Today is also the EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY OF MY CHANNEL! Share your favorite NICKtendo moment below!
Mine is when I gaslit commenters into correcting me about a 1,013 year old time gap.
Pickle Nick
that time you infected me with clone high brainrot
The joke you find she Male shaggy hot was funny. Then you denied it.
my favorite moment is the first time I ever watched your videos🥲
Oh and your cameo in a toonrific tariq video
My favorite moment was when you made a best of the 2010's list
I subscribed to the "whatever the heck Adult Swim was doing in the early 2000s" airing order. Did not realize Futurama had such strong continuity and arcs until I rewatched the show as an adult.
I subscribed to the "Comedy Central rerunning the show at 5pm" order, from about 2012 until when The Office came to the network and bumped the show into the overnight hours. I then watched the show on FXX, where it's the true production order.
Funny how the show made more sense in production order.
I watched it on Hulu for the first time, I was pretty confused with the on and off nature of Fry and Leela lol. One episode they were confessing their love, and the next one she doesn't know he likes her or something
@@inyruiTo be fair, even in production order Fry and Leela's relationship was very on-and-off. You had episodes like Fry am the Eggman after The Late Phillip J. Fry.
Continuity and Retrocontinuity :D Both are good.
Fun Fact: In early production, Hermes' original name was Dexter, and he was not Jamaican until after the first of his lines were recorded.
Really never knew that
Makes sense given how different the voice he had was. Always just figured it was LaMarr finding the character.
"i thought you were some outer space potato man"
I remember them talking about this in the DVD commentaries.
Back when I watched Futurama on Netflix The straight to DVD films actually used the film cuts instead of the TV versions, I remember this vividly because one night I wanted to watch at least one more episode of Futurama before I went to sleep, and it turns out the episode I selected was One of the films and I didn't notice how long the runtime was. So at that point I'm halfway through the movie with my eyes feeling insanely heavy, and I just realized this episode has gone on way longer than it normally does, because it wasn't an episode.
That's so cool
Aren’t films in episodes to
@@theartoonnerdologist411 at the time I was watching on Netflix It was listed as one season with four episodes, each episode being one of the movies.
@@chrisfratzOn the DVD boxset of the show (at least the one I have), it's listed as season 6 and is also split into 4 movies, instead of 16 episodes.
i remember this!! i used to fall asleep with the movies playing in the background, especically into the wild green yonder, and the cut bender line nick (why tf did i call him mark) brought up was actually there! :)
Teletoon aired both the uncut films AND the made-for-TV episodes for the films at the same time, so it was cool seeing where and when things would get cut out.
I also remember the CW airing Futurama in the early 2010s and them having little “we’ll be right back/you’re watching Futurama” bumpers with new recorded dialogue over pre-existing footage. I don’t think those have been uploaded anywhere yet.
Oh, and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
Futurama is so unique in how it’s encouraged to watch everything in production order. I do my best to watch every show I can in the order intended, so Futurama rewarding you with a better show says something about how much the writers wanted its stories to click.
I prefer OK K.O.!'s HBO MAX order (Before it got purged) over both the production order and airing/Hulu order. That show was truly special and one of a kind. It's just sad that there'll never be a show that great again, but I'm glad it ever existed. Also, if you're ever going tp do an OK K.O.! video, do it after you review Pokémon seasons 20-22 (or the "Sun & Moon" seasons).
Sometimes I like to watch a show in production order too. Depending on what the show is, otherwise I watch other shows in broadcast order.
Broadcast order is truly shaken, not stirred
JOHNNYYYYY!!! 2 cellos!!
I love seeing other CZcamsrs in comment sections! It's like a CZcams Easter egg!
how hasent more people seen this
i wish that all streaming services had all the extra bonus'' that the dvds/blurays have: like commentaries, deleted scenes, gag reels, behind the scene footages, etc
FOX Animated shows have a really weird way of airing episodes of their shows, take a look at American Dad for example, many episodes from the 5th, 6th, and 7th production seasons aired so randomly.
