So it is a very powerful meditation…
      That is not a deception,
Look at the studies on TM and meditation in general and they increase overall well-being and support health.
So, always someone wanting to destroy what can be a great benefit,
You must be a Christian, right?

No guru, No method, No religion.
TM has changed my life using the basic yet efficient and powerful mantra OM. I would never pay any money for a free gift available to all. I am grateful to all of the teachers in my life....most of whom are dead now and we've never met. My two cents worth 👍✌️

every "free" gift available was taught by someone to someone else or made some form of payment/barter/commitment in return for being taught.
I can eat at a soup kitchen, restaurant or cook at home, the exact same meal will not be the same at all of these. I have issues with the fee's involved with many modalities, that's separate to respecting the time and effort of someone providing a service and not being an entitled hipster jerk

The big concern is. the mantra. If you receive the wrong mantra it not only will be less effective for you it can also be harmful. It's not about a secret. It's about respect and honouring a special tradition. If you want to invest in your health, like anything such as education or exercise, the money is wells spent.

In these 25 min of your honesty of experience they were answered . I too have questioned that if they truly want this to go viral world wide for the good of human kind why would they put such a price tag on it.. I do meditate 1-2 x a day, instructions are for 2x am/pm for 20 min. I had my ceremony yesterday. Once I received my mantra and was walked through the technique, it was like I fell right into it. I love it and have no regrets paying for it, though I understand it’s a lot of money for others. I did see that they offer a sliding scale and I’m wondering if that might benefit those who would not otherwise afford it. I’m not quite on the other side of my full introduction but I can see already what a benefit this would be for anyone open to it.
My instructor told me something too that stuck with me - aside from personal growth and healing, if just 1% of a community mediates, it affects the rest of the community in a positive way. I want to understand that better. I don’t mind being fluent in wu-wu 😉😆

If you pay a lot of money for something it has more personal value than if its free. I took this course in 1980 and still meditate today. Your can make your own mantra and practice for free, If it works for you do it. Over hyped and over priced today. Meditation is like prayer you can't trade mark prayer but they trademarked TM. Good luck.

    • @Len124
      @Len124 Před 3 lety +28

I'd like to gently challenge that proposition, but first I'd like to preemptively clarify: I'm not implying you're associated with the organization in some nefarious way or are aligned with their profit motive, or anything like that. So anyway, I understand where you're coming from, but that sounds like justification for profiting from something that many consider sacred and could, to the contrary, lead some to question the veracity of the organization's motives and, therefore, the practice itself. While some might value something more and stick to it longer than they would otherwise because they paid for it, especially something as non-tangible as meditation, others might get a sort of scam or Scientology vibe. I feel like I have enough impartial information on TM to know it's not bullshit or a cult, so I'm not really questioning that, but mixing a profit motive with such things creates a class-disparity that, in my opinion, is unethical, antithetical, and therefore counterproductive to the sort of mental state I believe it genuinely wishes to cultivate. I understand profiting to some degree to pay for an organization's expenses or an author, like maybe Ram Dass for example, profiting from his/her books and charging admission to his/her talks as a source of income (not everyone needs to be a non-profit or live in complete austerity), but TM seems to be charging so much that those at the top of the hierarchical structure are getting rich on the backs of those seeking spiritual development.

@@raphaelreiter I realise you are just a customer of this course but I am truly shocked, I have only just started looking into this and your video is the first time I have seen talk of costs, people talk of big pharma making huge profits on the back of peoples suffering and seeing the cost of this I see no difference, heck before seeing the cost I was thinking for 4 or 5 hours $300 would be too much for me but damn talk about profiteering, I am quite disappointed seeing this, if something like this comes along that truly benefits mankind like this has the potential for then you would hope that the people involved would see this as something everyone should have available and not just the well off. Crazy

    • @raphaelreiter
      @raphaelreiter  Před 3 lety +17

@@coastwatcher6849 I have to disagree here. Whilst I don’t like their way of doing things, they are a business and they are allowed to charge whatever they want. I am a meditation teacher and I charge per hour. I have a course that I also sell. Now I do try to make it more affordable but that is my choice. At the end of the day I have bills to pay and comfort and security to provide for my family. It is wrong to think that because it benefits humanity it should be free, or nearly so. It’s the same thing for musicians and artists. Passion is one thing, generosity is another, but in any case, we don’t live in a society where you would not pay your phone bill by offering beauty or enlightenment in return. What is wrong and evil is, as I have mentioned before, that they have found a way to trademark a practice that is thousands of years old, that doesn’t belong to them, so that they maintain the monopoly of the practice that they charge for around 1k$.

