    For anyone looking for those rear clips, I think those are what you would get with a front fender bag.

    Excellent review and clever approach to mounting and adding additional storage. Giant Loop has a clever small tail rack that you could use as a rear mounting point or to attach a small pouch for day use. Does require drilling in the fender though.

  • @jalex19100
    @jalex19100 Před rokem +1

    Love the way you did the rear mounting. And I also had trouble finding a place to strap to on the right side without those clips. Header was too close to the frame on the right… worried it would melt. I have the reckless 40, and the rear mounting is awkward on the excf.

    Great review. Do you find the 40s get in your way when you're riding offroad? I'm debating between them, the Reckless 10s and the Mojavis. Pretty much can only do day rides now so I'm leaning toward the latter, but if the 40s don't get in the way, maybe they'd be the better long-term investment. Also, would you be able to share any insights on the Reckless 10 vs the Mojavis for day trips? Cheers.

    As neat and well built as the reckless 40 kit is, it is running about 650 US dollars, + shipping and tax.
    Some are asking over 700. I like the idea of taking less stuff, if your camping and cooking and spending even 3 days out on the road, you gotta have certain things.
    I ordered the TUSK Excursion instead. Some of the trickier details mosko moto does arent needed by me anyway.

  • @desertdefender

    You mention (in comments below) using some longer screws for the subframe. I've looked all over and can't find any that have the right wide, shouldered cap profile to effectively torque down on the steel grommet that's in the plastic shroud without crushing the plastic. Can you provide some more detail on the exact fasteners and washers you used? I love your mounting system and want to replicate if I can find the right parts.

    • @keithjob

      nothing fancy at all. found some aluminium tube that fit inside the plastic but still took a bolt. then used a bog-standard hex-head bolt of the required length.

    Hey Keith, my Mosko Moto Reckless 40 just arrived. Just wondering, when you mounted the clips to the subframe did you use the clips with the included bolts. Or did you drill them out to fit the larger thread size of the subframe bolt. Cheers.

      They are the plastic “tongue” from chipboard tongue and groove flooring boards. Find one at a local house building site bin. Several different colors but plastic is the same. Electrician’s use them as pull throughs for running wires inside walls too. Very handy. You’ve found another great use for them Keith!

    Hi Keith, very helpful video thanks. If you haven’t seen his CZcams channel yet, you might be interested in John T Young’s videos. He’s very particular about the gear he uses, although he doesn’t exactly pack light.
    I’d be grateful for some advice on your choice of gear. I’ve just received the Mosko Moto 10 and am trying to decide on a tank bag. I’ve been looking at the MM Pico, which is smaller than the Enduristan you have and about the same price, except you have to pay more if you want a map pocket. If you were buying again, would you go with the Enduristan or try something else?

    @keithjobson what are the clips you use on the subframe, and did you change the length of screw?

    • @keithjob
      @keithjob  Před 3 lety

      Not sure where they came from (maybe with the bags?). But Mosko sell a cleat kit which is the same thing. Check their website.
      The bolt - yes you need to change it. Factory one has a sort of built-in spacer to position inside the plastic cover without pinching it down. I used a longer bolt and put a spacer and some washers in behind the clip to try to replicate that.

    Great review, great product...However, Rocky Mountain now has a a system that's nearly identical for less than half the price. Tusk Excursion Rackless. Mosko Moto has a great product that is grossly overpriced. Have great riding clothing too...But trying to out price Klim is a great way not to sell me anything...Love your videos. What an ingenious way to mount that rear fender hold down!! 👍

    I have the Reckless 10L on my 2020 ktm 500 and I love it, but I was looking at getting either the Reckless 10 or 40 for my 2024. Is the Reckless 40 to big for day rides or is the 40 only necessary for multi-day trips?

    • @keithjob
      @keithjob  Před 19 dny

      Probably fine. The side packets are 15L each I think, just don't fill them. And don't take the 8L tail bag. Or get something like the Giant Loop Mojavi.

    • @keithjob
      @keithjob  Před 2 lety

      I think the 80L is too big for the EXC. Remember there is not really any subframe under the guard either, just a plastic one. So the extra weight that you'd jam into the 80L would kill it. Unless you added some proper racks. Would be OK on the 690, if you had need for it.

    • @miro_s
      @miro_s Před 2 lety

      @@keithjob thanks. Your excellent vids convinced me of the value of exc as an adventure bike. I’ve got a 350, think I’ll put on hold plans to acquire a 690 and give adventure on it a go. (I’m in the uk, haven’t got your vast spaces and gravel roads, it may just work.) Should that work nicely, I’ll replace it with a 500, thinking that I should be able to port all mods.
