  • Fine Gael, Labour and Fianna Fáil TDs react angrily to a proposal by Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams to close the Dáil bar as the House is sitting after midnight. The suggestion came after a number of TDs and Senators were clearly intoxicated as the IBRC Bill was rushed through last month.

Its bad enough that our image is tarnished abroad with the stereotype that we are a nation of drunks when you find that the government has a ready made watering hole in the very place the nation's business is being conducted.

It really does not reflect well on us.....from an Irishman abroad this is a non-argument. Close the bar, get on with working..............they were probably all pissed as parrots during those dark bank-guarantee days

Well the Palace of Westminster in London has several bars, and an MP was recently arrested for starting a drunken fight in one of them. I don't remember that happening in Ireland.