It's truly the American way
It got even weirder when American Dad moved to TBS. There’s multiple ways of counting the seasons of the show and it always confused me. With Futurama, I hear the 4 direct to DVD movies were also divided up into smaller episodes so there was another way people saw those.
I watched the episode War is the H-Word when it was first broadcast on Fox. There was a very unfortunate interruption by a news report near the very end when Bender says "ass" and you expected the bomb to explode. It might be time zone dependent (I was in Central Time). Because of this interruption it took me a while to figure out how that episode was resolved.
Actually the Nintendo GameBoy is a 1,013-year-old device when Dwight uses it, not a 113-year-old device.
I can't believe Johnny no longer has cellos. I'm crying and shaking rn
Wait what happened to him?!
@@patrickmarsh2538had his cellos taken away in a heated custody battle
I’m actually shocked that you’re bringing this to people’s attention. Not a lot of the show’s viewers know about this. Bravo!
These production order/airing order situations that happen with cartoons always interest me. Like, how Ren & Stimpy’s fifth and final season in airing order is still production code season 4 or how Dexter’s Lab’s second season is production order seasons 2, 3, and 4 (based off of Genndy‘s claims), despite being Season 2 in airing order.
Well, technically, the "Adult Party Cartoon" era of Ren and Stimpy counts as the sixth and final season even though it was only 6 episodes long!
4:55 ''The Gameboy, a 113-year-old device'' *1013* my man!
Just started watching my first binge of it after binging impractical jokers and always sunny.
Disney+ also crops the episode "A Farewell to Arms" to a 4:3 ratio for no reason. It should be in widescreen so half of the picture is annoyingly cut out
Weird!
Ikr
Oh, if you think that’s bad, Adult Swim currently presents ALL the Comedy Central episodes cropped to 4x3.
@@JasontheCartoonFan Yikes...
THANK YOU! Futurama is my favorite animated series of all time and I still wasnt 100% sure about the best way to watch it. This was awesome info I might have to drop some dough on the box set lowkey. Glad ur back Mr. Tendo :D
if a show has ANY continuity at all the Network release order will mess it up without fail
Except Final Space. (RIP).
Happy 8 year anniversary to nicktendo. 8 years of wholesome comedy gold and fun cartoon facts. Futurama is pretty timeless with dated pop culture references
Before Rick and Morty was ever a thing Futurama is always been my favorite science fiction animated series and Always LOVED It
The name Torgo is a deep cut as well.😅
The Master approves of the reference
American Dad has this problem but so much worse, the order list on Hulu is so jumbled up and weird compared to its Wikipedia listings.
Bill odenkirk is the brother of bob odinkirk which is interesting because bob odenkirk voiced a characters in futurama who i forgot who he voiced but he was important to the show
Interesting! I wasn’t aware of the different episode orders! I’m used to watching the show on dvd and was a bit confused when I started watching some seasons on disney+, noticing something was off
Those frightened children of Santa Claus Bot are adults now and I wonder if they exist.
In Australia we saw them in order because we didn't get any futurama episodes on tv until 2005
It’s obvious to anyone that both the Simpsons and Futurama will never die. However, the different approaches they take to never dying is legit fascinating. Like the Simpsons is just interminable and nothing, not even back-to-back strikes or memes so ubiquitous that not even discrediting them can make them go away (you know the ones), can stop it from dropping a new season each fall. But Futurama goes on and off the air so much that it arguably leads to higher returns whenever it does return for the umpteenth time. And given the choice between a zombie franchise that still has plenty of juice and one that has essentially become “That Prediction Show,” yeah I’ll take the Futurama approach (though I do wish bringing it back wasn’t Matt Groening’s solution to everything)
I actually don't know the memes - what?
@@logicphile6207 Basically, about 10-15 years ago the Internet collectively decided that every single event that happens in the world can be traced back to some random joke on the Simpsons. Whatever the gag was would then be labeled a “prediction” by the Internet, even if it makes no contextual sense. The meme has only increased more and more powerful since the Trump administration (for context, Bart to the Future made a reference to Trump’s late-90s presidential campaign, a joke that became heavily discussed after the 2016 election), to the point it’s basically the only thing from the show people talk about nowadays. That’s why I made reference to the fact that discrediting the meme will do nothing to stop it; it is that level of ubiquitous. I hope that’s clear
Can't wait for Disenchantment to get zombied back.
