Hello Christy,
I am Amira, and I am waiting for your respond,
Kindly check your instagram
Love you and your amazing channel please stay safe and enjoy your reading love your family friend and Aussie friend John ❤❤❤
On the very first page of Kiki’s Delivery Service, there’s a description about the rooftops of the houses being like slices of toast, or something like that, and it’s my favourite description ever! I hope you love the book 🥰
awwwh I love that so much 😭 I can't wait to get to it!
i read that book but forgot most things 🤣🙈 time for a reread i suppose.
This book is so wonderful! Sometimes I get a bit bored with middle grade books, but not this one. It is short and sweet and such a dream. I feel like I’m in Kiki’s world and marked many quotes that I really related to.
I stumbled upon this book a few years ago in a shop, and snatched it up, because I adore the film. The book was so charming! The author said she was inspired to write it by a drawing her young daughter made! And I also loved the detail of the rooftops being compared to,pieces of toast. Thank you for reminding me! I actually passed this book along to a class at a school where I worked and now I kind of regret that, haha. But it is lovely to think of many children reading it.
Ok Thanks for sharing 👍 😊 have a wonderful week.
For anyone interested in reading Kiki: I just finished it yesterday actually and I totally recommend it (even if you're an adult like me!). It gives more context to the movie (ex: why the bells are in the trees) and you also get more heartwarming delivery stories. It's so cute.
Mauler and Questus by english writer Shawn Williamson. Mauler is indicated by english writer, historian, cinema director Andrew Sinclair. He compares It with White Fang by Jack London.
My favourite book by Tanizaki Junnichiro is The Makioka Sisters. It's my comfort read that I dip in and out of every now and then. It's about four high class sisters living in Kansai the pre-world war period. It's an absolute classic.
Heads up about "How far the light reaches": I also thought it was about sea creatures and it's very much not. It's an autobiography. The sea creatures are introduced and then only used as literary devices for Imbler to tell you about their life, which is quite traumatic, so keep that in mind. Trigger warnings for a slew of things. It's worth the read because it's beautifully written, but it's not the book to pick up when you need something lighter. It effectively sent me into a reading slump.
Oh that is a very good heads up! Thank you for letting me know. Still very intrigued by it... though my motivation WAS the sea creatures hahah
Absolutely loved Nettle and Bone!
I looooove your videos so much. They inspire me, and I like watching them when I feel a bit down 'cause they calm me down. Thank you for your wonderful content, and your magical personality. ❤
You always have an incredible list of books Christy! Let’s keep the brain 🧠 busy!
I just finished The Society of Irregular Witches and absolutely loved it. It's more about found family than the romance, which is lovely. And the setting is so so cosy.
I think I love the phrase "my kettle of fish" 😆🥰
Huge witch theme in your book choices this year ❤️ I read Kiki recently and it made me cry because it is so poignant and uplifting. Looking forward to your book videos this year 😁 Your Japan content is cool, I'm just jealous I can't go right now.
I need to look up some of the books, new books I've never heard of :D
well I love books of course but I'm definitely here for the Japan content too, yea! 😸
Loved your TBR list, some of them are already in my TBR 😊
Thank you christy❤️
Good Morning Midnight is one of my all time fav books. I focused on it when I wrote my senior thesis in college. I hope you enjoy it!
I love your Always tattoo! I also have an Always tattoo ❤️
I’m watching this as I sit on a train heading to the city for a bookshop crawl. You’ve given me lots of books to add to my list . Thanks 💕
Ooh I hope you had a lovely time 💛
@@christy-anne-jones I did … Thankyou . I’ve added ‘Never let me go ‘ to my collection 💕
Hi from Brazil 👋🏻 This is my first time here and I loved your video, your vibe and all books that you choose to read this year 💛
Looking forward to your thoughts on Nettle and Bone!
