need. Do that, and you'll be really happy.

This was actually the video that brought me to your channel. Another channel did a reaction about it and that is how I found out about this channel and have enjoyed the content ever since. I can relate to what your saying a bit. Years ago i was dealing with back problems that were bothering me a lot and I was pretty much in constant pain. I lived far away (50 miles round trip) from a dead end low paying job that I couldn't leave to find another one because I was valuable and couldn't get fired. I was basically stuck in a bad place alone trying to do everything by myself and very angry all the time. Once things started to improve a small amount I decided to try to be happier. The first thing I did was when confronted with a problem or something that made me mad I asked myself if I do nothing about this will is affect me in a year? 90% of the time the answer was no so at that point I started not caring as much about everything and just let stuff go immediately. Some people around me saw that as weakness which created new problems but it was easily dealt with by staying away from them. Things slowly kept getting better and eventually I went 6 years with no back problems due to exercise and limiting myself because I wasn't 20 anymore. I'm starting to go backwards now because I have no room in my current small place for exercise equipment and I work a lot of hours but at least I know how to be happy now so stress and tension aren't making things as bad as they were. The point is I think what people see as problems is mostly insignificant and that is I think what you learned from your wife in this story is exactly that. Be happy with what you have and don't let something small ruin your day or really your life if your way of thinking becomes everything's a problem.
Being a Filipino, you just need to be positive in everything or else you are gonna go crazy. My Parents always taught me that all of us are just passerby in this world and no one knows when we are gonna die, so always choose happiness and making memories with your love ones.

Don't know what inspired you to share this story but thanks.. It is all about being grateful for what we have. We come from an existence where more is better.. the one with the most toys wins. The Philippines has a way of making us grateful for the little things in life.. I know I've also become very humble compared with who I use to be.. On video chats with my sister she's commenting "Wow, you changed".. We must change and adapt or we will never make it here.

It is true that most Americans although not all, are spoiled and entitled and would complain at a minor discomfort. Every time my husband would complain about something small, I tell him to be patient and be understanding and put himself in the shoes of the other person. We need to spread love, respect and understanding especially during these covid times.

I guess I'm just so lucky my husband when we go see my family in the Philippines he is so relax because our life her in Illinois is so hectic. He observed the sorounding how people do their daily life where I grow up in leyte. Sometimes when your not use to it, our life her in the US is different we get everything we need but we also work so hard to make our life easy. It's a culture shock , they appreciate little things in life.
It’s good to hear that about your husband and I agree on Illinois being hectic. We work so hard to make good money to make a life easier. However, at the day the people with the least amount of stress live the simplest life.
The family down the street doesn’t have cable, Internet, cell phones, or electricity and they are the happiest people I know.

You're story really got me bruh. The moral of story is always be greatful. I have everything here in the US but I never smile. You're both very blessed coz many people there in the Philippines can't afford to buy drinks in the middle of hot humid weather. I think I'm very happy now and greatful. This video was impactful after spending a month in the Philippines for the first time with my new wife and my son this past month. How we lose sight of the simple things and wanting more when all around us people who have less are happier than we can ever be. Your wife is a great woman helping you reveal a different attitude to circumstances. My son born and raised in the USA spent have his time complaining about walking, his phone not working, and not having a Smart TV in our hotel room. I'm sure I complained about someone my own things as well. Honestly thank you for giving me a different perspective on their culture and learning to slow down.

Your son sounds like every other child in a western country out there. Including myself growing up. I didn’t have a cell phone of course but I always had a TV and a game system. It’s funny Leading children over here that are happier than any kids I’ve ever met in the world. Yes they will have less than anyone else. It is challenging to help a child go from one realization to another however.

