Share PS2 SMB Games From USB Using TP Link Wireless Travel Router Tutorial (2019)

  • Today's tutorial has been long awaited. In a nutshell, I will show you how to use TP Link Wiress Travel Router (I'm using TL-WR902AC) to share PS2 USB games through SMB share to the PS2. This assumes you have a way to boot OPL (Open PS2 Loader).
    This solution is awesome because its portable solution and the router boots quickly (less than 10 seconds) and your games are ready to be network share. It's less complicated in some regards when compared to PC network sharing or raspberry pi SMB sharing.
    I love this solution because PS2 SMB game compatibility is much better than USB for sure. You can use FAT32 or NTFS for the USB device, which is great.

    This totally works, I had to import this mini router from Amazon.
    Followed the steps, used OPL Manager to set a NTFS USB stick of 64 GB, placed a Dual Layer PS2 game which is Wild Arms Alter Code F and it works! No splitting necessary.
    If you have a laptop, it's the best to use in the setup. If you only have a Desktop, you may have to get a cheap Wifi antenna or USB.

    Important fact! If you are using this adapter from the video then Always Use the Original adapter that this router came with from the box because you might or might not have cutscene/glitches issues on some games! (For example I was always having issues with this “Onimusha:Dawn of Dreams” game where it would always freeze after defeating stage 1 boss/was a little glitchy) because I was using the USB port on the front of my ps2 slim to directly power up this router but after 9 while months! I tried using the original adapter of this router(for another irrelevant reason) to power it and Voila! My game didn’t freeze and was no longer glitchy.

    Revisiting this guide again and this time, experimenting external optical disc drive working with LAN SMB and it really WORKS. But, there's one caveat - you will need a specific model of external optical drive that have USB Flash Drive emulation feature which converts optical disc drive functionality into USB drive like LiteON eBAU108 USB external optical drive. The external optical disc drive should be connected with the mini USB router and setup as usual.
    Every time when booting the PS2 console, always eject the tray and press and hold the eject button until LED green appears and then insert it back and launch OPL as usual. Able to run but disc access is bit slower than running through flash drive. ISO files needs to be converted via USButil.

    Thank you for this guide, I just ordered a TL-WR902AC! I will use external power for the router as it seems to be recommended across the board, but what about external power for the storage device? • @ProjectPhoenixMedia
      @ProjectPhoenixMedia  Před měsícem

      I have not had the need or desire to use a usb powered hard drive that is of very high capacity. Most drives that I know you would want a power adapter. I think you may run into troubles if using a 2tb drive that is only usb powered so don't be surprised if issues may result. If you limit your library to the games you really are going to play, then 2TB is likely overkill. Let me know what you end up doing and how well it works!

    • @hassanshamsedin7335
      @hassanshamsedin7335 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ProjectPhoenixMedia I figured it out!! So it won't work for smb games cuz when you go into the internet settings in the game of your choice (mine's Star Wars Battlefront 2) it won't be able to detect the ethernet port at the back because that's where the games are streaming to. So what you need to do is pick the game you wanna play online with and convert it using USBUtil and put it on a USB thumb drive, then play it like that. Hook up your PS2 by ethernet cable to either your home router OR your portable router from this video (convert it to Share Hotspot mode first though) and then you just create a new network profile from within the internet (not LAN) settings in Battlefront 2 for example.
      Sorry for the long write-up haha but you've been the biggest help and this is the least I can do to pay you back! Plus I can provide you with the DNS server that I use for Battlefront 1 and 2! It's a group called SWBFSpy and some people still go online! This DNS bypasses Sony's DNAS confirmation page (DNAS doesn't work anymore so it just hangs forever) once you connect to the internet.

      @@ProjectPhoenixMedia I was able to make it work. My mistake was creating a folder named "PS2SMB" on the root of an USB Flash Drive connected to the nano router's USB port instead of directly putting OPL's folders in its root but now I'm having FMVs with no audio in a game (The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer) from the USB Flash Drive just like I do if I play this game from the external HDD connected to my laptop so I guess I'll keep the games on my external HDD and copy them to the PC's HDD when I want to play them because that way I don't have this FMV problem so I'll stop using this nano router method.
      Also, I skept the "Quick Setup" part in the video, used "DHCP" instead of "Static" in "- PS2 -", "IP Address Type" and used "192.168.0.1" in " -SMB Server -", "Address Type".
      EDIT: I tested this game from an external HDD connected to the nano router's USB port and not only the same FMVs also have no audio, they also have a loud buzz-like sound just like if play it from an external HDD connected to the PC's USB port.
      EDIT 2: Weird, now I'm having the same issue but this time while playing this game from the PC's HDD unlike before so in that case I might as well use the nano router after all.
      EDIT 3: Now a FMV from a different game (Yakuza) played from an external HDD connected to the nano router's USB port is stuttering. I'll test it with the USB Flash Drive connected to the nano router's USB port.
      EDIT 4: This FMV also stutters if played from the USB Flash Drive connected to the nano router's USB port so I guess I'll stop using the nano router and go back to store the games on an external HDD and copy them to the PC's HDD to play them from there since this way I have less stuttering, at least.

      Copy them as PSU via uLE/wLE to a USB-Stick and there was a VMC-Util, which supports importing save-files. You might need to convert the PSU to another file-type tho'.
      You might as well create a thread on a forum, for this specific 'issue'/request.

      Sure, you can host the games on the laptop, smb share the folder (make sure smbv1 is enabled) and if your ps2 has correct network settings, you are good to go. I have some smb network videos with ps2 and pc you can check in the ps2 modding playlist.