I started the irregular witches not long ago and it's much more about found family than romance. I usually don't like romance books, but I find this one really cozy so far. I think you'll enjoy it. :)
i'm a huge sci fi reader and i loved never let me go and klara and the sun! i recently found when we were orphans in a charity shop so hopefully i enjoy it just as much, very interested to see what his other novels are like!
If you're getting immersed in 1920s literature, you should definitely read "All quiet on the western front". Unless you already did for school, that is. 😊 For non fiction in the direction of biology or history, I warmly recommend anything Alice Roberts.
I have so many of these books on my TBR for the year also! Looking forward to hearing what you think of them all :)
If you love Ishiguro, read "The unconsoled" I read most of his books and this one is my favorite
ohhh but you must read The Little Friend!!
Donna Tart, brilliant.
Thanks for the inspiration to read and write more!
I read Kaikeyi a few months ago and loved it! Can't wait to see what you think about it.
I actually read "The remains of the day" during January and loved it! It really felt like being in a melancholic decadent English countryside and the narration was so nostalgic and interesting. I hope you enjoy it! Definitely a classic.
I’m currently reading The School for Good Mothers and enjoying it so far. Kiki is so lovely, it’s widely available here in the UK. So hope you enjoy your books :-)
I'm so excited that you'll be reading The Remains of the Day! It was my first Ishiguro novel and is now one of my absolute favourite books. Looking forward to hear what you think about it
You will love The Remains of the Day - I read it years ago ( need to dig it out and read it again) and loved it. The film adaptation with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson is pretty good.
I'm so excited for it! 💛
I just watched Kiki's delivery service for the first time and really like it, so cute. The book has been on my wishlist for a while.
I also bought the very secret society of irregular witches - turns out the author lives in the same town as me - pretty cool!
I am most looking forward to the 3rd book in Signe Pike's Lost Queen series. The first 2 books were so good and I can't believe I never hear anyone talking about them!
Thank you, Christy ❤ xx
Thank YOU for making beautiful things (and also for sending me a copy of one of those beautiful things) 💛💛
I have The Secret History on my TBR this year!
Naomi is a great book! It's definitely a satire, where Naomi and the main character are personifications of Japan and the US/the west in general and the type of relationship they had at the time. :)
Hi Christy! You should definitely pick up Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. I Love that series to pieces, and i know you will too 🥰🥰
I missed your videos!
I’m not much into romance either, but The secret life of irregular witches was a book club read in one of the book clubs I was in last year. I was very leery on reading it, but did end up reading it and loved it. It’s kinda spicy on some of the romance parts, but I feel it was less romance and more about found family and magic.
Ishiguro is one of my favorite authors of all time, and my love for Never Let Me Go is second only to The Remains of the Day. I’m excited to hear what you think of it.
I think you’ll love The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches! The romance is only a side plot and really the whole story feels like a direct parallel to The House in the Cerulean Sea, which I know we both love. So with that in mind, I’m so looking forward to your review!
I have both The Secret Society Of Irregular Witches & TJ Klune The House In The Cerulean Sea. Both books are very enjoyable 👌 highly recommended.
Christy you literally look like you stepped right out of a studio ghibli movie, I love your aesthetic ☁️💌🌸
When Women Were Dragons was pretty divisive at my book club. There was a lot to discuss regardless of whether you liked the book, but it's basically a memoir told from the perspective of someone who did not become a dragon in a society that basically pretended women didn't become dragons. So it's not quite the fantasy fare that I think a lot of people expected.
Ohhhh surprised A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon is not on the list. Soooo excited about it!
Found a good copy of Kiki's Delivery Service from Booktopia. I enjoyed it alot, but it is not much like the film in either tone or events. Still good middle grade book though!
I recently heard of a book which I just HAD to add to my Master TBR and think you might be interested as well.. it involves.. sea creatures!
Setting: Aquarium.
Main Character: Octopus. 🐙
Book: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.
it's in my tbr too. did you read it? if you did, how was it?
