  • A look inside the Laney VC15 - 110 combo.
This is a mark 1 version, the mark 2 has a digital reverb, the Ext speaker socket moved to the right of the rear panel and the effects loop have a sensitivity switch built in.
This was Laney's answer to the Vox AC15(?) in any case it's a wonderful little combo, but there don't appear to any clips showing the inside of one - hence the reason for one of my (as usual rather poor) videos. Here I just; take out the chassis, check components, clean the pots/faceplate and set the bias. As I say in the video, the schematic shows numerous surface mount components (about 60) but none of these are visible on the top, also some TL072 JFET op-amps & some transistors (BC847B & SO642) none of which can be seen, so must be on the other side of the board!
it will be interesting to compare this to the Modulus ROX15 kit after I've built it - due to arrive this week.

Mk1 has a parallel fx loop whereas later versions have a series fx loop which is more useful for most people. It’s a stretch to say it’s similar to an AC15, the preamp is Marshall-like with a cold clipper stage. It’s got a LOT of gain on the drive channel.
