Def Jam: Fight for NY is a gem. The choice to mix up fighting styles, interactive environments, and weapons made that game a masterpiece. It really sucks the series died off afterwards.

in the takeover added the knockdown and ground an pound and some other things that are actually good, but fucked up everything else, like why change the counter mechanics?

@@omegarugal9283 Sadly the Takedown wasn't as polished, and they added some cool features that completely broke the game. For example, you could "stack" fighting styles. So instead of having kickboxing + streetfighting + wrestling, you could have streetfighting + streetfighting + streetfighting. Great concept, but it resulted in 15 second fights as the haymaker was completely and utterly OP.

If they would just remaster the games up to FFNY for next gen consoles, it'd be a HIT.
The only problem with that is they have too many individuals in the game that are not with Def Jam no more. This game is a Copyright bomb waiting to go off if they tried to resell it.

@@desicijack they took out the best part of the game, the “blazin’s†(finishing moves like finishers from wrestling games) they slowed the game down WAY too much, and the story was nowhere near as good as the fight for New York’s.

After watching Fight Club, I tried to find games closer to the genre of that movie and I landed on Takeover. No regrets afterwards.

I would like for this franchise to make a big comeback! So many music artists and celebs since then. Maybe Ed Boon from the Mortal Kombat/ Injustice games can do something with it

There should’ve been two prequels called Def Jam: Old Skool (1980s) and Def Jam: Fight For LA (1990s).
Where we play as characters in teams (like in The King of Fighters) of legendary rappers such as N.W.A., Public Enemy, KRS ONE, Run D.M.C., Beastie Boys, Geto Boys, Salt-N-Pepa, 2 Live Crew, Digital Underground, Naughty by Nature, X-Clan, EPMD, etc.

You do realize that the game is called Def Jam because that is the record label that produced the game and that all the rappers in the game were signed to at the time. So they couldn’t just put whatever rapper they wanted on the game. Only the rappers signed to def jam could be in the game, and now there aren’t that many rappers signed to Def Jam.

Defjam ffny takeover is actually an expansion of the original ffny with added fight mechanics. They should remaster that version on consoles and PC with online play.

The Takeover is garbage. They made counters not matter and added a bunch of unnecessary fluff that made the game worse.

Takeover was actually the best, you actually battled by the burroughs, you could mount opponents and perform all new finishers from the ground, the inventory had more products with more customization and you could stack the same Fighting style for extra moves or bonus attributes to the style
They need to come up with a remake or another new fun and exciting game like this. Been patiently waiting….👀 I truly enjoyed designing my characters & watching them beat down rappers I grew up listening too lol 😂 if they ever make another one, they should include all famous people lol that’d be dope 🎥

Vendetta and FFNY will always be the best, hands down. Takeover is just a psp version of FFNY, whichblooks worse than the original as well as the play style looks 50x slower. Icon made no sense and rapstar had lotwrally nothing to do with fighting, just basically a rap version of guitar hero/rockband

It still baffles me why they have never tried to make another DEF jam fighting game like vendetta or fight for New York and make a deal with some of these newer rappers and make millions.Especially with rap music still being the most popular genre today.
I think they never made another is because they ran out of ideas and because so desperate that they had someone else make it and ruined it from Def Jam: Icon.

DJ Icon was a real let down, after I found it I played for a while and thought it was cool but eventually just saw that there was a a lot that was missing that made the other ones cool and things. Overall it really seemed like much less effort was put into it

A remaster is not gonna happen. It would be a licensing nightmare. You can play the game on an emulator for free and upscale it, though.
