bill's songwriting is so fun because it's the healthy middle between a complete stream of consciousness and a bunch of intricated metaphors about god-knows-what
Also, very restrained virtuosity.
intricated
This is exactly the feeling I get from his lyrics. His writing style is just crazy enough to be unique and unpredictable while keeping the message or story pretty much intact.(The Airport Terminal is a great exemple for this point)
Although I'm far from an expert on music theory, I feel the same way on the composition. It's crazy how his music can sound and feel so good while being so unconventional. I love it!
I laughed really hard at this cause as soon as I finished reading it he says I'm greedy
The PERFECT way to put it, thank you
"at the end of the trail there's another trail that's longer and goes around 20 more times" is such a lifechanging lyric

"these are one way stairs" changed my world view tbh
@@joshplaysdrums2143 fr those one way stairs gave me a whole new perspective on life

1:24 to 1:28 the smoothest piece of a song ive ever heard
I love how Bill’s style refuses to bend to trends. His videos are timeless. If I didn’t check the details, i’d have no idea if this video was 10 days or 10 years old. Love it.
It's things like this that never truly die, because they never base around trends, rather they stick true to the style of a creator.
its likely A.I. from a distant future, seeking perfection
or from the 80s...
Breaking news new song go listen
@@TheSpookyDuke What are you talking about. The 80s ARE 10 years ago. Right?
... Right?
Bill Wurtz animations are very accommodating. Each video presents the subtitles as part of the content so that folks who hate subtitles don't have to admit that they really need them this time.
Less accommodating and more just augmenting. Reading the important words while you hear them connects audio and visual significantly. Seems Bill is the first to think of connecting a music video and a lyric video to create one thing. Everyone thinks they have to be separate but words are visual all the same
"I'm greedy so I'll make more than my fair share of bad choices" is quite a relatable line
Me in every roguelike
Don't read my comment !!!!
I defiantly make more then my fair share of bad choices... not bad enough just yet, but just bad enough to know this
Bill’s finally reached the point where he’s ready to brag about how we’ll “never catch him.” I mean, if he’s living as far ahead as September what chance will we ever have?
@Don't Read My Profile Photo shut up
we never had a chance to begin with
Well, our chances aren't so bad, they're zero. Still more than the chance of me ever getting a girlfriend.
We don't have September. Men, we must end the world before September.
Excuse me, it's William, only friends call him Bill.
I'm joking of course. I am not a friend of Bill.
The unexpected chord changes are what really do it for me with his music. Like at 1:13. Even he was like "whoa" with that one (there's a matching one at 2:25). Or like that one at 1:30. And then 2:42? Totally out of left field. I'm surprised this kind of stuff doesn't get talked about in the comment sections very much. It's what makes these compositions so interesting, since he intersperses them in between the feel-good, standard pop cadences.
If you want some enthusiastic music theory deconstruction of Bill's songs, check out Charles Cornell :)
Yeah, it’s jazz. That’s how jazz works.
@@ferretyluv I'm aware. I play jazz. That's why I like this music. He clearly is familiar with jazz based on how he writes it.
exactly why i absolutely love his music, and why i do music
Locals can't recognise some good Jazz, but at least they still appreciate it by loving his music. We should bring more a Jacob Collier fans here; they will readily fill the comment section with the appropriate and relevant music theory
1:05 Bill Wurtz when he sees a kid's drawing:
"At the end of the trail there's another trail that is longer and goes around 20 more times"
He’s still making content like it’s 2012 and I’m absolutely here for it.
Yes.