We were actually in Davao during our honeymoon. We were mostly around Cagayan de Oro for our wedding preparations. I got to eat Durian and balut and we took a tour from a visiting friend we met in our Hotel around the Roxas Street Market. They told me back in 2015 some Muslims threw grenades into the market. Glad they increased the security. But I would definitely like us to meet sometime and ask some questions

No offense but i heard many stories that marrying a foreigner is actually one of their way to escape from poverty. I can’t wait to retire in the Philippines. I know there are still problems there like everywhere else, but the people are so much happier with far less than here. I can’t wait to share this experience with my children and friends as well.
The title of this video caught my attention. Congrats on finding someone who brings out the best in you. Such a person is a gift. There is so much good stuff in this 14 minute video: you seeing how petty your complaining was; seeing your wife's perspective without becoming angry at her for not seeing your perspective, you choosing to live with gratitude. I'm guilty of believing I can't learn something from a 'simple Filipina' (more judgment) but I can. And I don't have to travel to the Philippines to do so! I only have to watch this from the comfort of my home in Sacramento. Good on you, brother. You are becoming the man worthy of such a gracious woman and this video inspires me to do the same.

Absolutely great vlog, Filipinos do know what really matters in life. They don't have much material things like us westerners do and just to have your health and food and family are all that really matters in life. We can all learn a valuable lesson from them and their culture in this respect.

Cory thanks for sharing and I 💯 relate and agree. Meeting my wife and coming to know and understand the Filipino culture def humbled me and helped me see and appreciate what is most important in life. As Westerners it’s all too easy to get caught up in the rat race and lifestyle creep (and too much ice lol) which is all so very unnecessary. A simple life with all the basic needs covered is all we need to be grateful and happy.
We are a few years out but we are currently downsizing and planning for our exit to some place like Valencia or similar. Although we love and know Davao very well, we are excited to come recon Negros for our retirement spot as we believe we would love the proximity and easy of travel to other islands from Negros. Take care friend and keep living the dream!

This was a very humbling story thanks for sharing reminds me of the time i went to Philippines and saw were my mothers side lived looked like a chicken coop seeing that side really made be how good i have it in the states and shouldn't really complain about the little stuff in life cause there is always somebody out there who would kill to be in our position.

I'm a Filipino and my wife is British, this is one the things that's been hard to make my wife understand when she visited in the Philippines but how you feel about it niw is something I heard from her one time and that made me happy. Lost my father last year.. and of course it’s sad..one of my lowest point in life… but after a while.. I realized.. my father had a heart surgery I think 11yr ago. And yes he’s gone now, but we could have lost him 11yrs ago..so.. I am thankful for that 11yrs..still sad but at the same time thankful

Just want you to know that this video changed my whole outlook on life! I’m going to be marrying a Filipina this July. We’ve been together for almost 3 years. I visited her last year for 2 weeks. She’s the most important person in the world to me. There was one time where we went to the Korean grill & the tables were very greasy & instead of celebrating the fact that we were together I complained about the grease. Wow...i know I came across this video for a reason! My name is also Corey and I'm from Chicago. My ex Filipino and I visited the Philippines on a regular basis and I always complained about everything from aircon to food portions to catching a cab. I had a serious attitude and she would just be quiet. After visiting so much I started appreciating the little things but sometimes I need a reminder because i still have my moments where I complain about certain things that the less fortunate would love to have
We are both guilty of being from a place where we can have anything we want. Not realizing how many people die from dehydration as I complained about how much ice I had is an example. Let me know if you ever come back to visit again my friend and thank you for watching.
@@ItsMe_Philippines Yeah i usually try to come around February when its cooler there. I made friends there after my ex Filipina and I broke up, and the people there treated me like a king. I've been to a handful of provinces, and now I have Palawan and Cebu on my bucket list
@@coreyposley808 Try the southern part of Cebu if you have time! Beautiful areas with a lot less people than the northern part. If you visit that area at some point let me know and I'll take the 30 minute ferry over to you.

Great moral story . Sometimes the people w/less money are happier. It’s evident in many Filipinos because they are just truly grateful for every little thing they have. They may be poor in money but rich in many other things such as Love and kindness making them happy because a grateful heart brings happiness. And majority of us Filipinos are that way. Mabuhay !
