- Vocal Coach Reacts To Lara Fabian | Adagio | Live | Ken Tamplin
If you guys aren’t familiar with Belgian-Canadian singer Lara Fabian, today is your lucky day. Lara is an absolute force.
Lara was born in Brussels but moved to Sicily where her mother was from until, she was 5. After moving back to Belgium she took up singing and dancing at 8 years old.
She went on to compete in many European singing contests including Eurovision in 1988. She ended up finishing fourth in the competition and her song “Croire” sold half a million copies.
In 1990 she moved to Canada and started a music label. She released a self-titled album in French which eventually went platinum in Canada but found her breakthrough with her 1993 album “Carpe diem”, which went gold after three weeks and triple platinum the following year.
Fabian also provided the voice for Esmerelda in the French release of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1996.
In 1996, she became a Canadian citizen and has gone on to sell over 20 million records worldwide.
Today I’ll be reacting to an epic performance of her hit “Adagio”. I hope you all enjoy the video and please be sure to let me know what you thought!

If she had been born in the United States or England she would surely be considered by the media to be the best ever.
Absolutely, wexle bueno
I totally agree with that, she is the best of the bests, living legend !
No matter we all know she is and will always be the best ever. It only happens once in a lifetime. I am blessed to have been exposed to her.
But she is ...in Europe! Where it metters, where the art is was born.
As time goes by, people will do her justice and they will recognize she is the GOAT: no other singer has half much of her talent.
She sings fluently in 4 languages, she embodies her songs, she wrote most of her songs, she has an incredible vocal range, several of her covers are considered better than the originals (some even think she wrote these songs).
All respect to Celine Dion, but to me Lara Fabian is a much more dynamic and better singer... every tone, wovel and effort is so passionate. That woman IS an instrument. So much of everything so easily and balanced. Love her!
Lara is lovely!
Laras voice is devine....Happy new year btw. Ur doing a great job man
I seen Celine's show in Vegas. What a disappointment. Clearly using "Autotune" and recorded voice tracks. And when she did use her own voice, the screeching was unbearable ! If my sister in law hadn't insisted on seeing this mess of a performance I would have walked out ! She was gushing after the show, "did you see the gowns" ? Like I give a crap about dresses. And anyone that say's Celine doesn't use "Autotune" is full of crap. I have been a musician for 60 years, I know it when I hear it ! And if you don't believe me, believe the guy that invented it ! czcams.com/video/9OUgXFZ_WeY/video.html

No one can generate goosebumps like Lara. Most singers that use this amount of decorations fail. But along with her vibrato variations, every turn, every fall, just sounds impeccable.
She's amazing!!
@@kentamplin a beautiful person in her heart and in her body and in her voice:)

Exactly. The goosebumps go in your soul.
This performance is a vocal bomb. Her power and resonance is incredible.
👍👍👍
Seen her front row in a concert. She is easily one of the very best female vocalists on the planet. Also seen Mariah Carey live. But I prefer Lara she is perfection on every level of the meaning . Cheers from Finland.
Rock on! 🎤
she sings smiling, laughing, crying ... she is beautiful, powerful and emotional

I am a huge fan of Lara Fabian. She is one of the best singers in the world. I also generally love French chanson. That's why Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel are among them. These singers sing with so much feeling, that's insane.
She's wonderful!
Chansons Françaises are romantic :)
I love Lara she is very famous in France. She was compared a lot to Céline Dion in France at the beginning of her singing career. I do prefer her singing in french. But this performance is awesome .
She's awesome, martine2a0!
Lara singing in spanish is awesome too!. She speaks perfectly that language.
she also sings in Portuguese, her pronunciation is very good! She used to make a huge success in BR in 90's and 2000 years.

