I bought my V-strom in 2002, new, when I was a dad. Still have it and now 60k later, I'm a grandad. So technically it's also ALSO a grandad bike. Best bike I've ever owned.
I absolutely love my vstrom. I have a 2014 dl1000 and couldn't be happier with everything it is. The one major upgrade that improved my experience on the bike was an aftermarket windscreen. And, I got an exhaust for it, which makes it sound super tough. Can't say enough great things about the swiss army knife nature of this bike. Also can't imagine selling it with the reliability factor of it. I've got 42,000 miles on mine and it still runs great! The most under the radar bike out there imo.
Ditto. 60,000km and going strong. Goes everywhere, on and off road. Suspension set for my weight and riding, so no bottoming out. Its size freaks people out, but it feels a lot smaller when underway.

I got a 22 Vstrom 650 in September. First bike and yes I’m a dad. And I freakin love it. Simply couldn’t have been happier! Iv done about 6k and this thing is really starting to beak in and ride so smooth. Totally legit

Growing up as a teen owned many light weight trail & MX bikes. Montesa,Bultaco,Sachs,DKW, Husky and then the flood gates opened with Japanese bikes. Now an old dude a 05 DL 650 and a 06 DL 1000. V-Strom love . ✌Minnesota USA
Great content - like your presentation style. I have owned a Suzuki 1250 Bandit in the past - super cheap to buy and bullet proof. The specs showed it down on power in comparison to competion - but it was all about torque and the Bandit pulled like a train and was smooth like an electric bike. In the end i sold it because the wind noise generated from the screen drove me nuts. I am thinking about a Vstrom as mates have all gone adventure bike ( I have a 2007 BMW k1200gt - which is a bit scary for me on the dirt lol) - so your review was timely - thanks.
I like sports bikes but I never understood the fun of riding one on the streets. It’s borderline torture for me. Some of my friends ride sports bikes and when we stop for a break, they disembark like a clamshell 😂
I have the 2018 DL1000XAL8. I'm looking at possibly changing the front forks/wheels/brakes for the 2023 1050DE parts, need to talk to a mechanic to see if the parts can fit and if the computer can handle the 21" tire. It will only give me .5 inch more ground clearance, but much more front travel. I like mine the way it is, but lack if ground clearance and suspension travel have forced me to be careful of my lines and made me have to ride like a grandpa.😎
Had a 1050XT, and currently own a DR650. The V-Strom 1050XT was the one bike I regret selling, and seriously considering buying the new base model 1050 when it comes out. It's just such a capable bike, and 'boring'. Boring because it is so capable and without fault, that you don't worry about things you might on other bikes. I've had the DR for years, and it really is such a great bike. It's so playful, and a perfect 'hoon' bike that begs to be a constant project, despite being perfectly reliable. These days though, I enjoy boring.
I’m considering getting a strom 1k to pair with my dr650. The kids love riding my retro touring bike but it’s too bulky to push around in town. Need something bigger than the dr for two up
Choosing between the vstrom and s10 had to be tough! I’d take either, but I think the strom is the better bargain. Especially if it comes kitted like yours
That’s a great buy. And there’s no need to rush to a gs straight away, in 5-6 years when you want a bigger bike for touring they will be cheaper. You’ve got the wr for the bush riding and this bad boy for the hwy trips. Why change?
I owned a 2019 R 1250 GS Rallye. I prefer my 2020 V-Strom 1050 XT. The Suzuki is a better all-round adventure touring motorcycle for Australian conditions IMHO.
Great bike and a perfect stable mate for your 250. It's a lot off bike for the money. I agree that the 19" is a great compromise for on and off road. I've only gone to a 21" front on my 650 because I like pushing it's off road limits. Enjoyed the review.
Hi again from NZ, a point I wish to make point re the 2014 V Strom, like mine. From that year, they increased cc to 1037, which is the same engine as in the 1050. That figure is a model number, although, have seen bikes for sale 2014 plus, referred as 1050cc. That is an incorrect statement. Anyway AUSMOTO, I enjoy the video's, we speak the same language.
Yeah, I did check them out. Still debating whether I want to spend that kind of money on it. Given I managed to do the 1000k day, I reckon I might just put up with it haha!
Im looking at getting a v strom 1000 btween the year 2017-2019 i actually prefer this model over the new one. Dont see why they got rid of the push screen thats one of the things people loved about this bike

Is the ground clearance an issue? I've noticed they're shorter than other adventure models. I've been toying with the idea of either a v Strom 650 or the klr 650 to try adventure riding

Hi. AFAIK v-strom 650 comes with telescopic fork, but your`s one seems to have updown fork. So did you (or previos owner) replace the fork? What`s the model of the fork & how much did it cost ?
It's not really a 'problem'. It causes no extra wear on the clutch, it's just mildly annoying for some but I really actually don't mind hearing it hammer away when idling with clutch out.
@@AusMoto The problem becomes worse and worse over time, until it gives off powerful vibrations that`s really not doing cogs and bearings any good. And every single strom-rider out there that has had their clutch basket modified praises it that its the best upgrade they`ve done on the bike. It improves the riding experience so much. But yours has just not gotten that bad yet. Trust me: it will..

Agreed.. my vs1000 2014. Changed to givi airflow windscreen and SC project exhaust.

It is if you wanna do anything technical, if you’re just sticking to basic off-roading then it’s fine.

Did you consider the Tiger 800?
I did, and was close to leaning towards getting one but vstrom won out due to price and reliability!
I don't think the 800DE has cruise control.