Hi Raphael, this is a very fair and accurate description of a first TM session. Mine was almost a carbon copy. I started last September and am almost a year at it now, although I may not see the year out. There is one thing you said that I would ask you to expand on (and indeed if any of your followers can help with this I would be grateful). In the vid you said you were told to 'recite' the mantra. I was never told to recite the mantra, I was always told to 'think' the mantra; and indeed some of the books I have read the phrase 'think the mantra' is always written. My natural inclination is to do exactly what you did i.e. recite the mantra, just like repeating it silently, just like saying it silently under your breath. But this is not exactly 'thinking it'. I did ask my teacher about this and was told, to my embarrassment that that was a load on nonsense. Is reciting/thinking the mantra, the same thing?
p.s pls give some book recommendations.....TY

I mean they literally surrounded me in my garden and got very close and I felt a communion with them. That was just one time and it was beautiful but in general I had an empty, lonely feeling. It was like I was in a different plane of existence but I was by myself. I wasn’t reacting in the same ways which was good but it also made me feel disconnected to the people in my life.
Slowly I did it less and now years later when I do it I simply feel nothing. It doesn’t hurt but it doesn’t help either. I try to just focus on the third eye from now on.

Hello Raphael, thank you for this realy great video!!! Its almost impossible to get any informations about TM without joining one of those incredible expensive courses! I would be very happy if you would answer the following questions: while you think of the mantra and have your eyes closed, do you "see" the written word infront of your closed eyes? And is it important to repeat it in a certain speed🤔 thank you🙏

I would like to share my own experience about TM which I have discovered 2 years ago. First and foremost, TM saved my life from anxiety. Second : about the price I must say : it's damn expensive. Third : is it worth to pay that price ? Well the answer is "balanced" for me. To keep it simple : if you want to learn to ski at 50 years, and you know you don't have all your life, and your body is not in the best shape (translation: you are 50 and carrying over anxiety for years) you have 3 choices :
    1. learn by your own (good luck)
    2. Learn in a group
    3. Learn with a personal dedicated coach (like TM)
For sure option 3 is the most expensive, but also the more effective statistically speaking... : I can definitely testify that the coach made a huge difference, learning me patience and technique to very quickly get into profound relaxation.
So should you pay ? It all depends on your personal capabilities to learn by your own, your priorities and the urgency to get better with meditation. And also don't forget the psycho analysis principle of Freud: if you pay for something, if something costs you, you will expect a result, you make that thing worth just by having paid for it. And, as a consequence, the chance that it will work increases significantly.

learned TM in 1972, and have practiced the technique very regularly since then for one and only one reason....it works. That is, I experienced a progressive growth of mind, emotional well being and effectiveness in activity and inner happiness. The interesting thing about the happiness, is that it is less and less dependent on what happens outside myself...the circumstances that occur every day. Negativity has less and less ability to overshadow this growing inner happiness. It's not that I'm not motivated to deal with things, it's just that I'm able to maintain a positive inner feeling in the face of stressors, which actually allows me to be more effective in activity. I recommend that, if you want to learn, go to www.tm.org and get reliable information and where to find a trained, responsible teacher. Pay the fee (which, nowadays, comes with a money back guarantee, as long as you complete the recommended training schedule)...the amount is marginal relative to the benefits you will derive from regular, correct practice. Good luck.