8:40. Ken I think she did that on purpose. If you hear her "Je Suis Malade" in the same show, she does that effect (coming in and out of the vibrato) again. I know it´s supposed not to do that, but a great artist, can break the rules. The result is killer!.
Thanks for letting me know, Miguel!
She does do it on purpose. It's her method of moving from vibrato into the trail off ending that leads to the exhale that concludes the song. If you listen to the original album cuts, she does it in both the English and Italian versions.
She does that on purpose, not only in this song… 💖🌸✨
Contrary to Celine Dion (my opinion), Lara actually has a pleasant, lovely voice. And she's absolutely gorgeous.
She's great, Roguishly Handsome!
I totally agree with you
@@gialiliane2089 i am not fan of Céline, Lara sounds better to me
but there are other ladys like Corine bailey rae and colbie caillat who sounds great to me
Lara is amazing, but Céline along with Whitney and Mariah are worldwide legends.
@@gonzaloponte2011 and most of the fame actually comes from singing for famous movies. All of the three examples are famous thanks to that. On the contrary, think about other talented singers - for example Lara, or Dimash - they aren't as wide-known. A lot of tv show appereances, award shows etc., make you recognized more easily
You say she lost breath on that last belt but if you watch again...after that last long note...she pauses, and exhales! She had plenty of breath. I think when Lara is singing, whatever you're hearing is what she wants you to hear...
...she actually makes a point to visibly exhale...pretty sexy if you ask me
Thank you. 👍
Adagio is incredible music, Lara is the most impressive singer of the last 30 years, and your video is perhaps her best interpretation of Adagio in English. I never bought one of his albums, it's not my kind of music, but there's no one who gives me so much emotion. It lasts 5 minutes, and it constantly rises in emotion, this interpretation is stratospheric, out of the ordinary. This woman is not from this world XD
I love your videos Ken, thank you for your work !
Hello 👋 From Morocco 🇲🇦
On that historic evening, Lara Fabian took the Adagio to another level.. 😨🎤
" Adagio" It means in Italian "slowly", Lara killed us slowly.
With all due respect to the artist Dimash
A wonderful analysis from you, based on your artistic and musical experience
The last part where she changed vibrato to straight tone made me think if this is some kind of art thing. The song Adagio means tempo, she IS finding the tempo of her life, to get that strength and courage and stuffs, so it is not simply about finding a man that we all thought. And again, the fact that she changed vibrato to straight tone means that she has found the right tempo.
Very stoked Ken finally chosen a vocal and emotional giant such as Lara to react and comment on. Personally I prefer Ken to react to Lara's "Je Suis Malade" but "Adagio" is good too. Maybe next time eh?
Maybe.
No one can EVER be on top of this interpretation... That will be a CLASSIC
😀👍
I'm glad she is human! The way she put her emotion in this song is breathtaking! I can buy that some of the schoolbook stuff is not always in place. And you need to be trained to even hear it, which most of us isn't. Her combination of technique and emotion is stunning. Such a dynamic singer.
Thanks for sharing!
Top of the universe performance indeed. She's a goddess in this video.
👍👍👍
I never heard of her until now. Amazing performance and stunningly beautiful!
Truly!
Take a trip down the Lara Fabian rabbit hole on YT, it's the greatest thing ever!

Ken, that is headbanging there. I observe singers, most of the time, rock singers, do that in the height of their performance.
Hello very perfect voice and song very emotional lara Fabian is a icon and legend artist of the world thank you good day all people kiss and love all people peace
Thank you! Lara deserved a visit on your channel.

Lara is classically trained like Dimash since age 5. She's French Italian living in Canada. She does a trio with D imash and Aida Garifullina and wrote the lyrics to Dimash's new masterpiece Your Love. Not to be missed.
Thank you!

Lara Fabian did not lose her range. She now signs more moderately as she aged and wants to be able to sing for many years to come. In fact she gained some low notes.
Thank you.
@@kentamplin thank you for reacting to her. I like your channel !
Hello Ken, I'm a Lara fan, she is the best singer ever. I prefer adagio in Italian, and I recommend to you, she wrote both, Italian and English texts with the music of adagio to Albioni. She sing in French, italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Turkish, Russian, Jewish, Greek, Azerbaijan, and napolitan and Sicilian of course. I know Italian, Spanish,English and napolitan very well so I can say she sing perfectly in this 4, naturally, she speak fluid French, italian, English and Spanish so is easily for her, but singing in Russian or Turkish or Greek and do it well is remarkable. It's not so easy sing in two languages, make that in twelve is amazing! I recommend earing her in all languages...and tell me what you think.👍
That is pretty amazing, miro roguez!
She is half Sicilian from Catania.....
The composer of the music is Tomaso Albinoni (not Albioni). The famous Albinoni’s Adagio. (Adagio in Italian means slow movement or slow piece)

