    I learned from this two videos. I have a stoop similar and I need to do something with it because it has some cracks and water leaks into the well room right below. I'm in Minnesota where it's cold. These two videos are most helpful as I know zero about concrete work but I know more after watching this video. Thanks for very informative video.

    Great video as always, Mike. You know you love that jacket. I have a thermal lined light work jacket that was given to me by my builder neighbor. From Sears in the 1970's. Beat to heck, ripped and I wear it all the time. So you ain't foolin' me that you'll replace it. It's like your second skin.Nothing like comfort when you're working. Be safe, stay well, God Bless you.

    Never gets old watching someone float some nice fresh mud! I work on concrete at skateparks and the kids love it when I have them toss a pile on and I say ‘Now watch it disappear...’ and float it nice and smooth.

    Great videos as always Mike. Can you please do a series on anchors? Your comment about "Concrete Nail" is great. Looks like you showed the carpenter how to save some time and money without using a masonry bit and Tapcon. Would love to see the types of anchors you can use on block, stone, mortar joints, etc... for hanging decorations on a building, shelves in a basement or block garage, picture on a fireplace...anything you think would be good. My brick house built in '64 still has steel nails in the brick joint holding up gutter downspouts. Thanks again for the videos!

    The coat looks fine to me. I would just have my Grandmother patch it. She’s got an old cast iron sewing machine and we still have coats in the family that were purchased in the 1940s. Seriously. I know this is an older video, but I'm about to tackle a similar project. My question is when you laid your block, you laid three sides and I'm guessing your fourth side was the foundation wall. My job is at a house on brick piers so the back of my horse-shoe is open. Should I just lay four sides of block and fill it in? And in my opinion, that coat is just to where is getting comfortable, no need to replace it.

    Old school pools, were they two parts sand and one part Portland then sculpted and burnished, or?

      Hi Mike, until the late 20s you would never see concret porches, they were either stone or mostly wood, but when portland came around it was all basically the same, my opinion , thanks mike

    Great video Mike. If you are concerned with weather, how would you properly flash against house?

      Hi Vincent, the whole idea would to keep the water away from the wood, that's best as I could describe it, mike

    When putting plastic under the cement, is there a chance that it could move since it’s not bonded to anything?

      Hi Frank, I never seen it happen, the concrete has to expand and contract , thanks Mike

    Cool video Mike. My stoop is just like that one that you saved and i have a newbie question for you sir. There are large chunks missing from the side of the foundation and the rest of the stoop has a coat of porch paint on it. I can handle fillingbin the missing chunks with thick mortar but for the rest of the stoop, can the portland paint trick be used over a coat of porch paint or should i grind off the paint first?

      @MikeHaduck  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Jesse, I would say it has to be ground off or just patch it up and get a good stucco paint and re do it that way, I hope it helps mike

      @@MikeHaduck thanks mike i like the sound of patching and then stucco paint i will do that! Sounds a lot better than grinding the whole stoop with my dewalt grinder!

    Mike, at the 11:00 mark, could you explain the process at that stage with the trowel? Thanks.

      Hi Candy, I was just using the level as a strait edge to make sure it was straight and a pitch so water rolls off, thanks, mike

    I don't think I've ever questioned your methods. Why bolt the form to the concrete when it seems like holding the form up off the ground with wood all around would save a lot of time? I'm not a professional so I'm sure there's a reason. I do know I can be lazy and you know what they say, if you want to find out the easiest way of doing something give it to someone who's lazy 😜

    • @MikeHaduck
      @MikeHaduck  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Kelly, there are times when I do that but I've seen forms move when they are not in some way connected around on top, it was not that big where I had to brace it, thanks Mike

      Mike Haduck Masonry makes sense. When you're working with concrete it's always a race against it setting. Love your videos by the way. They have a chill matter of fact tone I'm always in the mood to watch. Nice contrast from the typical in your face CZcams videos out there.