Love the recommendations! I had no idea that Barnhill was the same Barnhill that wrote The Girl Who Drank the Moon! I’ll be interested to try her adult writing!
kettle of fish 😂❤
Ah I just finished Parable of the sower series today and it’s so good and kind of scary it was written in the 90s and bits of it is similar to present day😳 her other book kindred has a tv series out on Hulu/Disney+ so I’m really hopeing this book gets a series 🤞🏻
I highly recomend reading Confessions of a Mask by Yukio Mishima. It's a coming of age story based in post war Japan
Lol Parable of the Sour. Sounds like a mistake I’d make 😂
Me too lol - I didn't even question it 🤣glad I'm not alone - and the irony of her thinking it was another name 😅
i would love more wlw book recommendations if you have any! (directed at anyone and everyone )
kettle of fish 😂 i needed this video today.
Lol. Same🤚
Just found your channel and subbed PS I love your channel ❤️.
Have you read “When Marnie was there”? It’s one of my top 5 Ghibli movies and I had no idea it was based on a book from 1967!
I am currently reading, When Women Were Dragons and I'm liking it! My brother in-law gave it to me for xmas last year. Also, I love your Japan content too! I want to go sometime. I love Japanese food so much! :)
I've never read (or seen!) Kiki's Delivery Service and now I need to put it on my TBR now
Love
Oh oh! I've read Remains of the Day! I'm curious to know what you think of it. I'm still not sure what I think of it. I had one reaction to it, and then discussed it with others and came away with a different reaction. So, I'm not really sure now 😅 maybe time for a re-read.
I need you to read Deeplight by Frances Hardinge, such an amazing book ❤
Christy Anne Jones ThanksMuch!
Not written in the 1920s exactly but in the early 30s is 'Gilgi - One of us'! It's one of the best books I read last year and if you're interested in reading from different countries I recommend it because I find it to be a very authentic portayal of what it feels like to grow up as a woman in Germany.
Even though it's almost a hundred years old there was so much in there I could truly relate to, especially the suppression of emotions the main character can't even admit to herself 🙃
The Very secret society of irregular witches is such a cosy book. And as someone already said, it's more about found family and love then romance. Have you read Ishiguros book about the Sleeping Giant? One of the the strangest books I've read. 😅 have to check up Never let me go and Kikis delivery service 🙂🙂
Love these recommendations! Weird question, which font do you use for your text in the video? Sincerely, the wife of a font nerd 🤓
you should try Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson! She's one of my favorite fantasy writers and Sorcery of Thorns is my favorite of her work :)
Oh god! I can’t believe I actually saw you in Kinokuniya when you were there!
At the very beginning I thought I saw someone who really looked like you, but she was actually you!
I wanted to talk to you and ask but I thought it could be uncomfortable so I didn’t. I hope you had a wonderful trip here in Japan! ❤
Oh my god seriously??? Oh that's such a fun coincidence! I'll be back in Tokyo again in May so if I bump into you then, please feel free to say hi! 😊💛💛
I'm going to start using your accidental phrase: "my kettle of fish." It's hilarious!
I have decided that this year will be my year of kazuo ishiguro's novels. where should i begin? i have read only never let me go and i loved it :) should i pick up clara and the sun? or maybe something else?
Great video, also Kiki's delivery service? It is one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies.
This will be a year for me, to finally start Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit books! Yay! I also hope to finish the Fallen book series by Lauren Kate and to get the dragon's promise by Elizabeth Lim, which is the sequel to Six crimson cranes, a Japanese vibe fantasy book. I hope your protect teacup is going okay!
Oooh good luck with LotR and The Hobbit! Hope you enjoy them! And thank you so much--project tea cup is going slowly but well 😊💛
The Dragon’s Promise is also on my tbr, can’t wait to get to it!
@@christy-anne-jones I'm glad. I'm on Chapter 20 on mine.
