Bad start? You mean the Wolves? All that was intentional as they get in the way too much if they live and that seems to be the best position to kill them quickly.

They start at a set trigger, so you just have to start jumping at the right spot.

At 1:44 the game tells me my stats and stuff and then it just goes back to the menu screen. Why?