@@bullmonty764 Ok ty
Also can't forget the fact that The Simpsons erased and scrubbed the 6th simpson member from history, so much so that nobody seems to remember him. Graggle Simpson will eventually see justice.
[[ "you're actually wrong, the best way to view Futurama is through watching assorted clips of the show on CZcams and piecing together the episodes in your mind" -🤓 ]]
With the strike going on, I wouldn’t have an issue with Matt Groening predicting Torgo’s Powder
0:24 about the Beastie Boys not seeing the show, that's just it - they hadn't. The episode came out in May 1999, and the pilot came out in March 1999. You know it takes longer than 2 months to write, voice and animate an episode. they've never seen it, because it hadn't existed yet.
4:55 fry skipped a millennium, not a century.
I would never have known, or considered that some of the episodes are out of order if not for the fact I had the first season on DVD as a kid and saw most all of it on TBS when I was young. Like if I'd never seen them, I'd definitely see what the problem is but having seen the series multiple times before streaming was a big deal I never would have noticed. Aqua Teen Hunger Force does a similar thing between DVD releases and streaming order but because that show is what it is, it does not effect any continuity.
I don’t know why but that Johnny No Cellos joke got me good
I always get confused when people talk about the 10th, 11th, etc. seasons bc I've always seen it as 7 seasons (with the new one being 8)
I'm honestly surprised that streaming services dont have a toggle to view broadcast order or production order. Probably too much work
The gender roles episodes are some of the best social commentary the show ever did. Nuchacho and Borax kid are great
After S6 (end of Comedy Central run) was released I picked up a box set that includes the films as fill movies.
Personally what im most looking forward to is when the new futurama episodes make fun of Andrew Tate, they're going to be topical so unless the episodes were made wayyy ahead of time you know its going to happen.
Worth mentioning that, at least in the UK, the 4 movies were available in both forms in amazon prime
I finished watching this video and I'm still confused of what he meant by "broadcast order" and "production order'.
The order the episodes were broadcast in Vs the order the episodes they were produced in. I thought it was self explanatory
@@NICKtendoReviewsorry I'm a slow learner
@@sewwfffyhjijui no worries! Glad I could help.
from The Simpsons to Futurama I've LOVED Both Shows and just catching up on a bunch of episodes on Hulu Before the Revival is even coming on Hulu for Futurama and The Simpsons on Disney+
Just got the complete series minus the movies for Christmas! And considering that Christmas one of my aunts was recovering in the hospital/at her home and my grandfather having to go to the hospital for a test and staying overnight it helped a lot! Also got a fosters home dvd! Which includes the Christmas episode!
I wonder how long futurama will last this time considering the previous reboot only last like three years or so.
So do they still sell the dvd's with the full uncut movies though?
They should be pretty cheap secondhand. I know the “complete” series set is still in print
@NICKtendoReviews Cool, next time I'm at second and charles or a thrift store I'll look for those sets, I had no idea about the extra content and deleted scenes and stuff, amazing channel by the way, my favorite video of yours is the mad TV and the crossovers video.
Dear god. I don’t know if you put in the mid roll ad at 11:18 or if CZcams generated it there but that was perfect and the only time a CZcams ad didn’t annoy me. Bravo.
I just saw the new episode, and you can see the production code during the credits which does indeed say 8ACV01
all praise hypnotoad
When i watched Futurama as a kid on tv it always bothered me that they put "The Fansworth Parabox" right after "The Sting".
My first watch was back when the series was on Netflix, and now I’m curious if it had it in production or premiere order, since Netflix is inconsistent about that. I know the movies were all considered part of a season 7, but they weren’t broken up into parts, they were just part of a four-episode season. I think there were only 9 seasons listed in total, too
as a filthy pirate who never buys dvds but loves this show, i've ensured that my archive of the entire series is labeled in production order, with the correct number of seasons and the continuity left intact
11:17 okay Nick, that was very clever putting an ad break here.