There is a saying - "knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing". How do you put a value on something: a $1000 holiday; twenty $30 meals in a restaurant; a new phone; some dental repair work? After over 50 years of practice, I think the value of TM has proved itself. Back in the day, the course fee was a weeks salary. Within two months I had a job paying me twice what I had been earning when I learned. The results had paid for the course. I got a better job because I was thinking more clearly and had more energy. Most people who learn don't keep up the practice, so they don't appreciate the value. It can be a lifelong habit, or a passing whim. You get to decide.

@@raphaelreiter You still get to decide. You can take the course, establish the practice as part of your daily routine and accumulate the benefits. There's nothing wrong with a business model that has a scale of fees according to income and ability to pay. There's nothing wrong with a business model that pays a proportion of the fee to the teacher for their time. There's nothing wrong with spending a proportion of each fee on marketing and there's nothing wrong with allocating a proportion of each fee to help establish TM in countries where incomes are very low. I'm not sure what you mean by monopoly. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of Transcendental Meditation has trained teachers to teach the technique very precisely. These teacher keep their traing up to date via Maharishi's organisation, and this makes then certified teacher in the same way that someone who has received medical training is certified to be a practicing physician. This gives the student confidence that they are going to be taught properlly, without additions or subtraction from the original method. If that's a monopoly. it's a benevolent monopoly. It ensures that you always get what you pay for and that the technique delivers what it is supposed to. There are plenty of pretenders, copyists and cowboys cashing in on TM's reputation for efficacy and the 50 years of scientific reseach into the effects. Maharishi began as an individual teacher and his life's work was to establish an organisation that woul represent the knowledge well and thus ensure it's purity through time.

I did the "official course" and paid $200 for 10 sessions of 1-2 hours, one-on-one with a teacher. I'm based in Manila, so perhaps they adjust their price to the country where you live. The course itself was a mixed bag - I liked my teacher, I definitely liked the technical aspects of the training and it has benefitted me for the past 10 years. What I did not like at all, was the cult of personality around the Maharishi Yogi - for that reason, I never attended any group sessions after the first invitation. So while I'm super grateful for having learned the technique, I find the corporate and communal aspect of TM off-putting. So from my perspective, initiatives like yours are super welcome to introduce more people to the technique, I think ... Thanks a lot!

I chose my mantra by looking at a list of mantras available on the internet. I am having excellent results even without having taken the course but at the same time I would like to have the certainty on the part of a teacher that I am doing the meditation in the right way. Maybe in the future when I have the money I will take the course. I just wanted to ask you for information. I have noticed that during meditation I realize that I am entering a state of mind that is different from normal. I feel good, this feeling lasts a few seconds or minutes and I can't keep it for 20 minutes. Did they explain to you during your course if there are any techniques to maintain a more focused state of mind and have a deeper meditation?

They say you don't have to believe in any system that it's not a religion...but then I find out it's linked to some Indian guru and that I should bring along all this weird stuff to the first session e.g fruit, handkerchief etc. Also the cost. All the Hollywood endorsement has me sceptical aswell...makes me recall Scientology.

It is not just the intro ceremony that is religious. The mantras are a set of hindu deities. TM is definitely religious. I didn't know that in the past, because they make it so secret. Precisely because of its religious nature, TM has been banned from many schools in the USA, most recently in Chicago, and thanks to the courts, we were able to get a more clear idea of what the ceremony was about, as well as some translations of mantras.

I just did the course which was pretty much as you described it.
As there was only me on the course I had private lessons over the 4 days, in fact as I was struggling to grasp the technique my teacher even invited me back again for a 5th day., which was good of him. I personnel found my Mantra not so easy to remember and is not rhythmical as I would of imagine a mantra would be. This makes it quite hard for me to do the technique effortless as we are taught .
Anyway after 14 days / attempts I managed to crack it and found it rewarding. I think the mantra can make a difference for some people whether they grasp it straightaway or after persevering for sometime.
I am still very new into it so I guess need to keeping going for a few months to reap the benefits they claim to say it brings.
The guy that taught me I must say for his age he had the energy of someone 30 years younger, maybe just very good jeans or there is some truth in the technique, lets hope its the latter.