Im French and Lara was a coach in The Voice France 2020 and she was a really good coach and her voice is just gorgeous 😍
Awesome, Boom Game!
I think others may have already commented on these, but the couple of critiques you made on her technique where "she should have been able to..." regarding breathiness, vibrato are choices she made. The critique is good to mention for those still learning because mastering how to do something "properly" or "correctly" is important to then being able to make that artistic choice. That breathiness she's chosen to use here she doesn't choose for other songs, and sometimes for different performances.
Ten years of studying at the Conservatory in Brussels is one thing; a solid foundation of technique to build that artistry. Continuing lessons to this day, not relying on "I'm a professional and I know what I'm doing" but always desiring to work on her craft is another. This is a woman who KNOWS her instrument and has never allowed others to pressure her into pushing the limits of what her voice can do, like some other singers have.
Not sure if anyone else mentioned that she, Dimash and Aida Garifullina performed Ti Amo Cosi in Moscow. She sounded great. Well, I mean, they all three did, of course.
👍👍👍
The TV version will premier on 2 January 😊
Thank you for doing this, Ken! She is my favorite female singer. Such resonance and emotion!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, R M!

How about one of most impressive voices ever. I never heard such a voice. Complete control..yes that's right ladies & gentlemen a Bjork analysis
👍👍👍
Wooow what a awesome performance
She still manages to reach the same notes that she used to.. she always sang adagio half step down the original key and in 2018 she started singing it in the original key.. she still reaches up to g5 singing broken vow. Of course she aged, shes 50 now but saying that "it has cost her her higg notes" thats not accurate.. 2018 and 2019 are all over youtube to prove that

Greetings from Croatia Mr. Ken Tamplin 👍✌️
Thanks for watching, Marin!
Ken, I've listened to some other performances by Lara doing "Adagio" and believe it or not, she ends this song basically the same way every time. Her not going into a vibrato at the end of the last note IMHO is probably intentional on her part. Every performance I've seen of her singing of this song ends exactly the same way and I've seen quite a few. I'd love you to critique Lara's song and performance of "Broken Vow" from this same concert, "From Lara With Love" in 2000. As always, love your channel!

Wow kEN, YOU OFFER SUCH WONDERFUL CRITIQUES. YOU'RE SO KNOWLEDGEABLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXCELLENT CRITIQUE ON ADAGIO BY LARA fABIAN. aS I MENTIONED ABOUT THIS SONG EARLIER IN A COMMENT I MADE. I THINK LARA HAS BEEN HEARTBROKEN REAL BAD, SDOOO BAD SHE REMEMBERS THE PAIN AND AGONY OF IT AND IT COMES OUT IN SOME OF HER SONGS. ANOTHER ONE IS Je SUIS MALADE, BUT NOT QUITE EMOTIONAL AS ADAGIO. Lara IS AN ACTRESS THE CONSUMMATE PERFORMER, LIKE ELVIS WAS I'M NOT OVERRLY PROUD OF HIS MOVIES . ONE THING IS FOR SURE, SHE RETAINED WHAT SHE WAS TAUGHT AT THE CONSERVATORY.
The best vocal.lara Fabian the best
She's awesome, Miriam!
Oh yes , Lara is one of the best contemporary singers & most artistic for sure . "Adagio" is very emotional of course , but her duet with Johnny Hallyday(the legend and the icon of French rock ,one of the best selling rockstars worldwide ) "Requiem for a fool" is probably most intense performance I've ever seen , it's worth checking out & reacting to . Besides listening to Lara and watching her beauty express itself here are some interest facts I found out about her. She is the only child of Pierre Crokaert, who is Flemish, and Maria Luisa Serio, who is Sicilian. Fabian’s parents recognized her talents early on and enrolled her in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels when she was just eight years old. She actually sings in eleven languages: French, English, Spanish, Italian, Flemish, German, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Portuguese and Russian. And as far as speaking she is also multilingual, she speaks Italian, French, Spanish, Sicilian, English and Flemish. She's not only beautiful and talented, she's really smart. I feel this is part of her appeal and what makes her who and what she is.

