    Murray, I used your brilliant advice years ago. Over the years, the electrical tape became “worn in, or worn out”. I put up with the agonizing creaking sound for months before I bravely applied a little more electrical tape. I didn’t want to test the maximum limit of tape beyond which a problem develops. The additional tape silenced the annoyance. Brilliant! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

    Thanks Murray. Many thanks for your great advice. I added wd40 to the moving parts. Strangely, it removed much of those annoying rattling sounds. I suspect its because of the car ageing and that the gears do not move as freely. Solid roof panels are supposed to have some degree of free play, so to allow for the panels to move a bit when car is moving over humps. So, when this free play is constrained, that may have brought about the rattling noises. My car is a 2010 e89 z4. Your wd40 suggestion worked wonderfully! Just spray on the moving parts! yay!

    Absolutely worked. Just bought an IS350 that rattled like crazy. A nickels worth of Gorilla Tape and ten minutes, and it’s like driving a different car. Thanks!!!!!!!

    You're the man. I used electrical tape on the front header posts and the rear lateral strut brace hinge where there is a pivot point that has a metal-metal stop. I also put silicone spray on the window seals. Now the car is like driving a solidly made hard top - hasn't been this quiet since I bought it (2002 Mustang GT). Thanks so much! Tim

    It is lovely to read the comments and know that I have been able to help some people. But unfortunately it has been over something as insignificant as to how to avoid an annoying noise when you hit a bump.

    It seems to have worked and I hear way less noise but I wish you would have explained and slowed down as you did it step by step. It was very difficult trying to decipher and freeze the phone as you did it. I guess beggars can’t be choosers

    Be careful with putting tape on the front studs where the top attaches to the front windshield. The tape stopped the top from attracting and I had to assist it by pushing. Luckily I was able to get the top to come down so I can remove the front half of the tape that soft it from retracting. Other than that definitely has helped with rattle

    “If it doesn’t move and should use the WD40 and if it moves and shouldn’t use the duct tape” words to live by!!

    My IS250C has a rattle on the driver side where the top attaches to the windshield area. The passenger side is good and tight. I'll have to give this a try. I may use the loop part of hook and loop fasteners instead of duct tape.

      Hello, could you please let me know if you were able to fix the rattle? My daughter's car IS250C has a rattle on the same side, and I would love to get advice on how to fix it.

      @@brents7858 it has been six years since I did the procedure I described in the video. There has been no rattle ever since, the duct tape is still doing its job

    Very insightful thank you. How were you able to stop the roof retraction at the various points?

    • @murrayRgibbins
      @murrayRgibbins  Před 4 lety +1

      By pressing the Open or Close roof switch during the roof opening or closing procedure.
