  • Today I finally get the 420cc up on the work bench and make it perform a little better. I removed the governor, jetted the carb, air filter and exhaust. I think this engine will perform really nice. Don't forget to like, comment, subscribe and share these videos.

Well, I just picked up my own engine, and enjoyed having "foresight" in removing those items, and cleaning things up. Thanks much, I chose this engine because of you and several other people who have enjoyed putting them into shape. I look forward to "test driving" mine. I'm impressed with the cleanliness, good design, and quality you show is in these engines. Thanks again.

@@jeremyshea8055 I'd been looking for a carb for a chipper/shredder, two years, and bought the engine, then found a "Chinese carb", got my shredder running, and now am looking at that engine for a "walk behind tractor", and knowing the options from someone else's experience is a great boon. I live on sixty acres, and am planning on planting some five to ten acres next year. This and other videos has opened my options, and made getting going much easier, cost effective. I've found the Chinese have essentially produced parts for everything we've got that breaks, and they work, my government may hate them, but I've always respected their culture, history, and am enjoying their trade benefits.

Really Good video. Prompted me to get in touch with Brad Hill and get one of his beautiful gas diamond plate tanks for my kart. Coming this week. got my brand new (still in the box) predator 420, header, air filter and new 40 series torque converter. Can't wait for this weekend to get to work. One thing on your video made me a little nervous. Not to be too picky but when removing small parts, (nuts and clamps) with your muffler off, you should stick a rag or something in the manifold opening. Having something fall in that hole is a big OOPS, and something your viewers should be warned of. Great videos coming out of Red Beards Garage. Keep it up pal. Thanks.

I have never heard of anyone loosing the engine because of the oil sensor removal. You have to remove it on go karts. When you take curves hard or on a off road go kart it will kill the engine. That is the first thing I do when I get these engines

On the 420 predator that I just bought the throttle butterfly seems to operate in the opposite direction. In other words pulling the throttle rod opens the butterfly instead of closing it as yours seems to do. Spring loading it as shown causes it to return to full throttle instead of idle with the rod bent and connected as shown. Am I missing something or is my engine just different? Any ideas.

Hey there Red Beard! I have a question for you on this procedure. First, thanks SO MUCH for all of the excellently detailed vids, buddy. I'm building a man-sized kart right now using a Predator 420, so I used your video to learn how to remove the governor and low-oil sensor. Super easy thanks to you. However, I accidentally knocked the ballancing shaft out and although I know you mentioned that it can simply be removed, I also am curious to see the difference with it in, then taking it out later when I get around to purchasing a stage 2 kit. SO, my question is: do you know if there is any specific "timing" position for this shaft so that it ballances the motor properly or does it not matter? I don't see any markings to line up, but thought it was worth asking on the slim chance you were able to read this and get back to me in short time. Is there any benefit to just removing it now? Your expertise is much appreciated! Totally understand if you don't have a chance to respond quickly - it's a shot in the dark reachin' out. Keep up the awesome work and vids!

Question. I got that muffler and a 420 header pipe, but how did you attach the muffler to the header pipe?

How wide is the 420cc with the gas tank off? Just wondering if I could slip it between the 11" bars of my engine cage.

Subscribed... I'm looking at mods for my 420cc predator. I built the longtail on my duck boat and plan on picking up it's performance.

Red, awesome video following you step by step. Question, the balancing gear you talk about at 10:30 fell out. Made it easier to get oil sensor out :) For less vibration on my golf cart install im guessing, I should leave it in. How do I line it back up? mine is a little different shape than yours. Thanks again for great video.

There is a dot on the crank and the balance shaft just like the cam. line them up and slide it in. Probably would leave it in for your build

If I bought a header and a air filter for my 18hp duromax do I have to buy bigger jets for the carb to?

Did you say what size tap you use? If so I must have missed it unless you use the 3/8th tap for both? Thanks for the info.

Great detail and clear video. Keep up the good work. BTW - have you upgraded the cam and flywheel yet? There aren't many videos on do's and don't for the 420cc yet. I see a lot for the 212cc. Do you have any suggestions

I will be doing a few more videos on this engine in about a week so stay tuned. You don't need the billet flywheel when running a torque converter.

I don't have a converter. This is on a mud motor boat surface drive.

Do you have to remove the governor arm when removing governor gear?

    • @RedBeardsGarage
      @RedBeardsGarage  Před 6 lety +1

Yes you need to remove it so you wont damage your engine