Hahaha, here in the Philippines, we call that "headbang" and the rock stars as headbangers. 😅 I think singers do headbang or riff in the peak of their performance. That's just what I observed. And always, in both situations, I feel amazed and they have my full attention, waiting for grandeur and as always I feel exhausted but still clapping my hands. I love concerts and I miss it now

Wonderful!
We were on the same show together in Beijing and she was a sweetheart. Jaw droppingly in person!
Wonderful! Thanks for the visit. Rock on!
She never lost control of anything. Her performances are all masterclasses. I don't think you have gone deep enough into Lara's work to truly understand why she is head and shoulders above all of the other great singers like Celine, Mariah, Whitney, etc. It's about the total person. While the legends we all know because of their coverage in the media are excellent, all of them are a commercially packaged production. And, they act like it. Lara is genuine and a very sweet person, who refused to be commercially controlled. That gives everything she does a true honesty and really heartfelt emotions. I think many of the other great singers leave me cold. I worked with many big names in my career but Lara just "feels" better than them all. I never liked to compare Celine or Mariah to Lara. Totally different emotional styles. One singer, with whom I had the pleasure of working, was Karen Carpenter. Now she was a singer who made you feel every single word and you felt her honesty. Never full of herself. Totally sweet and humble. Another favorite is Agnetha from ABBA. Beautiful lady and amazing singer. There is a huge difference between a vocal entertainer and an artist. Don't get me wrong. The "legends" are still phenomenal. I am a big fan of Mariah for sure. But Lara just has a resonance in her voice that can't be equalled. Many times you can hear all of the overtones as she sings. That's probably why the call her The Ring. Her songs also are very very deep and full of passion and sensitivity. Again, setting her apart from other "commercial" artists. It's a total package Lara brings that has won her so many loyal fans. She sings in 12 languages! But also she moves people who natively speak those 12 languages. Hard to beat.
Canadian, yes! Beautiful girl, even more beautiful voice! 😊
Unfortunately I haven't heard of her till now! But fortunately, I'm subscribed to Ken! 🤗
Yay!!!
This concert, From Lara With Love, was filmed in Montreal to introduce her to the U.S. The whole thing is a master class and a great place to start. Going down the Lara rabbit hole on YT is the greatest thing ever!
You paused right at the worst place to pause! Lol.Glad you backed up. I don't know that I agree she lost much at all over the years. She has a rep for having a famously healthy technique. She makes a lot of choices in different songs at different times, but she's not using the same costly technique(s) exclusively. If she's had any issues the past several years I think they trace to the accident where the tech sent 1000hz (?) Into her ear monitor, knocking her to the ground and sending her to the ER. Resultant ear problems, infections left her with some permanent damage. There's a fan vid called Lara vs Lara vs Lara on youtube with clips from the same songs over 20 years you might get a kick out of watching.
Anyway thanks for the reaction.
I doubt that a sound frequency of 1000 Hz could damage the ear. Maybe just a loud sound in decibels meant. But singers reach and perform to note F8 (~5500 Hz) while singing
It was a freak accident. She couldn't even stand her kid's voice and was in isolation, I think for 9 months. And now she has Meniere's disease as a result.
Yikes!
@@Jeki_toki Honestly, the kHz didn't make sense to me, but it was from a really bad English translation, so the translator might have gotten their units wrong. It resulted in severe edema and repeated infections because she tried to get back to/keep doing her concerts. Knowing now that Meniere's resulted, well damn. What a nightmare for anyone, much less a singer. 🤐
@FeatherStep I think this is a fail (she seldom does this, but I think she could sustain the vibrato). Indeed, I watched other interpretations where she could sustain the note. To be fair, we have to remember that Adagio comes at the end of the concert where each and every previous performances are legendary.
And GOD BLESS YOU TOO, Ken! You are SO kind. Thank you for this wonderful channel. God will bless you for it.
Thank you, Shay. Merry Christmas.
@@kentamplin Merry Christmas to you and your Family as well. 🎄🎄🎄
Italian mother, Belgian father, born in Belgium, grew up in Italy and Belgium. But for the US she is ‘Canadian’. Mystery.
lara fabian is amazing!! you should check out Dimash's rendition of adagio in new wave 2018 it is amazing!
Thanks for the suggestion.
Wow, she’s amazing! I do agree she sounds like Celine Dion!
But it’s reminiscent of her right after Celine won Eurovision in 1988, that was the contest that really launched her career. Celine is French Canadian, she started out releasing French albums at a very young age. So perhaps Lara Fabian grew up listening to Celine?
Could be.
Such a complex singer. Enjoyed immensely
👍👍
I looove this performance! Lara is amazing! Good video well done!
