  • It's Pride season around the world and thought I would take a second to reflect on what it means to be proud.
    I end up comparing people to "bread" of all things lol...my reasoning:
    We are all made up of different components that make up our ingredients and the end result is unique and special.
    🔸Our DNA
    🔸Background; where we are from, hometown culture, languages we speak
    🔸Our interests
    🔸The shows we watch, the music we consume
    🔸The people we surround ourselves with
    These are our ingredients that make us who we are and create a solid base for the end result being what makes us different, and DIFFERENT ISN'T WRONG!
    I'm interested to know if you have a different or similar opinion on the subject of pride and being proud! Please let me know in the comments, while remaining respectful of others :)
    Thanks for watching and seeya in the next one, ciao ciao for now ✌🏽.

    As a French-American having grown up in Southern California, I've been living in France the last 7+ years and I make videos in both English & French. I talk about the differences between the American and French cultures, lifestyle of an expat living in France, language learning techniques and practices, travel vlogs all around France/Europe and recently some American travel vlogs from a road trip in the South-West of USA.
    Of course I can't forget I started my channel by sharing my experience going through the French Nationality process and interviews from my journey to becoming French :)

    You know a person has definitely become French when they start thinking in bread! 😁

    Like you said yourself in your video, It's about being proud of 'Who You Are' and one's sexuality is an integral part of themselves. There are a lot of Gay people in this world who are ashamed or afraid of being Gay. That's why it's important to own your sexuality and be proud of it. 🏳️‍🌈

    The word Pride was chosen by the early leaders of the LGBTQ movement to inspire the queer community to unite and overcome the general shame and embarrassment some people still in the shadows felt for being different. It has evolved over time as a celebration for difference: Being proud of who you are. Think of it as the pride your straight French friends have for being French on July 14. Or American friends on July 4.

      That's a great point! Thanks for sharing :) I agree, it's a wonderful thing when people are proud of who they are and embrace those differences that make them unique!

    Somehow it makes things easier to feel utterly proud of the queers who surround me. They overcame so much struggles! Then I can extend the feeling to myself 🙃

    Here, "proud" is being used like: "Not embarrassed" to be gay.

    • @JordanPatrick
      @JordanPatrick  Před 2 lety +1

      That's a good way of looking at it! To be "proud" seems to have a stronger meaning in English than "la fierté" in French perhaps?

    Patrick I think time and place can determine how we see and experience Pride. Earlier lgbtq persons had to fight to have a right to not be arrested, discriminated against, to live, and to marry. Unfortunately US may be entering new fights for this all over again. Pride represents not being willing to be kept down and in the closet.
    Wold of difference between California in 2000s and most of America in 90’s and earlier.

    • @JordanPatrick
      @JordanPatrick  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey thanks for your comment on this topic! People born in the 90's and later are fortunate to live in a world where discrimination is "illegal" and although I'm sure it still exists, people are more free today to be their authentic selves with more rights than earlier generations. Hopefully the trend continues moving forward and doesn't take steps back (like is worrisome in the States recently).
      Thanks for your insightful comment and it's really uplifting to hear your point of view and I agree that in today's society, we have more of a privilege thanks to previous generations who fought for our rights.
      Take care and have a great day!

      @@JordanPatrick many European countries are more advanced than US. Discrimination in California and other blue states is illegal but it’s legal in FL, TX, and most Republican states. May get worse with our Supreme Court. Most frightening time since the 80s. But yes there has been a great change of acceptance amongst 70% in the country- especially young. Gay Marriage and ending Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

    I quite agree with the pride questioning. In my opinion, it is more about dignity. Human dignity. Actually, the thing people can be proud of is to stand up and fight for their dignity 🙂

    If you are not proud of being gay where do you get the courage to stand up and demand and fight for your rights?

    • @JordanPatrick
      @JordanPatrick  Před 2 lety +7

      I see what you mean and I'm strongly happy to fight for equal human rights as a whole.. and someone doesn't have to be gay to stand up and fight for equal gay rights either. I have many straight friends that are advocates for gay rights.
      I don't view someone's sexual orientation as a big deal, it's just a small part of who they are, maybe that's why for me pride comes more from achievement, and less from something we can't control ourselves if that makes sense?
      I believe everyone is unique and deserves the same rights no matter the color of their skin, their gender, their profession, their nationality, their sexual orientation, etc... so for me I feel we shouldn't need to broadcast who we're attracted to, it should just be a normal thing without needing labels for society to group people into categories.
      I understand pride of self-acceptance and being true to one's self whatever they stand for and I support it 100%. Love is love in whatever shape or form it comes in :)
      Thanks for your comment, have a great week!
