  • For my first ever Global Big Day we set a challenge to see over 100 species of birds in a single day! This day turned out to be epic! Watch and see if I was able to hit the goal.

Global Big Day is the largest birding day of the year. It strategically takes place right in the middle of migration, and birders all over the world head out and submit species they have seen. The goal of a "big day" is usually to see as many species as you can in a single day. For us, we set the bar at 100 total species on the day. We had our route planned, our goal set, and it was on us to execute. If you want to read more about Global Big Day, check out this article from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology:

As for water-birds / shorebirds, in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR, Singapore 🇸🇬, and Malaysia 🇲🇾 shore banks, riverside, mudflats, one can see the White-breasted Waterhen picking or searching for crustaceans.

The Red-winged Blackbird is “considered” pretty aggressive in California, not only do they fly in huge flocks, but they do attack anyone during mating season. That is what I understand and heard during my college days back in the 80s ! 🤔🤔🤔

I’ve never seen them attack people but they definitely are territorial

Speaking of “chickadee”, in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR, I see the Cinerious Tit on a weekly basis.

In and around my area in the New Territories of Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR, I occasionally see the Chinese Blackbirds. By the way, I heard about the California gulls are very aggressive when it comes to snatching food as they eat just about anything that is yummy to them. Please correct me if I am mistaken…… 🤔
