how can certain people(especially americans say there are better sports than hockey) no, no matter what these people think there is no sport on earth better than hockey, and this 1972 series is hockey at its greatest,by the way im american but im not like a lot of my fellow countrymen i can see the greatness of the game, and i have for a long time...

I agree Ben, I'm an American From Michigan, though I do have Canadian Blood, I remember That Fall was some of the best hockey I ever saw, the Late 70's Bruins were a great team to watch too.

Brad, I agree, Canadians have the heart, I grew up on the border of Canada and the USA, and I love hockey, I played hockey in the 60's, in Canada and the USA, I remember how much heart the Canadian kids had, there were some kids on our team like myself who would have given an arm and a leg to win but the Majority couldn't match the Canadian kids' spirit, that is why I will always say Canada produces the best players in the world because of their spirit and drive.

No offense meant to any Canadians...but how on earth could Foster Hewitt announce games, year after year, without pronouncing Yvan Cournoyer's name correctly ? Its similar to Bob Prince in Pittsburgh who insisted on calling Roberto Clemente, 'Bob' or 'Bobby', when it irritated Clemente.

That could have easily been a penalty shot. But LaPointe WAS playing the puck, The camera work on that play was crappy. Back in those days, the camera work had this really annoying tactic that whenever the puck got close to the goal they'd switch cameras to a close up on the goalies. Thankfully, this isn't done any more. Very often it was impossible to follow the play when a goal was scored. In the USSR, the soviet cameramen did not do this. This is why you don't see this annoying manoeuvre on that famous goal by Henderson in the 8th game--just like you see when Esposito scores the first goal of this game.

48:12 Frank Mahovlich lost his skate edge and fell without a Russian player hitting him ... and he's incensed by that? Team Canada was outplayed and out-conditioned by Team Russia and TC couldn't handle the embarrassment so they took out their frustration by playing cheap. Slash. Trip. Cross check. Elbow. Cheap shots against a superior team.

@@osimnod Canada won three of four on Soviet ice with Soviet picked refs. In the game they lost in Moscow (game 5) they dominated but faded in the third period. Yes, Canada played rough but they also produced the most beautiful goals of the series (Mahovolich game 2, Henderson game 7 etc.) No doubt the Soviets were in better shape and more skilled, but there's more to hockey than just that--it's a physical game and they couldn't match Canada in front of the net or in the corners. Two great teams, it could have gone either way.
