  • Ep. 06 - In this Video we help you understand how you can get a custom fitted Stock driver without having to take out a small mortgage. You see most of the Club Fitting Companies out there is truly goaled on selling you an expensive driver, but just as long as we remember, you're in complete control of the buying process, and although that $1,000.00 driver looks nice the question remains, how much better is it really over one of the many stock shafts that's available.

    Recently had two fittings - one with high end clubfitter and my second was a local fitter who has a good reputation. Told both fitters my budget. Swing speed is 75 mph, 68 years old, 7 handicap. Am a low ball player.
    After 3 o4 swings, the first fitter quickly went to custom shafts. Was not long before my budget exhausted. He would not listen to my request for more reasonable choices, so I packed up and left. I was there 20 minutes.
    Second fitter took his time, asked questions about me and my game. We tried 5 club heads - 3 were eliminated quickly (Callaway Ai Smoke, Taylormade Q, Srixon ZX5. Srixon ZX4, Mizuno Hot Metal HL stayed. Ended up with HL. Did try an up charge shaft, but the standard graphite shaft gave better results for distance,feel and dispersion. Felt good about the fitting and fitter so I ordered them.
    Thanks for your channel. It has given me the knowledge of what a fitting should be and the methodology that should be used. Very much appreciated!

    Found your channel this morning. I've watching a few videos and I love the approach you are taking!
    I went to an iron fitting a few weeks ago with the intent to being fit into one of Takomo's oem shafts and lie-angle. The fitter was really trying to sell me Taylormade P790. He tried to pull a curve ball by giving a shaft that actually fit me perfectly but he didn't realize it actually is one of Takomo's customized options. Hence, I am very happy for getting what I payed for but was left with a slightly bitter taste in my mouth.
    I ended up ordering the customized Takomos what I planned to.

      Thanks for the kind words and for sharing. I hate to say the practice of steering the fit happens more often then not, and generally you can see it a mile away. One of the ways I eliminate this, is at the start of the fit, I will select the heads I will want to try based on what I like or don’t like during the baseline capture. So I’ll pick 3-4 heads and I’ll give the customer a quick preview of why I may like these heads, and I also like to make an early prediction. This not only tests my ability with seeing the outcome before they ever swing, but man when you nail it, they are like how did you do that.😀

    Thanks for this As someone who is heading back to the course after some injuries and five years off. I need to narrow down my profile and shaft type before I even start to think about new club options, would you remind just doing a long game fitting ? Or maybe just a gapping session trying some various options ? since I think a full bag is too much for me to handle

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  Před 3 měsíci +2

      That’s not an unreasonable ask, we call this service Retro Fitting. So the goal it to find a different dance partner and see if there’s anything that can be done to improve the shot outcome without having fork over a ton of cash. I say it’s about a 50/50 split. Half the time we are fitting new and the other half we are upgrading components. Good question.

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  Před 3 měsíci +2

      The swing happens so fast so it really is hard to measure unless you have some form of sensor. With that said I like using a metronome app on your phone. And there you can set it up. And then match your swing to the beat. Go slower back and down and then faster back and down and then mix it up go slow to the top and then pull the rip cord. Generally you will find that you have better contact with one of those three approaches. Let me know if any of them and the app helps.

    John, thanx for all the 411. A question that I have while looking at the information. Why does the Tensei Blue have a stronger torque profile in X vs TX in the 65 gm weight?

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  Před 3 měsíci +3

      Good question, more than not MFG’s will use torque as a means to make a shaft feel stiffer or softer then the flex they have chosen for it to be at. So the only logical answer I can provide would be if they didn’t lower the torque in the TX it likely would have felt like a 2x4.

    Great video! Here's a question that I think is relevant. Let's say that one believes from past experiences they hit a shorter shaft better by far (dispersion even distance, due to quality of strike, and as evidenced by the pros themselves swinging avg 44.5 inch length, right?) than standard shaft length. If I'm a smooth transition 92 mph hitter, can I ballpark what shaft impacts this will have? (Shortening impacting stiffness and swing weight). --Maybe this just pushes me closer to the smooth 95-104 selection of stock shafts? I think I'll find better results starting with a driver around 44 inches, maybe 44.5, and then selecting among the stock shafts. But in a fitting, the fitters won't have the stock shafts already appropriately trimmed in length. Advice? Thanks much

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  Před 3 měsíci +2

      So fair question, all of our fit shafts are 45 1/2. And when we suspect going shorter can help we will go larger grip and choke down this way the grip doesn’t feel too small, and we can then get a sense for how the driver will perform at the shorter length. When we do this we will also increase the weight of the driver to offset lighter SwingWeight sensation as a result of choking down.

    Thank you for being honest. I cringe when guys in my golf group with 90 mph clubhead speeds go to a certain national clubfitting chain and get fleeced for drivers with exotic shafts and overall unnecessary charges that results in $1,000 to $1,200 price tags when they would have been just as well off with a standard stock line up at up to $600 less. There's just not that much of an incremental meaningful performance difference for guys at those clubhead speeds in most cases. Separation for golf balls, golf shafts and heads begin around 110 mph.

      Couldn’t agree more.

    • @Golf4LifeGrandview
      @Golf4LifeGrandview Před 3 měsíci +1

      Generally agree with your comment on shafts and clubs, however, there are benefits to being in the right ball especially if a player is going cheap like a Kirkland ball or any two piece ball. Players need to play a decent ball suited to their launch conditions. Easy way to optimize your current club set up

    • @SwingFit
      @SwingFit  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Won’t argue there GolfBalls at 100mph and under the affect of the GolfBall is still evident, it’s just not as profound as it gets when velocity picks up. If anything I will say more then not a little firmer ball for slower swings generally help with distance and a littler softer core can help with launch.