@@hannahp7326 hope you enjoy it. First chance I get, I will be reading it. I have don a review of the first book on my channel (non-spoiler of course)
I've always loved A Secret History, but had a very hard time with Little Friend Im sorry to say.
Great video! Do you have any recommendations that are similar to Julia and the Shark? I read Song for a Whale and Bright Beautiful Creatures, but I need more ocean animals books that are similar.
I need more recs in this category as well! I have Deeplight by Frances Hardinge on my TBR which is ocean-themed (and probably the closest thing I can suggest, though I haven't read it yet!) 💛
The line tender is a similar middle reader with ocean life weaves through. Also soul of an octopus is a nonfiction about octopus that’s fascinating.
Some very interesting books. I also like ones written in the 20s. I loved The Sun Also Rises. If you want to read more nonfiction and like skincare and self-care, you could check out mine 😉
💖
💛
I read the remain of the days in High School and I am still traumatized by it 😂 (it is very sad)
Well I'm currently reading Kiki's delivery service its a sweet little story about everyday magic I prefer the movie though :)
I love you so much my dear😭🤍🤍
💛💛
I DNF'ed The Little Friend halfway through and felt so disappointed because The Secret History is my favourite book of all time and I also adored The Goldfinch. 😞
you are my kettle of fish, Christy! HAAHAHAH
Please PLEASE * PLEASE* read the ember quartet by Sabaa Tahir
It is a YA fantasy novel series which includes the following four novels: 1. An Ember in the Ashes 2. A Torch Against the Night 3. A Reaper at the Gates 4. A Sky Beyond The Storm
All of these books are so amazing and it definitely is one of the best fantasy series I've EVER read
I'm curious what your cellphone model is? I am fascinated that a popular book tuber doesn't use an Iphone. ❤😅

I am just SO extremely blown away by this 😭😭💀
The hard work. The DEDICATION this must have taken to document.
I am amazed. Thank you for being here 😭💛
Gurl read Dracula it's been on your shelves for years
I went to Kinokuniya Shinjuku but couldn’t find English books 😭😭😭 I was too shy to ask. Lol
They're a little bit challening to find! but, in the books Kinouniya store above Nitori, they're in the corner. I can't remember which corner, but possibly the one near the escalator? If you circle the walls you'll eventually find them 😅
@christy Anne Jones.
Hi there, this is my first time coming across your video this year. I've read all sorts of books from Lgbtq(M/M) to Romance, fantasy, crime, and the rest, so I came across your video and was interested in more book hunting. Could you please recommend me to your favorite summer romance, Christmas, valentines, erotic, military, and dark romance genre.
I hope it's not too late to send this, though, but I really need a few more books too.
I haven't read The Sun Also Rises, but I read A Farewell To Arms recently, and the way Ernest Hemingway writes women is disturbing to say the least.
Yep hahaha
For 'The Sun Also Rises' I was ALARMED at the number of slurs in the book (notwithstanding all the other problems of it). It's almost like he made it a personal challenge to include as many possible
😘😘🥰
lovely list ❤ I thought the prequel to the Priory of the Orange Tree would have been for sure on it though 😊
It took me over a year to get through the first one 😅 I LOVE Samantha Shannon, but I don't naturally gravitate towards epic fantasy. I know I'll love it when I read it but I wanted to be realistic hahaha
Fair enough! Looking forward to all your bookish & Japanese vlogging videos 🤍🤍🤍
do you read comics?📖
I'm up to date on One Piece! But that's the only one I consistently read 😊
Hey Christie! Thanks for the video - If you love non-fiction about deep sea creatures - and real life mixed in - I think you would LOVE "Why Fish Don't Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life" - Lulu Miller
Let me know if you check it out!
Gurl, do you need to go to the doctors? "My kettle of fish"????????
Omg Kiki’s delivery service is a book!!😍 we’ll I’ve been living under a rock, I need to own this now! 🧹💕🐈⬛
Oou I really want to read Kiki’s Delivery Service! It sounds like such a delicious and cozy read 🧹
