  • Nomads' Land is a short documentary that explores the decline of the nomadic way of life in the Amazigh people of North Africa. The story is told through Said, who comes from a traditional Amazigh - Tuareg family that once roamed the Sahara. Subject to economic, religious and geographical pressure, Said has recently chosen to settle down in a village on the edge of the Sahara, an increasingly common move by nomadic Amazigh families.
The last of the Imazighen (ⵉⵎⴰⵣⵉⵖⵏ) still roam the Sahara Desert - but for how long? Living on the other side of the Atlas Mountains, it is no exaggeration to say that everybody admires Said in Tagounite - his life of hard-work, loss, triumph and hope. He has had to face drastic changes happening to his community, all while trying to restore his ancestral home. Nomad’s Land explores the reasons behind the exodus leading nomads away from the desert to the cities in a documentary about the forgotten Berbers of Morocco.

Wow!!! This is truly art and touching! I really like that he says this is an issues that will effect everyone because this is all of our planet. This shows how the nomads now live and are becoming extinct honestly. No one should have to live like this or be forced into a different land they are uncomfortable living in. Great job on this!!!

Well done team! Should be very proud of yourselves! Capturing the issues of what the last nomads face is an important thing the world needs to see, as it won’t be long until the whole of humanity faces the same issues!

This is such a strong message as to how our actions can affect others. The documentary does an excellent job at touching your emotion. “My family stopped being nomads... they must go they have no other choice” (4.56). Those words started off very strong. The choice in information given and the cinematography were so good!

What a great film this was! The message was so powerful, it really made me stop and think about the impact I have on many things around me, as well as the impact of others. Often times, these are things we tend to not think about on a daily basis and this documentary really brought light to this concept!

My sister lived in the moroccan dessert with Said for multiple weeks in Nov 2022. He is traumatized by this documentary which he gave no consent to starring in. The makers tricked him and claimed to come from a work away program to help him build his school but they only set up cameras and video taped him for weeks. He received no compensation and gave no permission for his image to be used like this. He is now traumatized and refuses to have his picture taken by anybody. He didn’t even know about the doc until a friend showed to him after it got recognition. Shame on you E&C. SHAME

Hi, I was the Producer of Nomads' Land along with Nini Permalosa.
I'm not sure where you got this information from but this is totally false.
      1) I had been in contact with Said for several weeks before we went to stay with him and he was very happy to be a part of the documentary.
      2) Myself, Said and Linde (his partner) reviewed and signed a contract at the beginning of the documentary indicating his involvement in this documentary and that he would also receive any photo and video files he wanted from the project.
      3) No Compensation? Said asked for a monetary contribution for our stay with him which covered our food and transport costs, which I happily gave. Additionally, on the last day of our time with Said I gave him (out of my own pocket) $150 to go towards his motorcycle repairs which had been recently failing him.
      4) Just last week I heard from Linde asking for a link to the documentary file as she had lost the original copy and we had a nice chat and catch-up.
      5) Said has never been building a school, he was rebuilding his ancestor's house, we spent time helping Said dig wells in his garden for the annual water flow that was on its way down from the mountains.
If you would like to contact me to discuss this further, please do.