I’m really loving this season of multiple Bill Wurtz releases per month. It feels like instead of always following perfectionism to its extremes, he’s giving himself more freedom to just do creative things and enjoy that process.
Yeah, he's really found his footing. When he tried doing a weekly schedule it was too much for him, but the triweekly schedule seems like it's really working.
I’d like to think before he liked the perfectionism, if that’s what it was at all. Maybe he’s just accelerated productivity.
and he's in a lot of it too, which I always enjoy.
It's September Bill, should I still meet you?
1:30 that modulation back to E major was bliss, I think overall this is one of my favourite Bill Wurtz songs yet
Did you sit on your piano for a few minutes to figure that out
The fact that both times he's greedy he's being greedy about conventionally "bad" things is mind melting in the absolute best way. I really really like this
pulitzer prize worthy lyricism all around tbh
@@kingarthur4088 It occurs to me that anyone with $75 for the entry fee could submit his work for consideration for a Pulitzer. I honestly think he stands a good chance of being at least nominated as a finalist for a few of these.
Bill is excellent at writing about bad things.
its hard to do bad things because you want to do good things and whats right
accepting to do bad things is a greedy taking of freedom that doesnt seem earned
but it doesnt seem to negatively impact anything
maybe bad choices are necessary choices
...or i guess thats what its supposed to mean
@@vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 i did a bad thing. And youll wonder what it is. I tell you what i did. I did a bad thing.
IT HAS SO MANY MELODIES. The written section was so cool. I loved every second. Its different- but it kept the same Bill Wurtz style! I tried to add it on spotify but its not there yet!
EPIC PROFILE PICTURE.

The written section was the coolest thing!
I believe the song is on spotify now
Stop using Spotify.
this month I'm doing a challenge called "September" in which I have to go through every day of September
Well that sucks
This might be like the “I might Quit” shenanigans and that’s perfectly fine. Obviously will miss him but with all this content and music he’s put out, it’s fair that he should have a break.
Hopefully see you in September, or earlier, whatever’s closest. ❤️
Earlier is definitely closest.
@@andrewhorton95 “whatever’s closest” is mentioned to when he will be back, not what comes before September. Lol I don’t know when he will be back. But if he isn’t until September then he deserves a nice break. He’s earned it.
@@BRboi777 :P
To anyone reading this, he's still active on his questions page and did say that this song wasn't announcing any projects or a hiatus. He also said that in this song September is a place, not a month, which I found interesting.
@@colevilleproductions that’s very interesting.
bills content reminds me of the early 2000s internet and I am 100% down for it
It’s more like early 2010s but ok
It is more like 2010s
It's more like the time doesn't matter the feeling of joy that you get while watching it is what matters.
While dressing like he’s with Rick Astley
It's an honorable thing that Bill doesn't monetize any of his videos, but I feel like he deserves it. He'd have probably made a million or two, maybe more on his content by now and he's most definitely earned it.
It is nice to see that he has a patreon, as well as merch and a Paypal dono link now.
I stand corrected, thanks @V3rb for the post. I went and checked the Bill Wurtz subreddit and he started monetizing his videos 4 years ago because CZcams wasn't putting his videos on the front page, even when he was #2 trending(because they weren't monetized).
Why doesn’t he monetize?
@@user-tt1zq7ws2e because he thinks ads take away from the experience. he's said it before in a podcast, he wouldn't watch it if it had a ton of ads on it so he doesn't think other people would watch it either.
@@user-tt1zq7ws2e he hates ads, really hates em and doesn't want anyone else to be subjected to em
But how can you know this? I have a CZcams channel where I upload my own music and do not monetize it and there are still ads on these videos without me doing anything!

My husband and I were married in September lol I like this. Your music is exactly how my brain works. I'm constantly singing random things like this.