One thing I think works a bit better, though works either way tbh, is that with broadcast order the next episode for Leela's parents is the Superhero one, where the main drama is Leela's parents being concerned Leela is ashamed of them. I feel this works slightly better when it's more spaced out then when it's closer. Life sometimes gets the better of us and it's not always easy to keep up with those distant from us. Plus Leela's mom comments at the end that she could call more often. Which that line does work better if it's more spread out then if it is almost immediate that we see them again.
Oh that call more often line is a good point, forgot about that
@@NICKtendoReviews yeah. For me that whole side of the plot just works best if Leela hasn't been keeping up with them as much as either side might like, then if it feels like only a few days have passed. As the line also implies to me that they've had at least some phone contact in that time off screen so they haven't been completely ignored by Leela in universe.
The dog warning was needed 😢
The Gameboy would be a 1013 year old device, not a 113 year old device.
😈
It would actually be technically correct (the best kind of correct) to say that the Gameboy would be a 1014 year-old device…
I will point out that for Phineas and Ferb at first the Christmas special had scenes cut out in the streaming version but I’ve noticed that later on they added them back in so at least I know I’m not the only one who was pissed about some of my favorite bits being taken out - I remember when Disney plus first launched a bunch of animation writers and staff were in social media telling people the intended watch order because a ton of continuity based shows were completely out of order! I also once forced my friend to play the entire hypno toad dvd bonus episode and would not let him turn it off…I was no longer invited over to his house
WHOO! New Nicktendo!
When I originally watched futurama on Netflix around 2013-2014 they had the dvd versions of the movies instead of the TV cut, definitely the best way to watch them.
HE'S BACK!
The new run on "Hulu" Kinda makes me laugh how americans have to pay separately for Disney Plus and Hulu, when in most of the world its all the same.
Also in the nicest way possible you sound like Fozzy.
how many muppets can I possibly sound like
@@NICKtendoReviewsyou are every muppet. submit to the puppet comedy.
Well I may have still have some of the Futurama DVDS But I'd still do watching it on Hulu even though I'd do it at random episodes on Hulu
"I was introduced to futurama from the simpsons crossover."
What a hell of a way to get introduced. But i guess im not much different from how my family learned about it from the simpsons movie teasers that come with the dvd.
1:02 Glad to see Nick hasn’t forgotten about Big City Greens. (Aka the GOAT of Disney Channel.)
I prefer the DVDs if only for the fact that the Di$ney+ / Hulu hosted editions are censored in certain places, such as the removal of a line from "Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love?" while Zoidberg is trying to attract a mate.
Bender lives on no matter what decade it is. Love the video and looking forward to the new seasons of Futurama
I’m so happy I bought this series long ago on DVD!!!!
IMDB usually has correct production order, but shows 11 seasons. Are they listed in air date order?
8:33 does that episode’s title actually scroll down with them?
When theres an AD between the TV CUTS
OMG!
