Added note on the Phyrexian Plaguelord flavor text. It was actually spread over multiple cards in the same set (Urza's Legacy) that were also referencing each other mechanically and describing different, escalating stages of an illness: Phyrexian Denouncer, Phyrexian Debaser, Phyrexian Defiler and ultimately Phyrexian Plaguelord.
I like when they do that, i.e. have cards reference each other in flavor text
I remember back in the day when the Northern/Southern/Eastern/Western Paladin cards Flavor text were basically them dunking on each other for example
The Phyrexian progress notes also show up on Engineered Plague and later Plague Engineer, although those don't talk about the four stages of phyresis.

In all seriousness, jump start seems like a fun product. I played a lot of it on arena, I bought a box to draft with friends, but I haven't had a chance yet. I definitely approve of it it more than the jump start that they've been releasing with individual sets, but yeah it's a good product.

The Jumpstart Dominaria was basically just theme boosters but renamed to try and sell them, since the theme boosters were pretty trash.
I was that guy Graham assembled ultimate Expedia against. Not pictured in his tweet was my sad 4/5 Titania and a field full of lands that weren't Argoth. Wish I could have given G a better game, but glad I could provide a nice moment. I did manage to meld Titania a couple times in other games that draft though.

The artist referenced by Cameron while speaking about Phyrexian Plaguelord was I believe Zdzisław Beksiński, an incredible Polish painter with terrible story.

that uktabi story was great. love it when cards have links. innistrad was before my time but when i learned that shadows' grapple with the past follows on from make a wish, i had to get a copy.
now that i think of it, i'm pretty sure i learned that from you on an episode of crack-a-pack.

Thanks for this insight. I feel like art and mechanics usually come first but flavour text and lore is so important to a great card and building a multiverse that ppl want to explore further. It's really cool that contractors can also influence the art and have so much creative freedom

I just realized, as a non English speaker, that the translation work must be pretty hard in order to keep flavour and all. I guess it would be hard to get to speak to a translator but if it had to be one could it be a Spanish one? Great show!

Re: Nickname character limit
Speaking as someone who pasted the entirety of The Love Song of Night and Day for the card of the same name, I get it. I just hope the character limit isn't so restrictive that it stops my various rewrites of the 1967 Spider-Man theme song that I am prone to submitting.

J22 will unfortunately not be coming to Arena as-is, but according to WotC Ian, "It’s going to be a while before you can see what we’re doing instead, but you’ll be like 'oh! Okay.'"

@@Mordalon I used to like Historic quite a lot. Alchemy is terrible in all iterations because WOTC shoehorned it into Historic. If it weren't for that I could just say "well it's not for me so I don't care" but instead WOTC forces me to have an optional, and my opinion is that it is all shit
I do appreciate all of these continuity follow-ups, from Kibo to the Plaguelord. (Also, adding "Kibo and the Plaguelords" to my list of good band names.) Looking forward to submitting nicknames for BRO.

I actually really enjoyed jumpstart's flavor text tone even as a self-described "Curmudgeon" at the current state of the game. Granted my obvious bias as a long-time fan of LRR, but I feel the flavor text does naturally give a lot of pizazz to what is in my mind functionally a core-set.
18:22 That Peacewalker Colossus art is specifically a reference to the mech Knight of Gold (in particular the Gothicmade version), from the series Five Star Stories, and as it so happens, Knight of Gold's pilot is the God Emperor Amaterasu, so that's a very apt comparison.
Look, the Kibo story is amazing, but did anybody think to record it when Wheeler found out they were printing a Monkey that makes eggs and grows?

My only issue with the Jumpstart 2022 is that the subtheme is not actually "Anime" but ""cute"" anime girls 99% of the time, which is disappointing, but I completely agree that since they are all reprints it's mostly fine.
they rly destroyed the jumpstart brand by labeling their themed boosters as jumpstart to sell them better.
Nah they just reprinted tons of useless and or alredy reprinted cards. That s what killed it for me

Jumpstart is a format that utilizes a specific type of pack. Like Draft.
Jumpstart DMU, Jumpstart BRO, are packs for their respective sets, designed for Jumpstart.

Peacewalker Colossus just gives huge Gurren Lagann mech energy to me. Love all the anime arts though, they're just fun.

So much MTG product coming out that Tap Tap Concede (& LRR as a whole) are missing out products, like Brothers War Jumpstart (which sucks).
I think it's a good idea to ditch the single-gender creature thing in general. Why not open the door to show those characters as being able to present however they'd like? There are plenty of other ways to make a fantasy race interesting besides, "what if these ones were only hot ladies?"