1:51 This part really touched my heart. Thanks man
Bro is the quirkiest muscician I've ever seen. Every song he makes and puts together is just a jumble of random thoughts out together and he makes it work somehow (Thank you all for the 5th most popular comment, I really appreciate it ❤️)

Further proof that humans can do anything AI can do tbh. AI generated art is a plague that hurts artists :(
AI before AI was cool
I just realized 0:38 to 0:45 is a piano with images as keys and it's playing the song itself... I LOVE IT
1:07 I feel like Bill’s songwriting is amazing because it can be a funny stream of conscience and then change into some lyrics that have a deeper meaning when you think about them more.
That's got me thinking - Bill's music (both in terms of sound and lyrics) is basically several variations on Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads
What is the deeper meaning in the trail lyric? Lmao
@@et4313 Where did you get that from? That’s not the only thing that ends and then gets more complicated. Ski slopes usually have an easy beginning and a harder, more complicated ending, lmao. Also, your career isn’t 20 times longer than your school years, so where is this coming from?

I will never forget that when this song dropped, I was halfway through a story about my character at the time going to rehab in September (in the future). It felt surreal, consciously registering the lyrics, and everything seemed to perfectly (albeit vaguely) fit the narrative of my own story. But then again, that's the beauty of Bill's music in general, no? The unique sense we all make out of it. I am so very glad to have discovered him all those years back, to be a part of this creative journey still, even as just a spectator.
"im greedy so ill make my fair share of bad choices"
inspirational words 😔
The harmony in this one is wild. It’s cool to see him innovate his own style of music while still keeping a large audience
You're thinking about it wrong
I feel like, a few years from now, Bill's going to reveal that all of these songs were actually part of an elaborate ARG that nobody figured out even the first step of.
Beautiful music as always, Bill! I'mma groove to the end of time with these.
I used to think that the music and videos were all an elaborate treasure hunt but if it is, it's way above my ability to decipher
just wait patiently and think carefully and you might just figure out what the darn thing is
While i by no means can begin to say what all of his videos mean, I think I got vague themes from some of them that tell a story.
I believe he made 'at the airport terminal' waiting for a flight. Got some money is about how he became monetized. I did a bad thing makes me think he was reflecting on something he felt guilty on, or he had an accident. There's one that makes it clear he went to school for 3d modeling.

I've just been listening on repeat for days. Your songs and lyrics mean so much to me, they always come out at the right time
Bills music blurs the line between what’s either something heavily saturated with deep metaphors to an attempt by a computer to simulate a song with surface level lyrics and I love it.
god bill you are utterly relentless
your music is a huge inspiration
i know you once said you don't really care for the idea of "artists" and gravitate towards individual songs
but you are one of my favourite songwriters atm. incredibly distinctive and actually good music and your video production is also incredible. can only imagine what your workflow is like when producing this stuff, and how you learnt those skills.
Bill always makes the weirdest and most random videos/songs. But they’re always a joy to watch regardless.
That’s exactly the charm of his videos.
I feel like they are random but somehow they have a story and sometimes we can relate to them

they're a series of abstract concepts

Just mind bending how creative and stylish your music is every single time. You push me as a musician and as a composer and you give me someone to look up to. What incredible genius with such timeless content. Like at around 0:17 you stopped the music on the "e" of 4 and jumped right back in on the "e" of 1 in the next measure and just continued the groove like nothing happened. Also only adding two accents to imply that your accenting the 1 when your really accenting the "and" of one and giving the groove half a beat of space to catch the rhythm again is just so beautifully thought out and inspiring. Honestly I was sure there was an odd time and I took just a few minutes sitting here repeating it over and over to find it just to realize it was an odd placement. Your spacing, timing, and feel for the song are simply immaculate. I wish I could be half as creative ad you and I really love your stuff Bill. Never stop being you please! :)

Keep making these Mr. Wurtz!
You know what I like about his lyrics? They don't always rhyme. You'd think it would feel uncomfortable or awkward for song lyrics to not rhyme - because 90% of the lyrics we usually listen to have rhymes - but Bill Wurtz demonstrates that not rhyming can be fittingly jazzy and cool.
His songs still rhyme actually, like the "if it all goes wrong, move along, sing me a strong song" part, there's 4 whole words in there! It's just that at random moments it unexpectedly un-rhymes which surprise your ears, and in some cases not rhyming fits even better because it's all a big shitpost lol