Why do I feel like the Original Gameboy would be a bit more than 113 years old by the time of Futurama 🤔
4:55 gameboy be older than 113 years in year 3011 or whatever
The show when aired on Comedy Central, SYFY and now Adult Swim since its return to the network as well as FXX all have had the show in the DVD's episode ordering, which is technically the actual order of the series! S1-4 is labeled as S1-5 and S6 is labeled as S7 when aired and Hulu has the same thing and the movies were labeled as part of S6 when aired! And are split up into episodes making up the entirety of the season! And that 52 episode 2010-2013 Comedy Central produced revival run is labeled as S7-10! It's basically the same thing with American Dad!, with season 1 having 6 episodes in some releases, but the actual full season is 26 episodes long, but its first run broadcast originally on Fox and then later on Adult Swim and then TBS as well, the second season is labeled with the rest of the first season's episodes, broadcast later in fall 2005 on Fox, until 2006. And it still continues with all of the TBS first run episodes into the modern era today with all the current seasons! And the upcoming ordered seasons, 20 and 21, are seasons 18 and 19, season 18 wrapped its run back in November last year and season 19 beginning recently back in February, that has who knows how many? Like, 20, I think, I'm not sure yet, but it has begun airing and on Hulu, it has the same setup, it's kinda crazy! Broadcast orders are confusing sometimes vs. production order, even with Miraculous Ladybug! Where the English version has episode 1 as Stormy Weather and the Origins 2 part premiere episode as the season 1 finale, it's labeled differently in the French and (formerly) Netflix and Disney+ versions of the show, where the Origins episode is the first one and Stormy Weather is the third episode, either way, the show's distribution order is all kinds of fucked up sometimes internationally outside of its country of origin France, it's a bit of a mess, man! But anyway, if this has taught us anything, it's that there's a huge difference between broadcast and production orders and it can get out of hand pretty quickly when it's changed for other releases of a show, it's kinda strange how companies do this type of thing! Even in anime like Dragon Ball Z or Shaman King when those were released on DVD, they have different episode orders and season labels in the English dub release! This shit gets really crazy then! Also, Nick, congrats on eight consecutive years here on CZcams, awesome, bro! You deserve it, and here's to many more years to come in the future! Good job! You made it!
I literally got a Kia commercial at 11:18 goddamnit
But where can I watch the full versions of the movies now? Because I won't even watch them at this point cause the online versions I find are missing scenes and I don't like that
Okay, so how do I know which episodes are cut and which episodes are actually the full episodes when I watch them on Hulu? And where can I find the full episodes?
For Hulu Season 6, with the 4-parters, those are the only ones that are cut down. You can find the full versions on DVD and for purchase on select digital platforms like Vudu.
@@NICKtendoReviews Thanks.
Great video, I probably will watch how Disney+ lists it but maybe I'll buy the direct to dvd movies to have both versions
All I want to know is how you got the Futurama intro clean to make your own text gag. I can't find it ANYWHERE.
Love to say I made it but I got it off a fanmade recreation I can’t find now
At least it's not as bad as "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" Anime Broadcast to production order! .... Time to catch up and up to speed on Futurama before the new season comes out.
South Park's first 8 seasons also have that production / broadcast episode order disparity. And despite not having much continuity back then, I honestly prefer the former when it cones to that series.
great video my friend
Im glad i watched the comedy central ones on Netflix which had them in production order.
FOX commonly has shows aired out of order because of sports programs running over their time allotment, so the intended broadcast date of the Sunday animated show gets pushed back.
I can't wait for the Fairly Oddparents Part 3 review
Good video. Don't have anything to really say as I watched Futurama growing up through pirated episodes and Comedy Central reruns, but I'm sure I missed something in the continuity
I see, I see. Thanks for watching! Always look forward to your comments.
Thank goodness I watched it through certain means!
4:53 Wouldn't it be a 1,013 year old device?
Gameboy would've been 1000+ year old device in 31st century
I still can't find the new episodes lol- it takes me to the first season and only the first season. Anyone else having this issue?
So Futurama was subject to the same chicanery as the last four seasons of Adventure Time (which are really just Seasons 6-8)?
You told me just in time
okay I only gonna say this 1 more time
WE'RE BACK BABY
Funny how futerama is brought back again during a writers strike
Awesome sauce
Exactly
First of all Technically yes each comedy central season was split up in to two years part one and two like Hulu is doing and Netflix does with Disenchantment but most including me look at each half season as one season. And two Futurama has always had continuity unlike The Simpsons ive been watching since the pilot in 1999 that aired after the super bowl!
Goddammit I can't even watch my shows correctly anymore
Wait you mean I’m not supposed to watch it via 1min CZcams shorts?
I always bought Simpsons and Futurama DVDs the day the were released, because the commentary is the best part.
Are the Complete Series DVDs different from the original S1-4 DVD sets at all?
Same content, different packaging
@@NICKtendoReviews That's honestly mildly disappointing, especially since the first season didn't let you click "play all" on a disc.
Be nice if you could sort by production season or broadcast season.
