For some patients, the use of a balloon may be most appropriate. In this type of endometrial ablation procedure, heated water circulates inside the balloon to ablate the endometrium. Dr. Kothari also uses a device with a small mesh, as well as cryoablation, a technique that freezes the lining of the uterus.
"There are quite a few different varieties available. Usually, I look at the patient, how many surgeries they have had, and I decide based on that, as to what ablation would be the best choice for her," says Dr. Kothari.
